I am a happy owner of a new 2006 2.4i with 1500 kms on it - great car! The only problem I've had is annoying short bursts of what sounds like a "whirring" noise coming from behind the console when I start the car, then continuing for as long as I drive. Sounds like the electronics to me, maybe connected to the sound system or the climate control system? Anybody had this problem and know what can fix it!?

Is it like the sound it makes when you turn the engine off, if so it'd be the electric assist part of the steering. Not sure on the fix as I haven't had to deal with one yet...

No, it's a kind of "whirring" noise (1-2 seconds long) - like the one my 6-disk cd player at home makes (for a longer period) when it changes to a new cd. It seems to be connected in some way to the operation of the climate fan and/or temperature control, almost as if the system is sending out "messages" to shut something on or off (or to check to find out if it is on or off).
Not sure how else to describe it.
