I have a 1990 240DL, Today when I started the car and the seat belt warning stopped there was a beep the I can't figure out what it is warning me about. It seams to start when I turn the ignition switch to the run position. It is most annoying. Can anyone please help and tell me what it is warning me about.

Thanks,

Bill Manley

Is it the same chime as the seat belt reminder?

I have a poor ground in my steering column that causes my seat belt chime to pester me at random.

It is not the same as the seat belt chime. It does start when the seat belt chime starts, however when the seat belt chime stops the shorter beep continues. It does not stop until I shut off the engine. It seems to be a warning beep of some sort but I have no warning lights and every thing seems to be working fine on the car.

it may be a warning for your doors open, check the small push in switches in each door check for rust and try clean them.

I will check the tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem. Thank you very much.

I had a similar problem the other day. The "beep" in my case sounded a little bit lower in pitch than the "ding-ding-ding" chime for the seat-belt or door (more like quick bursts from a wimpy horn), though it repeated about the same speed as the chime. It beeped the whole time that the ignition key was in position II (maybe also I -- I don't recall). In my case it turned out to be a fuse that I had removed and didn't re-seat properly. So maybe it's a warning to check fuses.
