Hi

I have a 1998 C70 T5 and the drivers seat doesn't function anymore. The forward and back button and the up down switch has stopped working. Troble is it's stuck quite far forward and I can only just get my legs in!! Can I try anything?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi Forum, I have a 2008 C70 T5 with almost 20000 miles. I have the 18" Pirelli wheels and they are practically bald on the insides (from which I have read in other posts is where these tires wear out first). I need to replace them. I do mostly city and hwy driving, my #1 requirement is they are quiet, I would like for them to last 25-30000 miles. Does anyone have any recommendations/suggestions? I'm looking at Falken FK 452's. I'd like to spend around $150 per tire, hopefully that is possible and can get a good tire since I figure I will have to replace tires every year and a half (big time bummer, but the funness of this car is worth it!!).

Hello to everyone in "C70 Land". As a new member, with a new C70, I thought this was the place to go for advice concerning a problem that has came up. First off, I have been a C70 owner since 2005, when I purchased a "cherry" 2002 C70 with VERY low miles. When the hardtop C70's came out in 2006, I decided to wait a few years for Volvo to work out any "bugs" in the hardtop mechanism, before I bought one. When, in 2009, Volvo came out with the Vanilla Pearl color on the C70, I right away knew it was time to buy! During February, we located our C70 in Alexandria, VA, and purchased it within a week, trading in the 2002 C70. Love the car, AND the color! Within 2 weeks of the purchase, in March, the switch that controls the left side mirror became defective, and the local Volvo dealer replaced it while I waited.
No problems noted in April. In May, I noticed two "dents" in the boot that comes out to cover the open area behind the rear seats, when the top is put in the down position. Each "dent" was located approximately 11 1/2" back from the front of the boot, and about 2" inward from each side. I took the car into the Volvo dealer, and inspection showed that the mechanism that moves the boot back and forth, sits on brackets on each side (inside the trunk) when the top is in the UP position. When closing the trunk, the mechanism strikes these brackets, which causes the mechanism to then hit the boot, causing the dents. The mechanic disassembled each bracket in the trunk, and noticed a SHIM under each bracket. He removed the shim, stating that should expand the clearance between the mechanism and the boot, and solve the problem. An appointment was sent up where I would leave the car with the dealer for 3 days, and he would install a NEW boot, and complete recall work that had come up on that model. On 29 May I picked up the car, and was very happy with the work done. The new boot had been installed. On 5 June (six days later) I lowered the top and discovered the new boot was now dented, in the same places as the old boot. The next Monday I phoned the service manager and informed him of my problem with the dented boot (again). He stated that he would discuss the problem with his boss, and perhaps get a Volvo engineer involved. He stated he was unaware of other C70's having this particular problem. THAT is what I would like to have help with--has anyone had a similar problem with the C70 hardtop models? I will appreciate any comments concerning this problem and thank you in advance for your responses.

Odd thing happened the other day. I have a 1999 c70 convertible and haven't had any major problems since I purchased it 6 months ago. I was driving down the freeway and the brake light turned on, at the same time, the speedo and odometer died. When I tapped on the brake, everything turned back to normal. Any ideas as to what might be wrong? I'm hoping all I need is a new abs module or something simple. Thanks.

By the way, I had a problem with the passenger seat back not reclining. I used the memory button and now all is well.

Anyone have the PIRELLI PZERO ROSSO tires?

We have approx 15K miles, and the tread wear is excellent, but the road noise is overwhelming (of course changes on different surfaces).

I hate to shell out $1000 for new tires when these still have plenty of tread left, but what's our recourse?

Any ideas, suggestions will be appreciated.

We have the 18" wheels with 235/40 ZR18 91Y Pirellis.

The ABS light is now on, and in the past, I was able to pull jiggle
the sensors on the wheels and reseat them and it seemed like the
problem would go away for a while.

I know their is the $125 rebuild of the abs module, but I hate to
throw money at that, when it could be the abs wheel sensor being
loose, dirty, or something at that level...

any ideas?

I have faulty volvo 6 disc cd-changer connected to SC-805 radio head - bought a replacement Alpine CHM-S630 from e-bay which came with cable and Vola2 adaptor - only problem is vola2 interface is missing the interface that contains the mini-din lead (which plugs into radio unit) and the 2 wires (yellow & red) which carries the power - these vola2 adaptors are about £60 squid to buy - can anyone supply or point me in direction of getting just this interface ????

The 2004 that I recently bought only has 14,000 miles on it. When I decelerate to about 25 MPH I get a small steady pulsing in the gas pedal. It stops at about 5 MPH. I can also notice it to a much lesser degree when slowly accelerating between those speeds. There is no vibration in the steering wheel nor is there any in the pedal at other speeds.

Any ideas?

I put new tires on the front (the old ones had a lot of tread but many cracks). The pulsing went away!

I am new to this forum as well to this car. First, I love it! Now for the problems:

1: Driver side seat will not release to let the seat move forward (rear passenger) I can hear the electronics clicking but will now not release (just stopped one day). 2 part,,,, 1:when I switch the release handles both back and front,,,, nothing. 2: When I move the little spring (contacts) tighter, the seat will move backward and forward but still no seat release. It currently does not even do this unless I push on the spring and hold it. Do I have to take this all apart? Any good suggestions on doing it?

2: The infamous noise under or by the steering column! I have heard of using vaseline around the seams. Does this work?

3: The horrible grinding sound when you turn the steering wheel fully.

That's about it for today. Any ideas or suggestions would be perfect.

hi guy hope you are all OK ,was given a wind breaker for my car, all instruction are printed on the bag,but it don't seem to fit right has any body used one, can anybody help?

hey everyone... i'm a new guy here... this is my first volvo, so i know very limited amouts about them.... about a month ago i bought a '98 c70 hpt 5spd... car has 35k miles... was working fine untill yesterday... i turned the car off, and when i came back to turn it back on, nothing happened.... so i get out and repeat all the steps to get it started back up and here is what i've noticed...
1. when i put the key into ignition and door is open, no beeping sound to remind that door is open...
2. mover the key to the first position... windows don't roll up or down but locks work... radio doesnt work... brake lights work but not the headlights... hazard light work but not the turn signals... still no beeping sound...
3. move key to ON position... i can hear the fuel pump run for a sec and then a click somewhere from the cluster... the gauge cluster doesn't work but shows the milage, trip odometer and clock... still no radio or open door reminder... and as you've figured car doesnt start...
checked all the fuses, relays and everything seems to be fine.... this is my only car and just sucks that it crapped out on me like this... any info or guidance would be greatly appreciated....

I have 2001 C70T5. When I turn the steering I hear a mechanical click noise and also I can feel it at the same time. But it only happens when I drive very slowly about 20-30km/h. I sometimes hear and feel the same thing when I brake. What would be the problem? Does anyone experienced a simular problem? Thank

I am new to this forum. I am picking up a new 2009 C70. The car is equipped with the Premium, Cold Weather and Convenience packages. It also has an auto transmission (I wanted a manual but could not locate one), xenon lights and the Dynaudio. If anyone has any suggestions or advice on the car please let me know. Hopefully this forum will be informative.

In late February, we purchased our Vanilla Pearl C70 at a dealer in northern Virginia. During May, the wife and I went out to dinner, with the top down. Upon parking, I proceded to activate the top up. A number of people stopped to stare at the car as the top came up and the car changed to a hardtop coupe. When I got out, a woman came up to me, all excited, and said "I FINALLY got to see one of these Vanilla Pearl convertibles! I saw a segment on TV the other day, and it said only THREE C70's with this color had been registered (bought) in the state of Virginia"!! (Actually it's the COMMONWEALTH of Virginia, but that's another subject altogether).
Of course, the Vanilla Pearl is available ONLY on the 2009 Volvo C70, and since I bought it, I have not yet seen another one on the road. Could her statement be true?

Please if anyone can help give my some idea whats wrong with my air con and heating it would be very much appreciated,
The blower or fan or whatever you call it is not working at all on any settings, could this be a fuse that has blown?
I know nothing about cars so any help anyone could give me would be great

My 2005 (old shape) C70 convertible has developed a nasty creak from the drivers window top !.
When the window is lowered by a small ammount their is no creak, & a perfect smooth quiet ride......window up & the horrible creak re-appears.
Car still has volvo warranty, shall i seek help or is this acceptable ?

I have a 1999 C70 with 56K miles. Recently the car will not start. It will turn over briefly 2 or 3 times and then die. I then have to wait about 20 minutes before being able to start again. The problem seems to happen more when the car is parked on an incline with the front higher than the back. it does not happen when the front is lower than the rear on an incline. HELP!

Bought a 2006 C70 on the weekend and I love it except for two things - The headlamps have a chip and a crack in them. They are hard to notice and are nothing major, but I'd like to know can you replace the glass or is it a whole headlamp ?
If I have to get headlamps can anyone tell me of somewhere cheaper than a dealership.

i have a 2004 c70. when windows are raised, it sounds like glass on glass when i hit rough road. i am aware there is a rubber moulding, but it does not stop the rattle. is there anything i can do? ie: adjust window, or lube it somehow.

I've been reading all your posts about your tops not working. Mine's working fine, just disintegrating after 11 years in the south. I've moved it to Michigan and looking to replace the top. The question is Stayfast vs. Sonnendeck. Any input into fabric choice or shop would be appreciated!

Hey all! I love my 2007 C70! But there is one thing that I am not that fond about.

When I am driving with the top down the seat belt flap (cannot find the right word- oscillate, flicker ???) really fast which kind of hurts after some time. I am 6' 2" (187 cm) and I think that shorter people will not have this problem. What can I do to stop it?

Please ask if you do not see what I mean.

When you put the roof (on my 2002 C70) down the windows stays up and the chime makes no sound, but the roof continues and parks itself ok.
If you partial open the side windows then close the roof on completion window close and again no chime.
The local Volvo agent calibrated the roof then gave up?

hi everyone hopes all going well,i wants to here your advise. i have C70 soft top that has a slight closing problem.on the finale part of the roof closing the part with the rear screen attached to the panel at the you have to `u`collapsible clips/brackets that will clamp the roof down at its end. right my problem is as these clamps go through the rear panel its seem slightly out of aliment and i cant see any means of adjustment,there is a little on the part with the window section but i believe its needs to be adjusted from with in the section that this u shape bracket goes into. any advise would be great,i don't really want to put it into Volvo garage

Any suggestions on how to get the rear section of the top to unlatch?....the dealer can't get into the motor/sensors to recalibrate because they can't get the top to go up or down(manually or electronically).

It's worked perfectly. was putting up the top, when the rear section went to latch, it caught but I had to manually close it the last inch or so with the tool volvo provides...Read some of the earlier posts and took it right to the dealer.

They can't unlatch it manually to open the hatch so they can diagnose.

just bought 2000 volvo c70 cabrio for summer.
got realy good deal,but it's got few problems
1. engine light is on, sometimes it would not start,but when it starts rips stable.
took it to garage(not volvo) they found faults:ECM 720A - Imobiliser communication - signal missing, and ECM 510F Vehicle speed signal - signal missing.
2.when i start driving in abou 1-2 min break,abs,traction control lights comes on, and on the saame time speedo stops working, garage didn't find any faults linking to this.
3. pasinger window cable brocken, do i need to buy electric window moto, or can find just cable?
4. top would not moove, but i can operate it manualy, first i need to sort engine and breaks out.

if anybody knows anything about it, please help me

I was thinking on improving the handling of my C70 cabrio MY99 mounting
a front strut bar.

Has anyone done this? Did it improve the handling of the car?

My son (with my wife in the passenger seat) hit a curb at about 25MPH and it tore up the right front wheel pretty good. The obvious damage is that the wheel is broken and I can see that the front lower control arm is broken where it connects to the subframe. I can also see where the brace that ties back diagonally into the frame is also damaged. I'm not sure what that piece is called, but it's just a tubular piece about 1/2" diameter and probably a foot and a half long. The point where it bolts up under the car to the frame at the back appears to have pulled the bolt out about 1/4". I guess my first question has to be if that connection point for that diagonal rod is a replaceable bushing or if it tore some threads right out of the frame. Also in a typical situation like this what would normally be expected to have to be replaced? Would I expect to have to replace the entire subframe? The vehicle is almost drivable, but the tire is now rubbing against the back inner fenderwell a little.

So I got my suspension work done....and now I have a vibration/rattling noise that I only hear when the car is in drive, or when the car in on an incline. The noise seems to be coming from right behind the firewall and the vibration can be felt in the brake pedal when at a light or stop sign. If I put the car in neutral or park the noise goes away....Please tell me its not the transmission....Help!!!!!

Can anyone tell me if there is a simple way of turning the driving light off on a C70, I was able to remove a fuse on my SAAB 9-5 and was wondering if there was any quick way of achieving this in Volvo's

Just bought my first C70, having owned a number of 340's through my driving lifetime, and now i find the bonnet won't open. The car was bought from suction, and the seems to be in perfect order, except for the bonnet...

the catch on the drivers side releases just the driver side of the bonnet, and the passenger side doesn't move at all. figured out how the locking mechanism works, just wondering if anyone knows the best way to fix this. Tried squirting WD-40 into the locking mechanism using a straw but thats had no noticable effect.

I am new here and need some help please.....

My fiance was backing the C70 out of the garage and the antenna and the garage door met....destroyed the antenna. I uderstand from the dealership that the whole unit has to be replaced on the C70 and is expensive (400.00) as wellas a total "bear" to replace. Can someone enlighten me on this please. There is a 70.00 antenna on the net available from Audio Etcetera, but I suspect it may be generic junk (may be and hope I am wrong) and would appreciate some comments on both the part and the labor procedure. The dealer said everything was more difficult because of the angles involved???

I'm looking for a C70 convertible owner in Southern California / Los Angeles area.

I've sold my VW EOS with a nice add-on installed called SMARTTOP. The unit offered top operation by key remote and one-touch open/close at slow speeds.

I'm now getting a C70 and asked the manufacturer for a module which is compatible to this car, they told me, that they need a car to adapt the EOS unit and that they are looking for somebody local (I'm in Europe).

They offer a free module incl. free installation in return.

my c70 makes a noise as though the wheel is catching when it is on a slight right turn and carries on making the noise right upto full lock as soon as i straighten the wheel up it goes any ideas it has ben checked and they cant find anything and it only does it on the right hand turn thanks

About a week ago my SRS light came on all of a sudden and has stayed on I have taken the car to a local garage and they have scanned for codes but none has come up, has this happened to anybody else? is there anything I can check myself before taking to a main dealer !!!

Tha only thing I have noticed is there seem's to be a slight rattle coming from the passenger seat ???

hi guys can any one help,had my C70 about three years the car is approx 9 years old but has only done 60,000 miles i only do about 2000 a year.when i first had the car the gears just suddenly would not select, so got towed to the the dealer where a new gearbox was fitted.the car is a lovely drive but it just seems to that the gear change is a little bit slow at time, could be between 2nd and 3rd but not all the time, can this be auto gearbox fault or a etm fault the car is only used for small journeys and probably only used for a good run about twice a year, but a part from that the car is a dream

Apologies if this has already been explored, but I'm new to the forum and couldn't find anything.

Is there an upgrade for a 2005 C70 convertible (from the 1999 - 2005 range) to allow you to press a button once to completely open or completely close the roof. Frankly, its a bit of a pain having to hold down the button on the dash for 30 seconds.

I've tried pressing and holding the unlock button on the key fob, but no success. The owners manual doesn't mention anything either.

Just wondered if anyone had solved the problem?

I notice that my transmission oil evaporates or leaks?
Over 6 months I find myself putting in a quart of fluid
because it has disappeared. Any suggestions to this?

(Side note, I did have this transmission rebuilt by a transmission
place a few years back)

I own a 2002 C70 Convertible and the lock on the drivers door is not working or engaging? The latch will move up and down (electronically) so I'm not sure what needs to be replaced. Any tips on the removal and installation would be appreciated. Looks like a very tight squeeze to remove the motor, assume one entry would include removing the 2 screws on the side of the door? Removing the door panel is not an issue, appreciate any help.

The top broke and now the dealer says its $3k to fix- the parts are outrageously expensive. Even with used parts it'll be $2000.
Are there options? Have you heard of Volvo covering any of this- it sounds like many have had problems

My 2000 Volvo C70 Coupe has developed a problem with the passenger seat. The seat will no longer tilt forward when you pull up the lever at the side. No amount of pushing back and forth will shift it so all back seat passengers have to enter and exit from driver side...very annoying. The seat's electrics are working fine!

Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi, My wife has found a 2004 C70 HT convert. that she wants to buy. Its mileage is around 40K. Are there any areas that I should be aware of that might be a problem with this particular model? The carfax shows that the radio was replaced and some other normal wear items. It seems to be a pretty nice car. Will be inspecting and driving tomorrow. Any input would be greatly appreciated. It happened this morning. I tried to close the top. It stopped during the closing process... the top-switch's light is of now and seems to be dead, since no reactions occur. The lid for the roof is stuck in upward position!!!!... and I cant find a possible way to close it. Because of the upward lid i have no access to the trunk either...

I dont know what the problem is, since it used to work fine, so i thouht its the topswitch. i pulled it out and put it apart. Now I just took the electrical part with the brazings and plugged it in ( accidently upside down) then the light from the switch turned on again, but still nothing works. If i plug it in the correct way theres still no light and no reaction

SO do you guys think its a problem of the switch or something else. Besides is there any way I can put the stuck lid down so I can at least drive?

PLS....HELP!!! I'm grateful for any answer....
