Good evening everyone, I have a 2004 C70 Convertable Turbo with a transmission problem. Here are the symptoms. when I first crank the car in the morning and take off its fine and within about 10 miles the Transmission starts to have a shifting problem from first to second but once I get over about 20 MPH its seems to be ok. well when I start slowing down it has a hard down shifting but this only happens when the car is warm or hot. However, when I am on the Interstate I have no problems. Took it to a Volvo Dealer and they said a transmission, but why does it only do it when its hot and not cold. I know the Volvo C70 has a shift soleniod around transmission and a few other electical components. Can someone please help me pinpoint this problem before it costs me a arm and a leg.

what colour is your transmission fluid, pull up your dip stick and check it,dirty fluid can affect the gearbox as valves inside it can stick, but a low level of fluid can do the same so check colour and fluid level, google changing transmission fluid on your volvo for details.

same as the above then check your fluid and the fluid level, google how to do a fluid flush for your gearbox.

I have exact same problem with my 2004 C70 with 92,000 miles. The transmission light (the arrow on dash) was flashing and check engine light was on. Took to dealer today, their only recommendation was a new Trans @ $5,800. They said a hard fault was showing on the torque converter, whatever that means. I had read on a different board to run a Trans conditioner in it, then do a flush. I told them to do that, will see on Friday how that went and will post again. Would appreciate any insight.

strange thing to say hard fault in the torque converter, it contains a lot of your fluid , which then goes to the brake bands in your gearbox, if it has dirty fluid in there, going to your gearbox that fluid will then stick your valves in the gearbox, that is why they must change the fluid.
