Greetings, did a search and could not find any information on this. Has anyone tried to retrofit seatbelts or a child seat into the rear seat area of the 1800s? I am thinking it should be possible and safe with the new side anchor type child seats, but if someone has already invented the wheel...

i drilled a hole in the floor and mounted the latch throw a bracing stut
obviously you need to have a good look at you car and see were the best place is to mount

I think you might need to go DIY for this one. It's a rare car and you would find less options for this.

Hello. Child's car seat designer here. drmadcat is correct in that the anchors in cars became mandatory (in 2002). They are called LATCH (lower anchors and tethers for children). Cars sold with LATCH installed, obviously are mounted at a location where the structure can withstand the loads seen with a car seat installed and in a configuration that meets the stadard; size, distance apart, etc. I don't know what you would be mounting the anchors to in your vehicle, but you are taking a risk because that location was not intended for that purpose.

If the location is sutable for retro fitting a seat belt, it would be sutable for LATCH as the loads would be less than those from an adult. BTW, LATCH is a combination of both the lower anchors (what you are thinking about) and the top tether.

Hope this helps.
