Hi guys can any one help,have a small problem regarding my water ,first has no water in oil,no water in the car,no sweet smell,car drives wonderful except i cant keep my water level on max, just above min is the norm, temperture gauge is normal.changed thermostat due to jamming shut and the car boiled over put new antifreeze in. seems to act as a air lock you drive fast and it boils over.drained and refilled slowly to avoid any air trapped in the system.changed rad cap i am definitely loseing water i think out through the rad top as i can see pink water but why ? with car ticking over my electric fan does come in and out.has any one got a clue should i start changing hoses is it worth changing the stat again,could it has any think to do with the senor that brings in the electric fan. cant here the fan at all when driving but car is quite any way. with the level kept so low eventually gets a low water light on ,so what do i do any help would be great

Last March I got the control arm bushings done and the endlinks replaced. I know the endlinks are new because I can see them, but the control arm work is worrying me. Now when I brake the car shifts and a loud thump can be heard like something is popping out of place???? If I brake lightly there is no thump or shift, but when I brake from speeds over 25mph the shift and thump are evident. I also checked this when at a complete stop and it appears that the wheels are shifting back towards the body. I suspect that the control arms are the culprit, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So it looks like this is the year for major repairs. Just had the radiator replaced and the top end done. Timing belt, water pump, etc. And now, finally, the passenger window regulator is blown.

The question is this:

I am going to purchase a used regulator. Paying $600 for a new one on an 11 year old car doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I have seen used units as low as $112 and I would like to buy as "new" a unit as possible.

Up to what year will a used replacement fit the '99?

I have C70 and I have a problem with RTI, because it doesn't work. I thought the cd is without my country map, but i found out that cd is damaged. I live in Lithuania and there is a little problem with the map. But for new Volvos the RTI maps are available. For my Volvo I can't find anything. Could You help me and tell what to do? I would be very thankfull

We as the C70 owners has the worst skuttle shake of all cabriolets. Mine is 2001. There are lower chassis braces as performance equipment (only rear brace recommended for c 70) to fix this problem to a certain extent. What I wanna ask you is that can these braces create severe problems for the chassis in the long run? May these cars be made to flex?

I'm a newbie to this forum, I have just purchased a C70 T5 GT convertible 2000 plate. First i have to say this is my first Volvo, and I absolutely love it. BUT ........ there's always a but, I can not get any of the seats to operate back and forward with the seat levers, this still works with the electrics but is a painfully slow. Any help on what I should be looking at to sort this out.

I just bought a 2000 C70 with a few problems. One of which is that am getting an oily smell from the vents with a tinge of antifreeze smell. I am not completely sure that it is antifreeze and the level is to normal but that could have been topped off by the seller. The AC system is charged and is working but again that could have been topped off before I bought it. I have no history from this car other than the 84k miles are correct. The engine looks very clean, it is possible that engine cleaner may have been pulled into the air intake to create the smell.

Are there instructions on changing out the heater core on my car? Are the o-rings accessed from the outside? I can do the work if I can read on how it is done. I have searched this forum for "heater core replacement" but did not get anything back.

I may need to change out the driver door window regulator as well. Any links to instructions would be appreciated. I am fearing that I let the sparkle of the convertible distract my judgment in buying this car. BTW, I paid $4950.00 US for it.

Hi everyone i have had problems with changing gear for quite a while,just a delayed in changing between the lower gears then having to use the kick down which mean that some time going over the speed limit.gradually getting worst could not get any advise on where to start, some say gearbox fault,some say some think to do the vacuum so i plucked up courage and took it to my friendly garage that turns out to be Volvo specialist with a difference any repair to be carried out i was able to watch and learn, great. put on the reader and guess what all this trouble,all this time it turns out to be the throttle body, just four long bolts couple of pipes to disconnect the unit was off inside the bore is coated with oil which has come from the turbo, was wiped cleaned only then reassembled with a new gasket,i paid £68.00 all in,and my car is back absolutely wonderful to drive changing is sweet as a nut,but now if problem returns i can do this myself so we all gained,hope this info can help other as it is a very easy thing to do.

never in my entire life would i have thought i would own a volvo. but i do. haha. its my first car that i actually owe payments on and im actually really glad i did buy this one. anyways lets get on to the car. i now own a 2002 c70. its completely stock and i really dont wanna keep it that way. just little upgrades here and there to get just a little more power out of it. does anyone know where i can find a new intake system for it. just for starters. thanks alot.

Hi all, I have recently purchased a 1999 UK Model c70 2.0 LPT. Whats the best way to extract more power from this model?
Is it possible to upgrade the turbo to a hp one?
Is it worth upgrading the ecu chip or re-maping?
What about upgrading the intercooler?
Can you adjust the boost on the standard turbo and will the engine need modifying to handle this?

How much can I expect to spend to achieve a noticable difference?

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm probably going to get hell for this but what exactly does T5 mean? i see these videos about T5 exhaust, kits etc. but I'm pretty unfamiliar about the performance side of Volvo's so somebody want to fill me in.

On a side note, my first car back in 98' was an 87 Volvo 740 GLE, just bought a 98 c70 and i must say it's nice to be in a Volvo again

hey yall, i just got my C70, but im having an issue with the alarm, when i lock the car, i dont hear the horn, or alarm or anything, just the lights, also when i press the panic button, the lights just start to flash, no audiable nothing,

is the sound disengaged??, i know that with some cars you can do that , is this one of these cases, i looked in the manual and found nothing. thanx

Hi, I have a 2001 C70 2L LPT coupe and it has developed an intermittent starting problem, it does not start every time, when this happens it turns over but does not fire up. I have found that the motion of opening and closing the boot seems to be enough to get it to get it to start on the next try. Does anyone have anu ideas please? Also does anyone know where I can get a workshop manual for the 2001 C70. Many thanks.

I am picking up a 2002 C70 convertible with non-elec seats with no heat function.
I have found a pair of elec adjustable heated seats and was wondering do they just plug into the loom that emerges from the carpet/door sills and is there a connection under the ashtray to power new heated seat switches?
I basically want to know if the standard loom is the same for all cars and if fitting elec seats is just 'plug and play.'
I am aware that two circuit breakers need to be fitted in the fuse box and again I am asking if the fuse box is standard for all cars and when I look there will be some empty slots (39/40) for the seat CB's?

Im a driver not a mechanic, so need things explaining simply. Ive had my C70 for 3/4 years and have had to have the steering rack changed 3 times now (which would be 4 racks including the original). This seems completely wrong. The seal goes on the rack and I cant just replace this, so have to have the whole unit. The problem is usually because the warning is strange noise on locks and loss of transmission oil. New rack went on last week and the driving is too strange and a bit worrying to drive this time. Cars fine in a straight line but on corners, the wheel pulls jerkily to try and put itself back straight. It also does this when not moving but with the wheel on lock. It is a very disconcerting feeling and really pulls the wheel. An idea has just been mentioned that maybe the hydraulic system, creating too much pressure, causing the pulling but also explaining the previous seals going??? Any idea's anyone??

I bought my cabrio c70 last year in winter and had no water leaking problem. however this year despite I got it fixed twice, it still gets water under heavy rain!

we used the sprays to make the RUBBER SEALS paddy (inflate and/or fill out). this seems like the main problem. Aint workin'.

I have a C70 Cabrio MY 1999 and I would like to open the roof while the car is moving (at low speed, I promise...).

I disconnected the sensor of the handbrake, fooling the car to think it was still on, but this did not work. The car began to open the roof but suddenly a sound alarm went on and the roof stopped opening. I guess there is a movement sensor somewhere that also needs to be fooled...

Anybody knows how to do this?

Just bought a 1999 2.5t GT Coupe with the premium sound system, I have two problems with it...

Number 1... The radio has intermittent interferience, sort of whines, like it is picking up the alternator, seems to do it with the CD player aswell but again only does it once the car is warm or been driven fro more than 20 minutes. Kinda kicks in suddenly then eventually stays on all the time with CD's or radio, any clues as to what to look for to remedy it?

Number 2... The entire drivers side speakers, dash and door just started to blip in and out and then went out fully after 30 mins of driving and havent yet come back on, are these two related?? Its the ten speaker set up aswell.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I couldnt seem to find much on the search option, maybe the wrong keywords?

Thanks to the trifling individual I purchased my car from I've learned quite a few lessons over the last few months. While he may have said "all original rims on the car" I should've paid more attention to his protest to me putting aftermarket rims on the car while I was standing there. Since I have not done it yet, when I needed to change a wheel bearing and track rod end on the front left side, imagine my surprise to realize that one side of the car had spacers when the other did not. Upon further inspection as to why, we discovered that while yes they were all original Volvo rims however the two on the left side of the car did not come from my car and need the spacers just to be attached to the car.

To top it off they even had two different sets of tires on the front and back.

Now I have replaced the wheel bearing, track rod end, and put on some fresh GY Eagle F1s and my question now lays in:

Should I get new nuts and put two more spacers on the car or should I just purchase new rims all around for the sake of balancing the car properly (and to make it sexy of course

)?

Hi guys don't get much luck with answers from you guys lately but heres another wee problem, about 6 months ago was about to take a trip to London on the morning the car,out of the blue just boiled over done all normal check's turned out to be the thermostat the engine temperature gauge was reading slightly lower than the norm.any way six month on went for a drive on the motorway not along trip about one hour not excessive speed got back home and you guess it boiled over yet again, refilled again three days on no trouble no loss of water, still a good drive, heaters boiling hot. would an air lock do this temp gauge dead centre some one said it could be the head gasket on its way out there is no water out the exhaust, no water in oil only done 63000 car is regular serviced have you any ideals.

New here but have been driving Volvos for years..Had a 2000 V70 diesel which was a great car but then for some mid life crisis reason I sold that and bought a vintage VW campervan..But after three years of freezing my nuts off bought a 2001 C70 T5 convertible which is Loooovely!!!

Anyway I have a question..I want to change the standard in dash stereo. Its got the pro-logic option with the big speaker in the middle of the dash but Id like to change it for the touchscreen type with GPS sat nav etc...

I was looking at this on on Ebay and was winder if anyone knows if the "hole" where the stereo goes is classified as 2 DIN .

I don't want to splash out loads of dosh and it not fitting!!!

AT shifts great, sporty or simply going up the gears. But, driving in traffic, I notice some behavior that Volvo mechanics says those are the signs of a failing AT. He said I will need to change the AT but might get it fixed too.

problems are:

1. While accelerating slowly, the car seems to take it's time shifting through the 2nd gear. Every once in a while (every 50km), from 2nd to 3st gear, the engine RPM will shoot up slightly just for a split second, then it will continue with 3rd gear normally.U dont feel it, just the engine sounds like in natural for a second or less.
2. When l step on the accelerator slightly and sometimes it feels like the transmission is in too low a gear. The engine begins to advance, and then the transmission "kicks" in after a slight delay.
3. Sometimes (every 200km), as I slow down to come to a stop, I can feel the transmission shift down (2nd to 3rd).

What are he meaning of these signs?

I need your advice cos it is very hard to find a AT mechanic in Turkey. By the way VolvoTurkey does NOT fix AT, they just replace it. Is it the way in EU or the States?

I have just bought a Volvo C70 2.0T Convertible 2003, 56,000 miles on the clock. I have a 3 month warranty so I can get things fixed at the moment. The car pulls slightly to the left on a straight road, so I have to hold the steering wheel (on the right) to pull it back to the right. Has anyone any idea what this might be?

The car is fine when driven normally, but if I have to accelerate hard at a roundabout for instance it seems to lurch before setting off & doesn't run properly? I am worried it might need the turbo looking at, can this be checked?

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2000 C70 and am loving it! I have just put it through its MOT and all was well. After some really heavy rain which caused some pot holes to appear (hidden by standing water!!!) on the road i use to get to work, i think the front passenger side wheel bearing is damaged. There is a constant rubbing/grinding & vibration coming from the front. I have jacked the car up and spun the wheel and confirmed this would appear to be the case.

Could someone provide me with some guidelines on how to replace the bearing? I have a done a bit of tinkering on cars before but this is something i have not done.

I've sold my VW EOS with a nice add-on installed called SMARTTOP. The unit offered top operation by key remote and one-touch open/close at slow speeds.

I'm now getting a C70 and asked the manufacturer for a module which is compatible to this car, they told me, that they need a car to adapt the EOS unit and that they are looking for somebody local (I'm in Europe).

They offer a free module incl. free installation in return.

It's black/dark grey interior. Sunroof, heated seats. 110,000 miles. Automatic transmission. It's for sale at a Buick-Pontiac dealership a few miles away for $5,200. Clean CarFax, no accidents, but has had 4 owners.

1st question, the "thing" that goes under the glove box broke off and is in the trunk (I think it's a storage compartment). Is it some way it can be reattached or do I have to buy a new one or...? The part of the dashboard just under the steering wheel must have broken off too at one point because there's 4 screws holding it in place. Doesn't look horrible though.

2nd question, It's missing a small piece/cover off of the front bumper, it's toward the right side. Most C70's I've seen seems to have this same cut-out. I'm not sure what it is or where to get another one, but it's just a big hole there now. Think the dealer would sell it or...?

3rd question, do either of the front seats recline back fully??? I tried to recline both of them and they don't recline back very far, like if you wanted to lay down in either of the front seats.

It seems to start and run really good. The "Service Required" light is on I think, the "light bulb light" is on too, but I didn't notice any wierd noises or anything out of the ordinary really. The steering wheel makes a slight scratching noise when you turn it. If anybody knows of some things I should check when I go back to the dealer tomorrow afternoon I'd appreciate the heads up. This would be my first foreign car. I've been reading this forum all day and it's pretty informative. Let me know if I have a decent buy on my hands...

I recently took delivery of a 2010 C70 with the multimedia package that includes an USB port. The owners manual refers to an accessory manual entitled "USB/IPOD Music Interface"; any idea how to acquire the manual? Secondly, what MP3 player will work with the USB port; only IPOD (what models?) or will Zune, Sansa, etc. also work?

I just replaced the turbo of my C70 convertible. The old one has been broken becouse of the metal oil tube was fully blokked. So the axe of the turbo was not getting any oil and broke in 2 pieces. The reason that the oil tube blokked is probably the oil itself (carbonisation). Now i have in use 1/2 synthetic oil. This should be fine. This will not burn to carbon pieces at high temperatures.

However, ignition on: all lamps are on, starting the engine the oil lamp is off

During riding it goes on and stays on and later it goes off for a little while, then it goes on etc...........

Help...
Is this a oil pressure problem (so i have stop driving) or

is it a wire connection problem......

Or is it a oil pump that does not know to choose: go to work or break down............

Just bought my first volvo and loving it. I do have a problem with the drivers side window though. When I close the door, the top of the window sits above the seal rather than under the lip, leaving a large gap down the rear of the glass. Is this an easy fix? Do I need to adjust the glass or the seal or the electic window stop switch?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all , Just thought I would show you all my latest toy, it's an Oris Touch screen multi media centre that plays DVD's MP3's, TV, Radio , the whole lot. Added to this I have installed a camera to the back of my car cos the visabilty is crap when the top is up. A Sat Nav box can be added too for £120 but I have no need for that as of yet.

The whole lot cost £300, and is probally the best thing I have done to the car yet.

The unit just slid straight in to the opening left by the standard radio, with just a small amount of packing underneath so not to see any gaps above.

The aeriel for the Tv is amplified with the power coming from the reg plate lights(always on), and is housed in the convertible hood cover as pictured.

The camera is powered via the reversing lights and automatically switches the screen to the camera image on selection of reverse gear, so you can see behind you instantly without having to do anything. I can now park within cm's of the object behind me without ever touching it, brilliant in car parks etc.

The only problem I encounted was the socket/lead for the speakers. I had to make a lead up to enable to get power to the amp so the speakers would work. This was done using a 9 pin plug, 4 RCA plugs and some patience.

Since I have found somebody else on the S60 forum who has posted pictures of his lead, so I'm in good company.

Anyway I would be intrested in any comments or questions anyone would like to make or ask, so fire away.

Hi. I have a 1998 C70 coupe, the other day my check engine light came. Stopped by my local shop this morning and had them check the code, said it was the coolant temp sensor. Also checked a little under the hood. I trust the mechanic and believe this is an accurate diagnosis. Quote to fix worst case is about $125 includes parts and labor. Made a appointment for the 17th and went home.
Then I thought maybe I could do this my self, save & have a nice sense of accomplishment... I was recently laid off form my job so I am trying to reduce spending where possible and I have the free time. I am handy with stuff but not an expert mechanic (ex: last fall i removed the abs module to be sent in for a rebuild and put it back in, abs working strong!).
Questions
-Is the temp sensor replacement on a similar level of difficulty?
-Do I need to drain the coolant to replace the sensor?
Should I drain the coolant to replace the sensor, and if I do, do I need to use volvo coolant as a
replacement?
- Should I replace the thermostat at the same time?
-Where would you recommend purchasing the sensor from, any sites with consistently good
pricing/service?
-How tight do I tighten the sensor and anything else I should know that might trip me up?

PS: another unrelated problem I have been having for a long time is with the climate control, on long drives the temp tends to drift down toward the cold side, is it possible this temp sensor is bad too? Where is it located in the cabin? Maybe I can dust it off or clean it and if thats not possible then order a new one with the above parts.
