I took this picture (attached) underneath my 2004 XC90 2.5T after removing the plastic skid plate. Since the color of the fluid is red, I assume this is a transmission leak. Can someone help me to identify the source of the leak and how to fix it?

Thanks.

can be power steering fluid, or transmission fluid ,try clean it first then look out for leaks with a torch.

Thanks for the reply, but my power steering fluid color is green (purchased from Volvo dealership), not red. Per the warnings I've read on this site and others, I've been topping off my power steering reservoir with Volvo's power steering fluid rather than ATF. Apparently, owner manuals pre-2005 incorrectly state to use ATF for power steering.

I will wipe off the fluid and periodically check for leaks -- I'm afraid it could be coming from the right axle seal. If so, a procedure for seal replacement would be nice to find.

Also, I'm worried about the transmission fluid level, but I'm unable to find a transmission dipstick. Is there one in this model (2004 XC90 2.5T)?

Thanks.
