My 91 940 SE has a problem when braking. The front wheels will shudder just like a rotor is warped, but I put new rotors on last summer and just had them turned recently when installing new pads. I have a very spongy pedal that no amount of bleeding seems to help. I don't know what else to do. Please help if someone knows what else to check and/or replace.

Thanks

I am new to this forum, but I can tell you what I did having the same problem as you described. I went through 3 sets of front end rotors during 2 weeks, 3 sets of soft followed by metalic pads were installed in 3 days sequence, as a result nothing has changed. Then, a few weeks after, I balanced my front wheels, just because I had driven 5,000 miles, not because I felt imbalance when on the road and...... a miracle happened, shuddering disappeared. I could break at various speeds and no shuddering. Well, this state of euphoria lasted about 4,000 miles and gradually shuddering came back to disappear again after front wheels got balanced. Apparently, the front end design makes the system vulnerable to even the slightest imbalance of wheels. This problem is more severe when I drive my 940 with alloy rims. 940 my wife drives, with steel rims, seems to be less vulnerable. I should think that the greater mass of steel rims helps to dampen the vibrations. However, it just my speculation.
