I have a 1990 Volvo 240 DL

The brake lights will not come on whether the lights are on or not. When I turn on the headlights the tail light part comes on. However, when I push the brake pedal the brake light part does not engage.

I have checked the fuses and replaced new brake/tail light bulbs. I have no issue when any of my other lights.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

How do you check the brake light switch?

Run a wire to the leads on the switch. If your brake lights come on, it is not the relay.

One question; do you have the sedan or wagon? With the wagon (245), the wires run through the hinges for the rear hatch. they can get pinched and break over time, causing the same problem. If you have the sedan (244), inspect the film circuit boards and make sure they arent cooked or corroded.
