probably something like 8-10 psi. nothing to sneeze at. it was simply a nice turbo for a nice engine setup.

depends on your wastegate. If you have the LPT then its probably 4-7psi and if you have the full HPT its most likely 9-13psi.

you cant by the wastegate alone. the best way would to be to purchase a boost pressure gauge, and attach it to one of the outlets on you inlet manifold. This is an absolutel MUST if you are considering any form of turbo tuning.

Matt

ps you can pick them up on ebay for cheap if you dont mind the wait for delivery.

i already have a boost gauge installed.... im just wanting to know what psi it should be boosting before i actually run the car.... i guess ill just have to try it out.... it i start boosting more than 7 or so pounds ill know its the hpt and back off

thanks

(and no offense but this isnt the first car ive made a custom turbo setup for, ive got everything settled aside from what kind of psi this thing should be making, i dont really wanna run any more than 8psi on the car its installed on atm)

ok thats fair. usually for an older turbo it will be +/- .5 psi ish i would say.

mind me asking why will you back off if it goes more than 8 psi on the hpt?

im only looking to boost 8psi on this engine atm to break it in and then swap out to a larger turbo later... i dont wanna push 12 or 13psi on it yet...

if it does end up being that i can just live with it since it is such a small turbo anyways 13psi wont be that bad

oh right, so your doing a turbo conversion project then ... if so, be careful even with 8 psi, you will need to lower the compression ration of the engine. get your cylinder head milled or use pistons from a turbo model. the ratio of a NA engine is far too high if your going to be turbo'ing it, you will blow it up!

the little mitsu turbo is good for about 18ish psi IMO.

just be careful. fit a bleed valve to the wastegate actuator pipe which comes off the compressor housing, and a boost gauge. that will help you no end. personally with a turbo conversion, i would start off running really light pressure, around 4psi just to check the system. we dont wanna have melted pistons now!
