Hows it going? I need a little help- I have a small-medium coolant leak coming from, what appears to be, in the area above the oil pan- I would say its defly towards the back of the engine(meaning closest to firewall)- I just cant get a clear look to see where exactly it may be coming from- Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone (im sure it has-lol)? Any advice or ideas are greatly and appreciatively accepted. Any idea on how much this may cost to fix? I have a tight income and a baby on the way so extra fundage is not readily available. lol

Best Regards,
Travis Gray

This is correct, there are 2 small hoses that run from the engine to the firewall for the heater core. One runs from the head under the intake manifold the other runs from a long red steel tube that is connected at the back of the water pump and this tube runs all a long the engine then curves behind it.

Getting to these hoses on a 240 is the hard part. it usually results in some minor cuts and scratchs. The hose shouldnt cost more then a few dallars but most of the time auto parts stores have no idea what hose your talking about so bringing it inside to show them and let them find a replacment may be required.

Good luck

I jacked up the car this evening and looked under there with a light- it appears as if the green coolant is leaking out of the vents/grates in the bottom of the transmission- is this possible? It only leaks when the vehicle is running- Any other ideas? I looked up there and didnt see any of the hoses leaking, but it was also dark and i couldnt stare up there for too long without getting coolant all over my face. Im sure its antifreeze- its green and smellls sweet- Any other ideas?

Hi,

First post here. I've seen somewhere over at brickboard.com that there are several "plugs" around the engine that are kind of security vents that are supposed to blow if the coolant starts to freeze. These plugs may fail, and I am sure I read there is such a plug inside the clutch housing in front of the transmission (doubt if there are any vents in the transmission itself...). I can't see any other possibilities if you are certain the coolant originates there. Remember, leaks often appear further back because of air pressure etc when you're driving.

Good luck, and check out the brickboard.

Hi, I have the same problem. What did you need to do to fix the leak? Was it the heater hoses or a freeze plug?
