I have a 2000 volvo c70 convertible. I have noticed that the driver's seat (leather) from the getting in and getting out of the car is wearing badly. Any suggestions on fixing this situation??

I have recently bought a Volvo C70 1999 2.4T manual. For some reason when you take off or brake it makes a tweeting noise like a bloomin canary! Its not an engine noise, I think it myust be suspension... Has anyone else had this prob? It doesnt seem to upset the performance of the car or anything, in fact it doesnt seem to affect anything at all, but for such a nice car, its a shame for it to go round tweeting at everyone!

I notice a lot of brake pad dust on the front wheels. Wondering if this is common with all of the 2002 vintage models or if this is unusual?!? Just turned 40K miles and going to replace anyway and wanted to know if there are ceramic pads available that folks 'in the know' would recommend (brand, vendor, etc). If aftermarket not recommended, does Volvo offer anything that doesn't shed as much dust?

i got a bad virus that wiped out my system and had to reset my computer to factory settings.
theres no problem if you dont have it anymore it just saves me having to do re-do another one for one of the boys on another forum if you still have it.

I have a 1999 C-70 and the oil dip stick has broken. I have been to 5 places and nobody can reach it. Was told that the dipstick tube would have to be remove. Couldn't I just continue to drive and change the oil, etc and leave the stick in there? I don't see how it could hurt?

Any advice is appreciated.

I'm a pretty die-hard manual transmission driver, but when I stumbled upon this 2002 C70 convertible with an auto tranny, I couldn't pass it up. Slowly but surely I'm getting used to driving an automatic, but I'm not sure if it's shifting the way it's supposed to.

It shifts great, going up the gears, especially cruising down the accelration ramp to the expressway. But, driving in regular suburban traffic, I notice some behavior that I'm not sure is "normal."
1. While accelerating slowly, the car seems to take it's time shifting through the gears. It won't shift into 5th until I get up to about 40-45 mph. Every once in a while, inbetween the low gears, the engine RPM will shoot up slightly just for a split second.
2. As I pull around a corner coasting, I'll step on the accelerator slightly and sometimes it feels like the transmission is in too low a gear. The engine begins to advance, and then the transmission "kicks" in after a slight delay.
3. Sometimes, as I slow down to come to a stop, I can feel the transmission shift down. Is that normal?

I can't help but think that maybe there is a vacuum leak somewhere, which might be causing this behavior. But because I've never driven a 5-speed automatic, I don't know what to expect.

Can someone shed some light on this subject and educate a Volvo Newbie?

I have a 1999 C70 Covertible with 52K miles on it. I bought it a few months back but still notice that the doors don't shut 'well' It takes a hard slam on the drivers side especially to get the doors 'all the way' shut. I'm constantly having to open and reshut the doors to get them all the way closed.

I'm wondering if there is a door adjustment of some kind that could remedy this problem? Advice?

My car has the 17" Comets with the larger factory brake rotors... looking for something for winter tires, the Meteors from a V70R look almost identical to my 17" Comets but are 16x6.5 vs 17.7.5... Will they fit, or will they hit my brakes, be the wrong offset, etc. Don't want to buy them if I can't just get some 16" winter tires and bolt them on.

I just had my '07 C70 in for its 22,500 mi. service at the dealership where I bought it. They performed the usual oil & filter change, fluid checks, brake lining check, etc. They also did some sort of a recall fix on the convertible top. Strangely, I received the car back with a dashboard rattle that wasn't there before, even though the dealer did nothing with the dash. I immediately took the car back to the dealership, went for a ride with their mechanic who heard it too (<40mph, bumpy road). After several hours of diagnosing, they said it was some type of plastic spacer/nut that had stripped threads and therefore was loose; and, by the way, it would take a week to get the part from Volvo-Sweden.
Long story short, I got the car back yesterday and you guessed it - the rattle is still there... My husband and I went for a ride in it last night and he said it sounded like it was coming either from the instrument cluster or from behind the cluster. Has anyone else experienced this type of problem? I'd be interested in hearing your experience so I can guide the obviously befuddled dealer. Thanks.

I am new here and need some help please.....

My fiance was backing the C70 out of the garage and the antenna and the garage door met....destroyed the antenna. I uderstand from the dealership that the whole unit has to be replaced on the C70 and is expensive (400.00) as wellas a total "bear" to replace. Can someone enlighten me on this please. There is a 70.00 antenna on the net available from Audio Etcetera, but I suspect it may be generic junk (may be and hope I am wrong) and would appreciate some comments on both the part and the labor procedure. The dealer said everything was more difficult because of the angles involved???

Hi please excuse i'm a new C70 owner with a couple of queries. Car is a 99V C70 2.4 non-turbo auto in basic trim.

My first query regards the boot lid. Obviously this is internally released, but should it open the lid or just unlock it? im wondering if my lid support has lost some of its strength or if it was never designed to lift it fully?

If the lid should open (or if this is a possible mod) I would greatly appreciate your advice,

Has anyone installed a trailer hitch on their c70 convertible? I'd like to use a hitch mounted bicycle rack on mine. Just wondering if anyone else has tried putting a hitch on their convertible.

I'm new to Volvo ownership, so I'm not familiar with Volvo's 5 cylinder turbo charged engine. I have a 2002 C70 LT convertible with 68K miles on it. I just bought it 3 weeks ago and I'm slowly but surely working out any bugs as they crop up (I'm a bit 'anal' about my cars). Nothing major has needed to be addressed - I'm simply trying to get a 'feel' for the car.

I've noticed that I can feel engine vibration in the accelerator pedal while driving. The car seems to "rumble" slightly while at a stop light (automatic transmission). The engine runs smooth and strong otherwise. Is this normal for the C70? I'm just wondering if the motor mounts need to be replaced and how often they should be replaced, or if this is how a 5 cylinder engine with a turbo charger normally performs.

Just curious to see if anyone else had problems with the 18" Mirzam rims on a 2006 C70. I took delivery of a C70 with the rims on 6/2006, and by 9/2007 (22,000 miles) had to replace all 4 rims because they were out of round with steering wheel shimmy. The 4 18" rims I replaced them with were found by the dealer to be out of round 2 months later at 24,000.

My driving is done between NYC and Long Island, and I put alot of miles on this vehicle, but was wondering if anyone else had this much difficulty with the 18" wheels on the C70?

BTW, I checked the tire pressure religiously (every other fill-up meant twice a month) on the first set because they are such low profile tires...and maintained them at the factory recommended 36 psi front and rear. The second set I maintained at 38psi cold tire pressure because the dealer said it would help protect the rims.

Looking to make the leap into a C70 soon and, having just got into snowboarding, I was wondering if anyone had any experience of fitting roof bars / rack to the C70 coupe?

I've managed to find details of the boot rack that you can get for the convertible and I guess that would work on the coupe too(?), but haven't managed to find any details on the web of bars / a rack that will take to the roof of the coupe.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Not sure this is a make or break with respect to my purchase but it would be good to know before I 'dive in'.

I just got my 98C70 back from the mechanic, but I cant find my Radio Code. I'm hoping...hard....that there is a small batch of codes for this yr. Anyone have any ideas? Not sure which model my radio is, but it does have an integrated 3 CD changer in it, if that helps any. Thanks in advance guys.

I'd like to get other people's opinions on the obvious turbo lag of the HPT.

It actually probably has me driving safer at slow speeds. I try to avoid the turbo kick without realizing it, especially when I'm starting from a stop at a light. Hopefully I'm not as bad as the people who typically annoy me because it takes them so long to get moving you think they nod off any time the car stops.

The big problem is on-ramps. If I've got to stop then floor it to merge I've got almost a good second before I move!

My 780 probably hadn't see a mechanic in a good while when I picked it up. But I drove it 1000 miles home (yes crazy) and it seemed to perform better. Minimal lag and better at the 80-90 MPH passing. But its been years since then and its not running now so I can't really compare.

And isn't the C70 "850-based"? My dad had a 96 855T and I remember the feeling of "oh this isn't much" when you put your foot down followed by "holy sh*t I'll never be able to stop this!". But it seemed to come on quicker and more smoothly. The C70 really is, as someone else here put it, a kick in the ****.

I did have my check engine light on for quite awhile with no apparent problems but it went off last week and I see no difference in performance or gas mileage so I don't know what it was. Its going in for the 60K service (about 5K early) so I'm hoping there's something *minor* wrong that will make it a bit better.

How many speakers has this got???? Can you replace the centre speaker with any aftermarket jobbie or is it just the Volvo unit?

Do I have to remove the dash to remove the center speaker?

Last year I got a good deal on a 99 C70. Love the car even though it has the worst turning radius of any car ever built. I am finding that little electrical things keep failing: the seat motor doesn't work, some sensor thing needed to be replaced, etc. The latest problem is the top. Every time I get in the car and start driving, a beeping starts and an indicator light tells me that the top needs to be re-closed. I push the top-up button, the top opens a little, then reseats itself. Anyway, before I take it into the dealer, I was hoping to hear from anyone else who had the same problem who can tell me what is going on. Is it a bad sensor? What? Thanks.

I just removed the rear bumper on my 1999 C70 to install a trailer hitch and I figured this may help some others.

DO NOT remove plastic rivets on bottom of bumper.

1. Remove all of trunk lining
2. Remove 3 bolts attaching bumper to inner fender liner on each side.
3. Remove tail lights and body filler section below tail lights.
4. On the passinger side (USA) below the light there is a blue device held in place with one bolt. This need to be removed so you can disconnect a wire connected to it that goes through the bodd and to the bumper.
5. Remove tail pipe tip.
6. Remove 2 large bolts (one on each side) on bottom of bumper.
7. Slide bumper off car.

Hello from Massachusetts, USA. I own a 2001 C70 that I absolutely LOVE but...

All of a sudden the auto door locks, fuel door release, trunk release and alarm system have stopped working. Anyone had anything like this happen before? It's making me crazy and i was looking for insight before going to the mechanic.

Greetings all! Now that oil based gasoline has topped $3.50 per gallon where I live, I have been trying to find information on whether or not E85 type fuel can be used in my 2000 C70.

If so, are there any parts that would need to be changed? Any reprogramming of the ECM or other on board computer? E85 is selling for about 60 cents per gallon cheaper and heck, if the IRL biys can use it to make great horse power and run 200 MPH, why can it not be used for our Volvos and help out with lessening oil demands?

Are there good software to access ALL ECU's and DTC's?
I don't want one where you can access only this and that.
Only drawback, it has to be cheap:)
How is this for instance?

Happy owner of a '98 C70 -- but I think my power steering pump gave out. Was wondering if anyone orders parts online and where?
I did see some posts about e-bay and wreckers - I would prefer a new pump. Got a price from the dealership - $550?!?!?! Crazy!

I have a 2002 volvo c70 convertible auto that sometimes will start and others it won`t, it is now getting that it very rarely starts. I have had it in to numerous garages and had new throttle system,new plugs,servicing and a new crankshaft sensor all to no avail. If when it happened we locked it and then unlocked it used to start but now this does not even work.
I have had the problem again this morning, managed to get it started and took it to the garage. getting depressed now can anyone help me.

I'm new here, so I thought I would give you a brief intro.

I drive a 2007 Subaru WRX, but really like Volvo. When I bought my car, I was really close to pulling the trigger on an AWD S40, but ended up opting for the Subaru.

The C70 is my moms, and it's a 2006. For Christmas, I bought her a Garmin Nav system, and now I want to hard wire it so she doesn't have wires running all over the cabin (plus the 12v acc port is in a kind of odd place).

I already bought the hardwire kit for the Garmin, now I just have to get to ripping up the interior of the Volvo and tapping some wires. We currently have the Nav mounted on the lower left hand side of the windshield. Is there a Switched 12v power line running anywhere around there that would be easy for me to access and tap onto?

I just shipped my car across country, and heard weird noises from the engine when he pulled it off the truck. Turns out there is a huge hole in the Oil Pan. My question is, should I buy one used? ($125.00) or new ($400.00), and what is the price of the Gasket too? Any help would be appreciated in this process.

Hello all. I'm a new guy on the site with a "new" 1999 C70 with almost every problem that can be wrong. One of them is that although the top seems to be all the way up, the sensor doesn't believe it and keeps the buzzer going and going. The top worked when I first got it, but after I got the car back from the shop (to fix several other unrelated problems), the sensor is upset and now the top won't go through the lowering process. It will lift the rear edge a few inches and suddenly stop. The front never disengages. Could this all be a sensor problem? Any way to override? Thanks! Michael

We just purchased a 2004 C70 HT & there doesnt appear to be a tether hook for our sons forward facing car seat. Is there one we just can't find or can one be installed?
