My rear carb spills petrol at a scary rate from the little vent by the fuel line, do any of you know the problem? could it be the fuel pump? i ask that cos the petrol was still pumping out for a few seconds AFTER the engine stopped running, any help guys??

Oh yeh i put my finger over the hole and the motor cut out!

I sure hope you get some good replies to this. I have exactly the same problem, and it's driving me crazy. The float level is correct, the timing and other tuning settings are correct. Everything seems to be fine, but the fuel just keeps pouring out, particularly when the car is cold and/or idling.

the car is of the road at the moment but it seems to be cos i ran low on petrol and picked up some *** in the jet (rear carb), the other thing is i was told that if you have an uprated cam, that can cause it. And i saw something about the fuel pump having a relief valve in it? this can fail and the pump will continue to pump even when the float is trying to shut down.
Its gonna get a new pump and that might be the cure - at least it wont hurt it!

hope you get sorted!

Mine was similar. The car had been sitting for two years, and I just got it going again. Digging a little deeper into the SUs, I found the needle valve on the back carb had green residue built up on it. I cleaned both carbs up, and made sure everything was moving smoothly, and that solved the problem. I also refilled the fuel tank, and added octane booster to dilute the potentially contaminated fuel.
