I have done by due diligence searching the forums, but I couldnt find what I am hoping is the answer I am looking for!

My 2009 seems to have a very basic tech setup. It has Bluetooth and USB connections, but no entertainment screen (I think it is the Sensus system). It doesnt appear possible to stream music through the Bluetooth system....is this correct?

I have connected my iPhone4 via USB to play music, but it just shuffles aimlessly, I have no control over it.

Is there any work around/hack to get the system to play my music wirelessly?

Thanks

XCRio - I'm working on this exact issue, but so far no luck. We have a 2011 XC90 with the same audio setup you described. The best I've come up with is I've replaced the 12V outlet on the dash with a USB plug that has an extension that I ran hidden behind the dash, to the glove box and plugged into the USB port there. It's not wireless but it does allow us to plug up our iPhones directly into the dash console and play our music/spotify/pandora easily.

I did try a Bluetooth USB adapter plugged into the USB port in the glovebox, but that didn't work. I'm told that there may be a more updated version of the same device I tried that may work, but I've yet to locate one. I'm skeptical though.

I don't believe the senses system was added till early 2012, at least in North America.

Has anyone used these OEM style in dash systems? I have seen a few, and I had a similar Chinese setup in my Rav4, not perfect, but fills the black hole!

This is my understanding as well. It seems odd that the phone will work with bluetooth, but not music.

I'm disappointed with my 2010 XC60 and it's stereo system. I can connect my ipod or Blackberry through the USB and AUX jack but not through bluetooth although the phone functions perfectly. There's no display of the track being played (except to say TRACK 1, etc) and I didn't realize until recently that that thing that looks like a base boost on top of the display pod is a fake. It looks like a speaker but it's not. Even the Volvo service tech thought it was until he put his ear to it. That's really disappointing considering every other vehicle in this class has that center speaker.

I'm trying to figure out a way to actually have a speaker installed there but haven't done it yet. If anyone knows anything about this, let us know.

I plugged a Blackberry Gateway Bluetooth adapter into the aux input on my 2010 XC60, and it streams music from my iPhone perfectly. Here is a link. Hope this helps!
