I've looked in the manual and under the hood, and I can't find the dipstick for auto transmission fluid. Does it exist? Where is it? I have no pressing need to get to it, I just wanted to see if there was enough fluid, and if it had gone yucky yet (probably not, I have a 2002 S60 with 46,500 miles).

Help!

Wow, thats bizzare. I looked thru the following sites, and found everything on the auto trans except where to add it...
http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/2002/2...60/02s60_00.htm

And this is usually an excellent resource...

Pentheos,
Im a tech for a local dealer and can help. The dipstick is on the drivers side under the airbox inlet tube. It is very short so it can be hard to see. The top of the stick is yellow. Remember to check the fluid level with the engine running and at operating temperature. Volvo rec. changing the fluid at 60k miles and the transmission takes the volvo sythetic fluid, Which unfortunatly is pretty expensive. You add the fluid right through the dipstick tube, you just need to get a long funnel. hope this helps.

That's such a helpful picture! Why is it that Volvo does not point that dipstick out anywhere in the owners manual. I had to hunt like crazy for it this morning. I think adding fluid to it is going to be tough because of the location.

Long, thin funnel is right.

BTW, I have read on other forums and on the web about Mobil ATF 3309 as a suitable ATF for a car like mine (2004 260 AWD T2.5). I can get a case of 12 for under $60.00.

I would love to top off mine.
