I have a `98 S70 GLT with standard size 195/60/15 tires on them, and will need to replace them soon. Would a different size tire improve handling? Would like to keep original rims if possible. Appreciate your thoughts?

Does any one know of a good source for computer modifications. I have seen some computer mods with a small Hp gain. I am sure that there can be some significant hp gains with the right computer modification. Also, I have an automatic, has any one seen computer mods changing the torque limiting.

I wanted to share a solution to a some bird dropping damage which occured to my '05 S60 last week.

The residue sat on the hood of the car no more than 3 hours, yet when I cleaned it off I found the acid had etched the clear coat. I rubbed some polishing compound onto the stain but when it made little impact I stopped and drove over to the local Volvo dealer, Best Volvo (fine dealership, by the way). Within 15 minutes they brought the car out with no trace of damage.

The solution: baking soda and water! Quite a relief. The Volvo manual refers to bird dropping damage as "permanent". Plenty of internet sites talk about polishing deeply into the clear / paint. Nowhere have I seen mention of baking soda.

I have to add that in 30+ years of driving all sorts of cars I had never seen such a reaction with the paint either.

I'm an Audi allroad owner. Like the car but a little boring. Was thinking of a new S4 but the new body is just plain ugly. Like the look of the S60 R -- havent driven one. Any big probs I should know about? reliability? Engines blowing up? Transmission falling out? Brakes shuddering? Thanks.

My volvo is four years old. Just bought it. It is overheating intermittently and I suspect it is the radiator sender. Anyone out there help with this problem. Perhaps it is a common problem with the volvos???

I am in the process of waiting for a 2001 S60 to become available and the owner has a Vancouver CD for the Navigation System and that's it. Where do I get other cities?

I'm new to the forum, but what caught my attention to research a little more about volvo's was this particular one. I searched through the forums a bit and couldn't find any posts regarding the Evolve Volvo's. hi, im new to this forums...and was wondering if anyone here has a S60R, if so can you please let me konw what you like about it and what you don't? and also if you konw when the next bodystyle is coming out, i am very intrested in buying one but don't konw alot about them!

Most cars have neat little things that ya may never know about. I just bought a 01 S60 T5, got a great deal on her, and she is loaded, but no owners manual... So I had to guess a few things, like how to set the seats, and radio presets....

But what else can ya tell me about the car I may not know? Like what is the deal with the trunk floor, that stands up? Just to divide it?

any info is appreciated!

Service guy who checked out the 2002 S60 I am probably going to buy said it needed front brake pads and the rotors turned. Neighbor, who has owned Saab's and Volvo's (has one of each now) said that I should never turn the rotors on a Volvo, because they are thinner and might warp and that I should use Volvo brake pads because other pads, metallic, will cause brake squeal. Anyone ever had any problems with this? If so I will probably just order some Volvo pads off the net and have them installed.

My S60 2.4T is reaching its 4year/50k factory warrenty. We are offered at about $2500 to purchase extended warrenty to 85k/3years ($100 deductibl). I am not sure if this worthwhile.

How much do you guys spend for repairs once the car is out of warrenty? Any recommendation is appreicated.

If not going for volvo extended warrenty, do you have any recommendation on 3rd party warrenty?

Just got my first ever volvo car 4mths ago and the power of T5 is awesome.

However I'm bit disappointed with the quality of leather of the backseats. They seems rough and not as smooth as those at the front. When I asked the dealer he can't explain to me what type of leather they are and why are they different in quality.

Is this normal?

Hi there..anyone heard that the new v8 engine found in the xc90 will be used in the s60r?

anyone know if you can replace the front black plastic bumper protector? My left one get scuffed up when I accidentally parked too close to a concrete support in a parking garage. It looks like there are 3 pieces in the front: left, center and right.

I just test drove a S60AWD and S80AWD yesterday. Volvo is offering "Free AWD" with a value of $1700; for the Edmunds true value pricing this would drop the car price to about 32k with the Premium package, upgraded HU-850 radio, climate package and convenience package. Did not test drive the BMW 325xi yet but most dealers are out of the 2005's and would have to wait until May for 2006.

How do the two compare, the S60AWD vs the BMW? How is the price of 32k?

Well at first I was very disapointed in this car but you all suggested I give it some time. so here I am after 1 year and I like this car even less.

My fault for not taking a test drive though!!!!

I am being honest and not treolling the forum so please take this as a very honest review.

I have about 18,000 km on it.

It is by far the worst designed car in this price range. I am so upset I bought this car. I never test drove it so I deserve what I got.

Just a few of my issues

1) The worst turning radius of any car I have ever driven

2) Zero rear seat legroom. I mean zero!!!!!

3) If you are going to make a key the size of a cell phone, have it insert into the dash or the console. My knee keeps hitting it where it now is.

4) More wind whistles and squeeks that a entry level Kia

5) The door locks are beyond stupid. There is a single button that does not rock back and forth. Lets say you use your key fob to open the driver door to get in. It opens just the driver door. 2 hits open all doors but normally I just open the driver door. Now lets say I stop to give someone a lift. Because of the design of the locks I must first press the button to lock all the doors then hit it again to unlock them. WTF!!!

6) NO POWER TRUNK RELEASE!!!!!!

7) No light in the engine compartment.

8) Now they design this thing with fold down rear seats. Means they believe folks will be carring things in the back. Well the fools forgot to have any place to hook a tie down or bungie cord in the trunk lid????

9) They offer a 17" wheel option which I took. Problem is, they don't fit. When cornering even slightly aggressive the front wheels rub. Even my dealer laughed about the number of complaints they get on this one.

10) The heated seats just barely get warm

11) The paint on the leather of the drivers seat has already worn through in 18,000 km

12) This car does not like the wind at all. Very unstable.

13) Useless cup holders.

14) You need an engineering degree to figure out the HVAC

15) They have this stupid feature where the doors lock themselves after a certain time. Wish I had known befor I threw my keys, wallet and cell phone on the front seat while chatting with a friend I met in the parking lot.

I should have purchasd another MB 4matic C240. My wife has one and thought it would look dumb to both be driving the same car.

On the good side it has the bast damn seats I have ever sat in an the fuel economy is excellent.

Pulled my '01 S60 out of the garage today...found two drops of oil on the floor. After checking things out, there is some oil on the rear facing side of the oil pan. Not a whole bunch, but I can tell that there is some oil back there. I had the oil changed about 2300 miles ago. They did not put on a new drain plug 'O' ring. Could this be the culprit?

At present I'm driving a '97 mercedes c180 and the problems I've had with the electronic auto transmission is nobodies business, this thing needs to go up in a puff of smoke!!!!
I'm seriously considering an s60 2.0t auto and need a bit of advise.
Anyone out there had any serious problems with one? Cos if I get another car with problems like the one i have then i'll go nuts. I've read some reviews and they seem good but I can't find anything that suggests it has big issues,maybe they haven't, just need reassuring I suppose.
Found an '02 2.0t se auto for £9,995.00, with 31k on the clock- Good or Bad?

I drive a Volvo 2004 S60. My old Nissan Infiniti beats it hands down in the area of airconditioning. I had to turn to manual on the aircon just to cope with the heat. I live in the tropics and if the aircon system is not up to par, you better be ready to sweat it out. Does anyone have a similar problem. Would appreciate comments or suggestions.

Hi, Need some help with my 2001 S60 T5. I just bought my S60 T5 (used), but during the inspection, we found that there was a leak coming from the Fuel Tank sender unit. The 2nd Hand dealer got the new original part to replace, but he got it done at his own workshop. The Car works great when there is more that a quarter tank of petrol, but when the fuel tank approaches the red section of the fuel guage, before the petrol reminder light comes on, the car would stall because it is unable to suck up the fuel form the petrol tank. I have confirmed that there was petrol in the car as when I got the car to the petrol station, it could only take about 55L of petrol, it should have taken 70L if I had a faulty guage and the tank was empty.

I have taken the car back to the workshop that installed the sender unit(comes with the fuel pump and a container to collect the petrol for the pump) thinking that it was installed too high, but when the guy there removed the sender unit and showed it to me, it was obvious that the hight in which the fuel pump was installed was not adjustable. There was however the petrol return line that ran from the fuel pump's container to a left side of the car's petrol tank which was the lowest part of the fuel tank, I suspect that the problem is probably in that return line as it is also used to carry fuel to the petrol pump's container. I understand that there is another fuel guage reader on the other side of the tank and I also notice that there was some kind of attachment in the middle of the return line that made a loop from the fuel pump container to that attachment and back to the fuel pump container where it has an open end that feeds fuel into the fuel pump container.

Really appreciate if anyone who know how the fuel tank system works can point me to the right direction to get my problem fix. Thanks heaps.

I am about to get a 2005 Volvo within the next month, I like better the looks of the S40 but obviously the S60 is one step above.
Can any one tell me which car is better knowing that the S40 has improvements on design and features.
What are the pros and cons of one and other?

Man... no matter how well you take care of your car there is always someone out there to put a ding in it. I just spotted a small one on the passenger side and I'm wondering if those "Do it yourself Ding Kits" really work. I want to try it first before I tackle the problem from the inside.

I am installing a set of 17's on my 02 s40 and the rims wont go flush because of that what i think is a screw to hold the rim on while scewing the lugs, anyway is ok to remove them? my aftermarket wheels dont have any holes to compensate the screw. I doest look like it holds anything.

Hi All, new to the board.

I currently have 2 ECM codes on my 2001 S60 2.4T. P4010 and P4338. I clear the codes but they re-appear a couple of weeks later. Two evap valves were recommended for replacement but I cannot find where the valves are located. One of them is a Shut-Off valve and the other is an evap control valve. I bought the cheaper one first and I'll try replacing it first. Its quite small and has what looks like an inlet and an outlet in an L configuration and has an electrical connector. Anyone know where these valves are located? I tried looking for the evap cannister but I cannot see that either.

Just got the new 2005 S60 Facelift. When driving along at low speed I here a rattle sound coming from the engine while on uneven roads. This is even more noticable when changing gears. The car has the 17 inch rims on it and find the drivers front suspensions also knocks more than the the passenger side. Any ideas please

I am off to france soon, and I usually blank off the headlights with black masking tape ( the ones I have bought have always been expensive and difficult to remove) I have had a look in the handbook but cannot identify the fuse to remove to lose the day lights as you could on my old 240's. Is this possible, thanks...

I really like the car but didn't like the Pirelli's on the 17 wheels, which are hard to keep clean as well. Snow performance is lousy. Also, I have a few pothole marks on the wheels. I'm considering changing to new rims and H-rated all season tires 215/55-16 (which will give zero speedometer effect) which should improve snow handling, better ride but probably somewhat reduced handling. This is a trade-off I'm willing to make but wanted the thoughts of anyone else who had ever "minus" sized tires. My wife has a v70 2.4T and every time I drive it in snow it's better and I even find the handling quite good and the ride is much smoother with the 16 inch tires.

Would appreciate any thoughts or comments.

I have a 2003 Volvo S60 2.4 and when you start it up and then turn it off, 3-5 minutes later it will not start at all. you have to wait around 15-20 minutes before it will start back up. The service people said it was a gear position sensor, which it wasn't!

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

I had a tag light out and have replaced but the message center is still lit with the position light message. How do I reset it?

Does anybody else that owns an '04 2.5T hear a winding/chime noise coming from the engine? You can only hear it at idle from inside the car. The engine has to be at its normal operating temperature with the rpm at 650-700. It's pretty subtle but it's annoying the crap out of me!! It sounds like a belt or something that's turning. The noise is always present and it has a consistent rhythm of in and out. The dealership is telling me that all of the '04's have this problem, but that unfortunately they cannot locate the source of the noise. In fact, they tested several 02 and 03 models and they didn't have the same problem. Anyone??

I have purchased a complete set of aftermarket crossdrilled brake rotors (KVR) for my 2004 S60 2.5T AWD

The front rotors are ventilated (like the OEM rotors) but to my surprise there is no distinction between the LEFT and RIGHT side. The two front rotors are absolutely identical which means that angled fan blades are turning forward on one side and backwards on the other.

The original Volvo parts (274170) also make no distinction between left and right! I am not a brake rotor expert but this simply makes no sense at all. There should be a left and right rotor so that the rotors are properly ventilated.

I am told that ZIMMERMANN makes the brake rotors for VOLVO but they claim that they are just following Volvo orders.

Has anyone heard of this "problem"?

I am convinced that there should be distinctive LEFT and RIGHT front rotors and that someone at Volvo screwed up! Volvo should issue a recall to fix this problem.

Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

I am thinking of uprgrading from 15 to 17 wheels. I just want to know will these wheels with 205/45/17 fit on a 02 s60. How much will it effect the ride and in the snow. Does is screw up the odometer? Any feed back would be great.

Hi there, I'm on the verge of placing my order for a brand spanking S60 but can't commit to which engine to go for, the 2.0T or D5. I asked over on another forum and each has it's advocates but no-one seems to have decent experience of both.

Performance is important as I trave a lot of A roads so have to take my overtaking opportunities as they come up, quickly. Also, although I do a fair number of miles per year (approx 25K), the savings with the diesel isn't particularly significant... well, on paper at least!

Any help would be appreciated, I'm already swaying towards D5 but only because I should be able to go longer (not necessarily farther) between fill-ups.

my volvo s60, is a good car until you get inside. the dashdoard is loose, it rattles as does the centre console, the roof, the doors and the glovebox...it is hopeless i have had replacement interior door skins, gloxboxes etc etc, with little or no success..

trying to get a sensible answer from the customer service people is a joke, i have sent them research i have gained from the internet, where peope are saying the same. they do not want to know...say they have done all they can...ooh and the tyres give me 7 to 8000 miles on the front driving carefully, great!

please advise if you know of more people saying the same,

I just picked up a 2002 s60 awd on Friday. I went to pick up my best friend for a drive. I had the doors locked, so when he approched the car I leaned over and pulled the door handle from the inside to let him in. I instantly heard a pop, but the doorlock button did not pop up. I pulled up the button and he was able to open the door. Unfortunately, the interior door handle no longer disengages the door latch and he had to roll down the window to open the door with the exterior handle. Please tell me that this is repairable by me, inexpensive to have repaired, or a recall item.
