Has anyone used or tried one? how bad are they for the car if at all?
I have an S40 1.8 xs and was looking to do some mods to it and these im considering.

i was tempted since it's cheap. but if it goes wrong how expensive is the repairs? i think you get what you pay for. i'd only fit one if i understood what it did and why exactly.

Don't touch it mate - it might look cheap, but actually it's just a resistor in a box - about 30p worth in parts!

It unsubtley tricks the computer into thinking the engine is cold even when it is not, therefore adding more fuel to the mixture. This can cause problems with over fueling etc, plus i've heard it can wash oil off the bores leaving them unlubricated :o

Iv upgraded the spark plugs (champion eon 2), got a performance air filter, used gtx magnatech oil, used Waynes injector cleaner and have been using optimax for the last three months, its made a bit of difference but im looking for more

Iv heard upgrading the HT leads to Magnacor performance make a hell of a difference but they dont manufacture for volvo s40's past 1999 reg so thats out!

im not really looking to do anything major to the engine but it might be the only way, if not im going to sell up and buy a 2 liter turbo s40 next year!
