I own a 2004 Volvo S60 and installed a Clarion VRX630 stereo and DVD player almost a year ago. Recently I've had computer module failures that have caused soooo much coding on my car the brake, transmission, main and etc modules fail on my car. The dealership is blaming the aftermarket equipment and insisted the Volvo due to the relationship the modules have with communication was the primary reason the computer modules were failing. I will admin since the installation of the stock stereo the car is running fine, just a couple of days, but would like to hear if this has happen to anyone else recently. The aftermarket stereo was installed by a professional and both unit were working during the failures. Is there a grounding issue with aftermarket equipment or something that i missed? I have a problem in my 2005 S60 T5 with 4C, I had installed the "Sport lowering springs for S60" from Volvo local dealer, They tell me the package will "Compatible" with S60 T5 4C system. But even in 4C Sport mode, It can not control the Sport lowering springs's Resilience strength. It will let my car running on road as the same with "driving a Boat" especially running in high speed. Is there any one can give some suggestions to help me solve this problem.

it has been long time but I did not care that much.
when I start the engine service light coming up and it will turn off after 2 min. I already change all filters but it still doing same thing.

Car has 48K+ on it. Looked into the Volvo Extended Warranty. To cover it for another 3yrs./50K would be $2,400 and change. We do plan on keeping the car for a long time. Therefore my question is, should we purchase the extended warranty or take our chances?

My 2002 has the black rub strip moulding going down the side of the body and around the bumpers. I've seen other S60's with a color matched strip, white in my case. Does anyone know where these can be purchased, other than from the dealer, who we KNOW always has the best prices on these items (snicker, snicker) ? I've looked on a lot of web sites and haven't seen these yet.

I keep seeing these Cold Air Intake Mods (on E-bay), which from what I can read is a resistor that piggy backs onto one of the sensors and tells the ECU that the air coming in is cold air which then adjusts fuel air mixture and is supposed to increase the horsepower and torque of the engine. Has anyone ever used any of these, and if so, what were your experiences? They sell pretty cheap so I wouldn't be wasting a lot of money on them, but then again I don't want to fry my ECU. Any input welcome.

On the '05 S60 2.5T AWD (USA) models, are the seats all leather or a combination of leather and "leatherette?" There seems to be a difference on the smoothness of the leather between the center, where your body touches the seating surface and the sides & back. Or could it just be different grades of leather used. Same question for the trim on the doors.

the air con in my car works, but im sure it should be a tinsy' bit colder..... does this mean it needs re gassing ? its an 02 plate S60 2.0T........
can anyone offer a rough guess at the cost of such a job at a garage ?
what type of gas is it ?
is it a job i could do myself ?

Anyone else with an S60(T5) ever hear a knocking noise when accelerating from idle? It sounds like when you knock on a wooden table or door! And I can actually feel it when it happens! The dealership said it is 95% in the suspension( they have heard of problems with a suspension componet becoming loose and banging against surrounding objects during acceleration and causing that knocking noise! Just wondering if anyone else had ever had or heard this noise before!

Am considering the facelifted 2005 Volvo S60 2.0T. Have the "gotchas" in earlier versions of the S60 been rectified in the 2005 edition? Would appreciate insights from those who have bought or tested it out. Thanks!

To continue with my barrage of questions.... I've pretty much settled on 18x8 moda R6 wheels for my '01 s60 and now am trying to match up the tires.... Over on tirerack these seem to be getting pretty good reviews and they aren't too expensive. I'm puzzled with people saying they are very hard to balance (????) but other than that most seem to be satisfied. Has anyone had any experience with these or any other suggestions within a similar price range ($136/each)? I don't intend to drive these in the winter, as Ill keep the michelins that are currently on there for winter driving.

Just wondering if the tires needed for 18 inch wheels cause problems for the s60...... Im looking at maybe purchasing 18 inchers but am not going to do so if the tires rub the wheel wells every time I turn (among other potentially more serious problems). Anyone have experience with this??

Is anyone else having some trouble finding a good selection of wheels for the S60? I assume it is because the 5X108 bolt pattern isn't very common! Anyone know of a site where they have a decent variety of aftermarket wheels for the S60? Thanks!

I jsut got an hks type-0 turbo timer and i dont know how to install. can any one tell me or give me a link to where some one has done this. I also got the universal turbo timer harness jsut in case. Thanks in advance for all your help with this matter.

just got an '02 S60 2.4T and love it dearly. just wondering what kinds of performance mods i could add.....that don't void the nice long warranty if possible?

i saw the k&n drop in filter, does this actually give any gain in power? the 2.4T is 197hp stock, i was hoping to bring it up to 200-215. thanks!

Have an 05 S60 with Thor 17" aluminum wheels and the break dust collection was horrible. Wash the car, drive 10 miles and the wheels were almost ready to wash again. Bought two sets of "Kleen Wheels" P/N 1767 brake dust covers from an internet parts store. When delivered, they fit perfectly and the brake dust problem went away. Thought I'd pass it on as this is one of my first favorable posts regarding the Volvo S60 - the car as a whole has been very disappointing.

I did however, stumble across another lack of human engineering when I installed the dust shields. That is the wheel lugs are screws not the normal studs. Getting the wheels back on in my garage was not too much of a problem, but I'd sure hate to have to change a tire out on the road at night. Went to an auto parts store today and bought a couple of studs that I could fit into the lug bolt holes to slide the wheel on, then it was a piece of cake to put in the screws, then take out the studs and put them in the spare tire location.

When the lights turned green last night, my 3 year old S60 simply refused to move. Just like that it just refused to budge. Revved the engine up to around 5000 before it finally managed to creep out of the junction. Eventuallly even the high revs would not coax any propusion. I then had the car towed back to a service station nearby. The mechanic who attended to the car the next morning had no problem with the car at all. He took the car out for a test drive - and it drove beautifully. Suggested that it was problably an intermittent electronic problem which should be referred to the Volvo agent.

I then drove the car off - and guess what - the same problem recurred - car refused to move - except very slowly for a short distance at high revs. The dashboard computer indicated a Transmission Problem that had to be attended to urgently. Had it towed back to the Volvo agent this time. The volvo technician (without checking) suggested that it could be a gear box problem - I don't see how this could be a mechanical problem if it happens intermittently.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem.

It's getting close to time to change the cabin air filter in my S60. Only problem...where is it? Do I have to take the glove box out to get to it? Any advice would be much appreciated!

I know I could look this up in my owners manual but it's easier to type it in and let you guys set me straight. I have 2 questions.

1) When my daytime running lamps are on there also seems to be one bulb lit in each of the tail lights. Is this common on the Volvo? I know it isn't on my 96 Chevy Tahoe.

2) When I get out of the car (taking the keys with me), if the air conditioner is left in the on position the fan continues to run. Again, is this common with the Volvo and how long will it run before it shuts off?

My S60 developed a dash rattle on the driver side that appeared to be coming from inside the dash around the side vent. After scratching my head for days, my service advisor at the local dealership showed me that it was actually the clear "pass holder" vibrating against the windshield. If you have a similar annoyance, check this out. The fix is to place a small self-adhesive "bumper" between the windshield and the holder.

Just purchased S60 and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to the best route to go on satellite radio. I understand the dealer can prep the care for Sirius, but I currently have XM.

Anyone installed XM radio on their S60? Ideas? Recommendations??

Just had a talk with a local stereo shop and he mentioned that the Volvo starting in 2004 had installed fibre optic antenna's on the S60, can anyone confirm this? Because of the lack of an adapter, if i install an aftermarket stereo, I will lose my local AM/FM stations due to the lack of an antenna connection!!! Please confirm, dealer wants 893 USD to install Sirius in my Car.....very Sirius dough!

Well, I've been driving my 2001 S60 2.4 for some 6 months, got fixed everything that was broken including suspension works since it has sporty suspension that does not handle bad roads very well and very long (totally invested some 2000 euros). Anyway, lately, when there's finally a quiteness inside the car and nothing rattles, I'm hearing very weird noises coming from engine department - firstly, at 5th gear (manual) driving at 85-90 km/h with 2100-2300 rpm a sudden noisy vibration occurs (sounds lika a war jet plane take-off) and stops as I accelerate more and drive faster, or decrease acceleration and drive slower. Three different service stations have inspected my car incl. Volvo dealership and none of them had even a guess what the hell is that. Oh, yess, I have engine pillows changed, so it might not be a problem.
Secondly, driving slowly at high gears and low revs at 1000 - 1100 rpm and making a sudden acceleration, engine gives out a boiling sound - sounds like between a detonation on old cars and dead exhaust (which is in order). This sound showed up quiet recently, so I'm very concerned about it. I started to wonder - perhaps it's something with engine adjustments, ah?

Hello, I have a non functioning cruise control, i.e. when I press the cruise button the light at the bottom of the speedometer doesn,t even light up. System appears to be dead.Could anyone tell me if there is a fuse or relay that could be at fault.
I also have a warning appearing in the information display that states "ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED". This warning only appears every third start up. Could these 2 faults perhaps be related? Any help would be appreciated.

I've seen other posts about cleaning the throttle body. What steps do I need to take to clean it on my 2002 S60 (non turbo). Is it really a do it yourself job?

Hi, I'm having a problem with the tickover on my s60 2.0t (reg 2000) Essentially it seems to surge between 7k and 9k revs and sometimes appears as though it may stall completely. It is also very difficult to start in the morning as it turns over for a longer than normal amount of time before firing up. I can also detect the surge when travelling at lower speeds. I have had the car connected to a code reader but this failed to show that anything was wrong.
Here's hoping that some of you knowledgable chaps out there might hae come across this problem before.

Hi, I am thinging of buying a used S60 D5. Any advice on what to look out for?

Do 2.4 S60 engines have adjustable tappets or are they hydraulic lifters? My car has a tappet like rattle that on cars of old would just have required adjustment. Noise is not excessive but is audible at tickover. Car is a 2002 bifuel and has covered 80k miles.

I recently moved with my S60 to the south east and I have been using the air conditioning all the time
I have notice the front passanger footwell is full of water about 1 inch. I have removed the cabin air filter and the bottom part was wet. I see one drainage pipe that is connected. are there other drainage pipes that I am missing.

I have a 2001 S60 2.4t - for the past few months, every once in a while the engine revs will surge up & down while idleing either in traffic or at a light - and then stall. It doesn't happen all of the time, though seems to be happening with more regularity lately.

Is this a common problem? Is there a "quick fix", or should I take the car to the dealership?

I am looking for some insight before purchasing our first Volvo. The car I am planning on buying is a 2002 S60T5 with all the bells and whistles. It's a certified used car with only 18000 miles selling for $24K. It's definantly a beautiful car but Im not feeling all warm and fuzzy knowing that it is turbocharged and requires premium gas. (possibly more problems). I have also been reading there had been some recalls on this paticular year and model. Some have to deal with the elctric and some have to deal with a cooling problem. Does anybody have any further info on this?

I have now had my S60 for just over a week. I must say it is the most comfortable cars I have driven. I'm also impressed by the power in the engine and still able to give me almost 30mpg. The biggest problem I have at the moment is getting my other half out of the driving seat. Do you think she will get bored and let me have another drive?

I just saw today that I have some hard water spots on my new car. I think they were there when I bought it but didn't notice 'till today (3 days after buying it). Im sure I can go through the dealership to give it a acid wash but I wanted to see if there is any easy ways I can do it myself. I have only seen it on the windows but Im sure the paint has the spots as well.

Hi everyone, I am new member to this forum and new member to volvo world. I have just purchased 2004 S60 2.4 manuel 4 months ago, i bought it brand new. Last week I just take it to my first service, and tell the service guys that i hear some kind of clicking noise from the engine and i advised them when i hit the clutch the noise disappears, they said they will check on this. While i was waiting service tech come to me and told me that they had to change the whole transmition, i was devistated . I left the service with a loaner because "it was not safe" to drive the car, they told me. Anyway after 3 days they have called me and said they did not have to change the transmisson but they had to replace some parts. i got the car yesterday and i have still same noise coming from the engine. They trying to tell me that the noise is normal. This my first volvo but i don't belive their comment about the noise. Do any one has the same problem?
