Ok so I just bought a 1990 Turbo 740 Wagon. I thought it would be a great idea to change the oil as I do on every "new" vehicle to me. I drained the oil, took the filter off, put the drain plug back in, screwed the new filter on and filled it with oil, done, right? After I took the drain pan back to the garage I found the washer to the drain plug..... **** mistake. Now I have to drain the oil, put the washer back on the plug and put the plug back in. Does anyone know what the capacity is of the oil without the filter?? I know it is 4 quarts with but I will not be taking the filter off.

Thanks

you don't need to drain it,take off the plug, stick your finger in the hole, place the washer on the plug, now finger out and the plug in, will lose small amount of oil doing this, err engine cold, do not do this is engine is hot.

That's pretty much what I ended up doing and it worked out alright. I didn't lose too much oil so it worked out well.
