I am seriously considering purchasing a 780 with turbo 4 cylinder. Does anyone have any thoughts???

I would be getting it for a good price. I tried to find a forum for this but there was none. The only thing I found on here was a post by TECH.

"Some call the 780 THE VOLVO NIGHTMARE!!!"

Is it really that bad??

I thought it would be nice considering who developed it.

I used to own one, and have serviced about 5. The engine and transmission are the same Volvo quality. No problems there. However the body parts, light, etc are hard to find and quite expensive. It definately is a nice car and worth having if you take care of it. In my opinion they are the most stylish Volvos made during that era.

My mother used to own one, years ago when they were new.

It was a beautiful car and unique. However, as has been said it's got more than a few parts in it that are somewhat rare and hard to find.

I think it has great potential, if you firmed the stock handling up and did something about the atrocious turbo lag or even swapped the auto box for a manual transmission it could be pretty sporty.

The interior has the usual Volvo issues (brittle plastics mostly) and the wood dash trim on hers cracked quite early on(!)

Nice car to have if you are a wealthy Volvo collector who can restore it to mint condition cost be damned, but I wouldn't want it as a daily driver on-going project car on my budget.

6 cylinder models had the PRV engine I believe.

PRV?

the Puegout/Renault/Volvo produced inline 3.0L??or 2.8L? 6 Cylinder engine. It was made jointly by the 3 companies. The older models of these engines had some issues with oil flow to the head, resulting in poor reliability. Starting with 88? onward Volvo made changes to the engine and it was just as reliable and durable as any other Volvo engine from there onward. engine model # B280
