Hello Volvo Nation,
I bought a '99 C70 a week ago. I like the car for the most part, but have a few questions if there are any experienced C70 owners on line. How can you tell which engine you have(the gy at the auction didn't know)? Is it normal to be kind of noisey when driving on rough roads- ie: suspension. Is there any way to by pass the radio code? A volvo dealer gave me the code that is supposed to be for my radio, but it still doesn't work and now they say i have to bring it in to the shop just to get the radio to work.
I have a few more questions and would sure like to talk to someone who knows about C70's.

Complete Engine and Transmission with turbo from 1999 C70 Coupe
Tested and working, 45K miles, Car had rear right side quarter panel damage but start and ran. I needed the front clip to fix a 2002. So I have all this left over.

I am new to this forum as well to this car. First, I love it! Now for the problems:

1: Driver side seat will not release to let the seat move forward (rear passenger) I can hear the electronics clicking but will now not release (just stopped one day). 2 part,,,, 1:when I switch the release handles both back and front,,,, nothing. 2: When I move the little spring (contacts) tighter, the seat will move backward and forward but still no seat release. It currently does not even do this unless I push on the spring and hold it. Do I have to take this all apart? Any good suggestions on doing it?

2: The infamous noise under or by the steering column! I have heard of using vaseline around the seams. Does this work?

3: The horrible grinding sound when you turn the steering wheel fully.

That's about it for today. Any ideas or suggestions would be perfect.

Hi all, i have a 1999 C70 T5. black with 18" rims. I recently installed powerchip and must say that what value for money.

increases are 176kw to 210kw and 330nm to 400nm of torque all for AUD$1000.

also upgraded the exhaulst with a resonator. The stock C70 muffler is really designed to keep the noise level down. i'm not very mechanical but when i saw the size difference compared to the sports muffler i was surprised. the stock was 3 times the size, made up of numberous chambers.

so now the my C70 gives a low classy sound and so much power for no major modification to the car.

Although not a newbie to Volvo's I am a new C70 owner, looking forward to chewing over the issues with you all as they crop up.

A little history: As a child I was breast fed on a 244 DL, went through teathing with a 740 GLE, graduated to a 850 GLE Wagon, and bought an 850 GLT Sedan for the missus, now of course, the ultimate 'Volvo joy-toy' has landed. Although I work for Honda, as you can see Volvo's have always been my passion.

The board seems to be very active, and well thought out I look forward to some challenges and some help here and there, as we can all be as thick as our cars sometimes!!

Looking today at a new C70 convertible. Just found out that all models are 2004 because they are discontinuing and planning to introduce the retractable hardtop model. What does everyone think about this - will the soft tops be orphans with regard to resale value and parts availability for the top? Seems like Volvo is hoping to compete with Lexus and Mercedes with a gimmick. Look forward to everyone's thoughts.

I have a 1998 T5 GT with 100K miles.

The car is general very good in all areas although I am experiencing heavy steering when approaching full lock in either direction.

I had made visit to my local Volvo main dealer who applied grease to the poli-steering bushes slightly easing the problem. The dealer explained this is a “design issue” on this model. Any comments or modifications available?

Occasionally I experience a grinding on full lock and slight knocking over ruff ground. Any suggestions welcome…..

Hi All

Does Anyone know how to remove the manual gear knob on my volvo c70. I have managed to turn it anti clockwise as if to unscrew it but am at a dead end, and cannot get the thing off any further. Is there a locking mechanism of some kind holding it in place??

My fan blows out a gassy toxic steam when I switch the fan on. I can't warm the car or clear the screen. If I turn the temperature dial, the steam comes out so I have to have it switched to cold! The passenger side carpet get wet so I guess there might be a leak thats linked to the fan?

I live in the UK in Cheshire a small village called Great sutton some 12 miles from Chester, 20 miles from Liverpool.
At present I drive a 2 seater sports car.

I feel a bit of a fraudster, at present I don't own a Volvo but am looking to buy a C70 (convertible).
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to any faults I should be looking out for, are there any really bad points. Those who already own a C70 (covertible)would you buy another, any help would be appriciated.
I have my eye on one at present but not sure what to look for as I've never had a Volvo before. I'm lookimg at a 2003 model 15,000 miles £19,000 is this a fair price or should I haggle with dealer.

hello, this is first time, i have owned my c70 t5 now for 4 years and i just had the airconditioner fan replaced today, it costed me nearly US$700. this prompt me to go to this forum and ask if this is normally what it cost for this part as i'm hurting.

hello all i own c70 t5 and im just having a little trouble with performance and would like any information on the electronic throtle system and wondered if anyone had a simlar problem , any advice would benifit in my situation because i have been informed that you can have it cleaned or if broken the cost would cost around £500.00 to fix at a main dealer

Just had V70 do a complete diagnostics and they say there's no faults, but I know the engine doesn't work fine. What should I do? Accept their word or insist on further checks?

Hi everyone,
I am the proud owner of a C70 - in the garage on Xmas day last year (better than the Lexus!). Anyway I was in an accident a few days ago - I was going about 5 mi, car hit me at 55mph in front of passenger front tire. The body is missing from the front of the car - they were all ripped off from the impact! The top big steel piece on the passenger side is in the engine compartment. I am really concerned the insurance company won't want to total this car - if they don't will it ever be the same? Anyone with car accident experience and this car? I love this car but...

Any suggestions for C70 my window regulator keeps going out, light bulbs needs to be change constantly and Window Noise.

Seats are starting to wear after 50k,

Any suggestions would be helpful. Radiator changed after 49K,

I love everything about the C70 except one thing. It has a recurring, intermittent problem with the convertible top warning system. About 25-33% of the time after starting the engine, the convertible top warning light goes on. When you start driving, it "dings" incessantly. The only way to stop the ding warning is to stop the car, engage the parking brake, and press the convertible top button. The top opens partially, then returns to closed position. It's quite inconvenient especially in the rain.

Two mechanics looked at this, one was totally dumbfounded, and the other said the electronic sensor needed to be adjusted by a Volvo dealer that has the proper computer equipment. Two dealers claim they have no way to fix the problem.

If anyone else knows about this problem and a solution, please share. Thank you.

It was raining yesterday very heavily while I was driving my 98C70. It had never happened with my car, but when I got back home she was not starting properly. Its engine rattles like a snake tail. What I need to do now.

looking for your opinion for my 98C70 I am intersted to add some mods on its rear side. as u know while u drive.........people can only looks at the back of your car for long time. Front glimpse is for very short time. will come back to collect ur opinions and suggestions

Hi i got a 96 V70 and the problem is this it got ordinary glass front head lights i want to change them with clear glass(crystal head lights) is there any possibility

I m looking for some kits and parts that can lower my C70 it is 1998modle with 46 k miles on it. I am looking for an expert opinion what parts i will be needing to lower it and what precautions i should adopt for this modification.

last year bought a brand new C70, bvu the car has went to the workshop atleast a 15 times and the major issues was that its engine dont stop rattling at low RPM. I dont know what is disturbing it. I think the mechanic at the dealers's workshop is not skillfull and cant tuneup the engine ECU. guys need ur help.

I am new to stick driving..... u know manual tranny. i was obssessed of this sporty baby. but now i am feeling little handicap with it. while gearing down from 3rd to 2nd i found strange type of cracking sound comming from the interior of the engine or transmission system.My C70 is 98model i purchase this used car recently. guys do u think that i need to improve my driving style.
