Hi all, My rear defogger in my '85 240 doesn't work. The switch light comes on and I have power at the connectors at the rear window. The defogging grid seems in perfect condition with no scratches or gaps. Where the connectors meet the grid is rusted a bit and my guess is that they're not making connection. Is there a way to pull these away to clean them? Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

try switch contact cleaner, get it from any store that does electrical stuff like maplins if you have them in your town.but it sounds like your relay has failed, just google relays for your car.

Sounds like corroded connectors - try to pull the connectors, and clean the blades on the window and the connector itself, then plug back in. If you have an ohm-meter you can measure from the blades on the window to the conductive wire on the window to see if you have an open circuit. And if you do find a gap you ca buy some conductive paint and dab on the gap to restore the integrity.

Thanks, I'll try cleaning the connectors but since I am getting power at the connectors, doesn't that mean the relay is working?

how many volts are you getting at the connections, as you can get power, as the relay heats up it then fails, so getting power at the start , then later no power, as the solder cracks open with the heat, so power at the start does not mean the relay is not failing.
