I have a 2002 S60 AWD. It did not come with the HomeLink visor (with the garage door opener built-in). I know they can be purchased from the dealer. I'm wondering of my car is pre-wired and all I need to do is install the visor and connect the wiring. Or, is the wiring available and might it need any dealer computer programming?

I currently have a problem with my S60 air-cond and it has been diagnosed as a faulty Magnetic Clutch, which is attached to the compressor (the compressor model is unknown but it looks like a Diesel Kiki type).

Can anyone tell me where I can obtain a spare Magnetic Clutch instead of replacing the whole compressor as recommended by Volvo Malaysia. The compressor is still functioning well and does not need to be replaced.

i wonder if it is normal that when i switch off the AC sometimes it doesn't really switched off... it's still running with a very low air comming out... I mean its actually off but a low air keep comming out and doesnt stop till i switch off the engine.... some times i dont switch it on and suddenly i can feel the air coming out of it while the AC is not switched on and by the way its volvo s60 model 2004

[COLOR=purple] Im sure this is a redundant question- so I apologize...but what is the process for turning off the service engine light. I get my oil changed reguarly- not by volvo though.., my ex bf used to do it...but hence the ex he no longer does.

It seems many of us here have had numerous occassions where the position marker light warning comes up on the message center and none of our lights is burnt out.

I've just learned to live with it. If I'm near the dealer I pop in and they turn it off.


Well----- A new one for you. I was pulling down some Christmas lights this morning and my son was backing the car into the drive. Right hand reverse light and turn signal is burned out or not working.

You guessed it. NO MESSAGE WARNING!!!!!!!!! What a stupid feature. They can't even get this right.

I lost one of my keys...luckily I still have one...but I like to have a spare. I called the dealership and they said it would cost about 200. Is there any alternative to this?

I have heard from numerous sources that installing any aftermarket HID kit that did not already come installed on the newer Volvos(S60/V70R, XC90, S40 T5) will show an error in your dash display. Is there any way around this? i have been told that it is simply an electrical current difference that causes the error because the ECU programed to detect halogen bulbs not xenon bulbs. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi everyone, slight poser with the chariot. When I use the keyfob to lock the car, the doors lock, and then about 2 seconds later, the drivers door pops up again, leaving it unlocked. All the other doors stay locked. Is this a volvo 'steal me' feature or has anyone also had this problem!

My wife and I have both noticed a musty smell inside the cabin when the S60 is first started up, after it has sat in closed detached garage. As far as I can recall the blower is running. It goes away fairly quickly. Are there any ideas what causes this musty smell?

Hello, I'm new to the forum.

Today our "Check Engine" light came on. We have a 2005 S60 with about 6,000 miles. I called the dealer (who did not seem that concerned about it) who could not get us in until Friday, Jan. 13. I know that the gas cap was on tight so that was not the problem. I am worried about this light being on and am not thrilled with having to wait until Jan. 13. Should I just relax about this light being on or should I request getting the car in ASAP?

Hi guys. This is my first "real" post about my dad's car.

Anyway, ever since he bought it my dad has complained about the idle when the car is in gear. It seems a little rough and you can feel it in the seat and steering wheel.
I did a search on this, but found most are saying this is normal??
My dad called the Volvo dealership, and another import car repair shop here in town and they both said they could do very little to help the problem...

So, what causes this rougher idle then? Is it just a characteristic of a 5 cylinder engine? I've been in an Acura Vigor w/ 5 cyl. and the idle in it was fine.

My dad's car has 100,000KM on it. It is a 2003 model 2.4T.

I thought myself Volvo used engine mounts with stiffer compund so the engine doesn't move as much...I know there are members on here that seem to know a lot about these cars, could you help??

Last July I realized that my car was due for a scheduled oil change. I checked the oil and THERE WAS NONE. The dipstick was even scorched a bit. I always have Volvo service my car at regular intervals.

Took the car to the dealership and they seemed uninterested in the fact there might be a problem and they even initially accussed me of not having the car serviced according to schedule.

All through this time the car seemed to run fine. Well 2000 miles later (I don't drive much) I checked the oil and it was down 3 quarts.

There is never any smoke, no leaks in my garage and the car runs great!

Any ideas? I have an extended warranty with Volvo and I plan on taking it there tomorrow but they will blow me off as a dumd woman. The last guy when I picked my car up before told me the oil 'must have just gone to somewhere else in the engine'.

There is a rattle when I go over bumps from n/s front but i cant find it. Any sugestions please.

I have 600 miles left of warranty and am taking it in to get looked at today. 2002 2.4 s60.

Any suggestions on what to look for?

Hi, Further to my post S60 non-starter. I got it to my local Volvo dealer, and he could find nothing Wrong at all, he said he tried to simulate it parked facing downhill (by putting it on a sloping ramp) tried it periodically and it started everytime, he later contacted me and said he had conferred with Volvo and was informed that some of the 2000-2003 S60 had experienced Probs starting facing downhill and was found to be caused by fuel pump with return located underneath the pump, it was decided to replace these pumps on cars that experienced this prob with a modified pump having the return on top, they did not do a recall, just changed any that had probs, under warranty replacement was free, out of warranty when prob occured, you pay!! The dealer said he thought this was my problem and advised fitting the Modified Pump,so I instructed him to do it, I had car back and I purposely parked it Downhill and left overnight, next day started, ran for about 10 secs then stalled and as before wouldn't start, I rolled it down the hill onto a flat road and then tried it, started and runs and drives as normal. I now feel that it is flooding when starting facing downhill has anyone got any idea what could cause this please, I cannot contact the dealer untill after the new year break. The pump and fitting, tax, cost me £445 and hasn't made any difference.

Hi all, I am new to this forum and at my wits end with my 2001 S60 2.4 TS Auto.
A few weeks ago I started it and it stalled on its own and I could not start it again, there was no attempt to fire, just turning and turning and I could smell the petrol so Ignition Problem?
Had to get a suspended tow to the Volvo Specialist, (cheaper than Dealer) he rang me next day and all he could find was Battery needed renewing, he said it started ok on fitting new Battery, but he checked it out anyway and there are no fault codes recorded, so had it back and it worked okay again until about 3 days ago. It started then stalled again as above, this time I rolled it down the hill to park by my house(I live on a hill but more cars in road than spaces so sometimes have to park at top of hill) when I stopped by my house I tried it again and it started and I drove to work and back home 9Hrs later with no problem.
Today same again start then stall, just turning with no Ignition Kick, rolled it a few yards but this time nothing, just turns over and tonight I took Spark plugs out and it is obvious petrol getting through, cleaned them but still no joy. I am desperate, relying on other people to get to work, garage won't touch it anyway until after Xmas now.

By the way on reading the forum someone mentioned cleaning Crankshaft Sensor for a similar problem, can anyone tell me where this is?

I drive a 2004 S60 AWD 2.5T and the check engine light came on out of the blue (but I've been getting fuel cap loose messages in my computer even though we keep checking it and tightening it). It just went through its 30K maintenance and they found nothing.

Any clues here. I did have the "loose fuel cap" message tonight and the weather is crappy, rainy. I stopped for an hour, got in the car to drive it home and the check engine light came on. Any relation do you suppose. Condensation or something?

It's been doing fine, just curious what potential issues could be.

I have a 2004 260 AWD 2.5T that has a little over 30K miles on it. Tonight, on my computer, I got a message that there was a loose fuel cap. I've been getting these messages for the past month and have been readjusting the cap and all seems ok. Tonight, the loose cap message came on and I ignored it (it was raining, foggy) and was gone for about an hour. When I got back and started driving, a "check engine" light went on.

Would you suspect these two things are related? The car just had its 30K checkup and it was fine.

Clues???? Things to look for and test before I call the dealer and get whacked with a huge bill.

My name is Hugo and just four months ago, I bought a nice volvo s60 2001.
Suddenly a week ago, the transmission failed completely. Unfortunately, when I purchased the car the vehicle already had 56,000 miles (now has 61,000).
Now Volvo quoted my something close to 5,500 for the total transmission replacement. Then the question to you guys is: Any hint about where else should i take the car?
Can I check out with a different transmission place besides volvo. I don't have much experience with this type of european vehicles.
A tech from a transmission place told me that it could be a computer problem. The car drives on D and R; however, it doesn't shift gears.
I just read a similar commment from one of the members. Since volvo service would make the whole transmission replacement. It would be safe to take the car somewhere else?

For the past month my car has been making a strange noise under certain conditions:
usually after driving it for an hour or so in slow afternoon traffic, when I slowly press on the accelerator, or I let it glide/roll forward, a strange noise comes out for about a second sounding like Uuuuu.... - like some hollow metallic sound?
I took it to the dealer, and after hearing the noise the technician suggested it might be be coming from the gearbox, or it might be wheelbearings, or it might be brakes. They took the car in and discovered a leaking turbo pipe and thought that might have been the problem. When driving home the same noise came up again - I have not yet been able to go back yet.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

Hello Everyone. Recently I decided that I want to do an in depth clening of the backseat of my car. After working several hours on the rest of my car, and finding some little cards and toys under the spare tire in the truck from the previous owner, I decided to make sure it is completely clean, that i wanted to take out the seat cusion of the backseat. I was searching the forums to see if someone else had posted anything similar and didn't see anything. My main question is, has anyone ever done this and if so, how do you remove it. I am going to be replacing my P6 Perelli tires in a few months and would like advice on good comparable tires that won't cost me an arm and a leg and are good on Volvo's. I have not been terribly impressed with the p6's. My tire size is 235 45 R17 all season...I have winter tires(for the Canadian winters), so I guess the new ones would be all season or maybe just summer? What does everyone else have on their Volvo's?

As a follow-up to the post under "Bonjour" on the new 5th Gen iPods and the Volvo interface unit:

After more testing, it appears the iPod does NOT have to be only partially charged. When plugging it in, you just have to hit the menu button VERY Fast when the "charged" screen comes up. Then hit menu a 2nd time for the Apple menu. So the revised steps are:

1. Power off, HU NOT selected to "changer" mode
2. Plug in, key on, iPod will lite up and either say charged, or charging - hit the menu button on this screen twice. IF the "okay to disconnect" screen comes on, you are too late, you are locked into Volvo control only mode...
3. When car is off for a long time, car will shut off and finish charging iPod as before. When car is re-started with HU on AND IN changer mode, no problem! The iPod will say "charged" and that screen stays while it starts playing the last song used. Just hit the menu button to go back to the Apple menu.

So its not that diffcult, we just have to master a few steps to get full Apple menu control!

Hi, and Merry Christmas to you all. I am a new member as of less than 5 minutes ago. I just by chance googled "Volvo Ipod Adaptors" and found this forum. I was looking to see if any other Volvo S60 R owner has done it and how hard is it? I just bought my 60 GB video Ipod tonight. I have a 2004 Volvo S60 R with factory sport package. It will be almost a year next month that I have owned my R. And I looked the other day, and I have little over 5000 miles on my car! LOL! I have my Subaru SVX to get me through the winter, so my R is in storage again. I still have the orginal summer tires from the factory. The only mods that I have done is that I installed a BMC oil based air filter from Italy, and NGK Irriduim Spark plugs. And I painted part of my engine cover to match the silver of the body color and painted the letter "R" in blue to match the rest of the engine cover. Anyway, I thought I introduce myself. Sorry it was so long winded. But Hi to all.

I have a 2001 S60 2.5T and love it . . . but have two questions:

1. The alarm remote does not "beep" when you turn it on . . is their a way of making it beep?

2. Are there any good replacement radios that have Sirius capability?

Two weeks ago I replaced the right front tire on my wife's 04 S60 2.5T AWD with 17" P6's because it had a bubble on the sidewall, today while she was driving to work the left rear shredded @ 35mph. To say that I have no confidence in the Pirelli P6's is an understatement. Pirelli says that both of those problems are because they're low profile tires with soft sidewalls and that the P zero nero M+S would be a more durable choice.

Has anyone else had any P6 problems? Sure seems like Volvo could have made a better tire choice especially for cars sold here in the North East.

What tire is a good choice for a replacement? I'm leaning towards the Michelin Pilot Exalto but sure would like to hear any suggestions.

My 2004 S60 auto trans with 28,000 miles has an intermittent transmission slip between 2 and 3 gear. The car went to the dealer for 30k service and they did all the basic stuff. Check fluid, pull codes and nothing. Trans has slipped 2 to 3 times since. Called dealer couple days ago and still waiting for a answer.
Any thoughts.

I have to change tires on my 2004 Volvo S60 2.5T FWD. I have the factory installed Pirelli tires currently and they have been good except that they rub the fender during turns making an annoying noise. The dealer says its normal with the Pirellis, which beats me.

Any recommendations on other tires or other Pirellis which will last longer. Michelins, BFGs, Goodyears etc?

I've been a lurker for a while, but just started having a bit of a problem with my 2003 S60 2.4T. I was hoping someone might be able to help out.

In the morning, the front end of the car tends to whine/creak a LOT when steering. This problem passes after I have been driving the car for a while, but will resume again the next morning. I just want to find out if this is relatively normal, or if this is a problem with the power steering system. I'm under warranty, but I wanted to pick your brains before I take it in for service.

Also - I've noticed that the transmission is not very responsive in the morning either. I have the auto, and the revs tend to get a lot higher in the morning... I figure this is normal too, but I don't know.
