hello,

Im new to this forum and dont know much about cars, so excuse me if this question is stupid. My battery had died and i purchased a new one. Once i had put it into the car i noticed the trip computer no longer worked. The time reset to 12:00 like expected but i can no loner change the time. Its still illuminated at night but i can no longer monitor gas mileage etc. I looked in the manual but could find no answer. Is there a way to reset it? thanks.

Heeeeeeeh...?
Funny.

Try to disconnect the negative terminal head again, and leave it for 15 minutes. Then reconnect and see if anything is OK...

BTW, when you disconnected the terminal, you didn't mess with the instrument cluster, right? (You can't have done it by mistake as the cluster is within the dashboard....)

Any other messages that appeared in the 'message' area (the LCD area)...?
"DISC" or something?

This may be coincedence also. I have repaired many 850 and 240 odometers that stop, due to a small gear that breaks. This may also be the case with yours.

The small gear is IN the dash instrument panel, itself. To get to it, you'll need to dismantle the dashboard, and disconnect the 2 main cable at the back of the panel, and undo the metal lock at the top of the panel. Remove the panel slowly, and take care not to scratch the surface of the panel.

However, the probability that the tripmeter goes bonkers due to the little gear happening is not a common thing.

You guys are awesome!

I just disconnected the battery - as suggested in this forum - , and voila! It started working. After more than 3 months, my LCD trip computer is back: clock, average speed, outside temperature, etc. You definitely made my weekend.

Thanks guys, you are doing a great job!
