Hi, Thanks for your suggestions. My son bought a 2006 s60 t5 and has xexon headlights that need replacement. Is it possible to switch to a lower cost headlight? Is it something that we might be able to do with moderate mechanical ability? Thanks for your help. Dave

I presume you mean standard H7 type bulbs rather than HID's? (I can't imagine why anyone would want to change from HID's back to halogen - most would like to do the opposite)

For H7's there are a host of manufacturers out there with a whole range of different bulbs.

However I can't think why you would want to use cheaper bulbs that would produce significantly less light on the road.

Buying bulbs online can save a small fortune - even from the likes of ebay.
I have been using either Osram Nightbreaker Plus or Philips X-treme power and usualy pick them up from between £12 - £17 a pair.

Thet are fairly easy to change although access is a little tight, after you've changed them once it gets easier the next time.

Thanks for your message - I have an older S60 so I don't know when HID type headlamps became an option or were fitted as standard but it sounds as though he may have this type of headlamps.
Someone else may know if a 2006 model has HID's fitted for sure.

I don't know much about them really apart from they are really bright, but I have a feeling that although they are expensive to replace - they last a long time (rather like a standard bulb compared to a LED)

Whereas it not impossible to change H7 bulbs every six months if that.

I have had my Volvo for around six years now and I would say it's not really been any more expensive to run or maintain than my previous cars (well until this year where it has all gone wrong, but that's more likely down to age than anything else)
