Does anyone else have this problem with their older Volvos? When you open the air vents or change the air direction, little flecks of black, oily (?) stuff will fly out...sometimes on me, sometimes marks up the lower windshield? I've asked mechancis about it and they said something about deteriorating foam???? But then added that you'd have to tear the whole dash apart to fix the problem. Any ideas or solutions. It only seems to do it when I "change" the air flow or first turn the A/C on after a lull??? Thanks

I agree with the post above. A full blast while playing with the vents can get a ton of that stuff out. You might also want to 'pop' out the vents (you can do this by prying (*gently*) out a small tab located inside the vent while pulling it out. Also using a vacuum cleaner with the small narrow attachment might help loosed and stuff that is clinging on.

Thanks for the input. I vacumed the vents thoroughly and then created a filter out of "grip rite" that I duct taped over the vents. It's not pretty, but works and no more surprises!
