My daughter is having an issue with her 2009 XC70
When the vehicle is first started in the morning and still in "Park" the engine light remains on and the message "Reduce Speed or Shift Up" appears in the centre of the tacho below the temperature indicator. The engine initially runs at between 1500-2000rpm reduciong to between 600-700rpm and idles very rough. When turing the know on the turn indicator the engine light goes off and the message disappears. When "Drive" is engaged and the vehicle moves off the engine still runs very rough as if it is being starved of petrol. After a few minutes driving the engine runs normally. At the 45000klm service the dealer was not able to locate a cause and indiated that they has not encountered the problem before. The problem has continued and the dealer has made enquiries of Volvo Australia and received the response "it was not a known concern" and suggest it be checked on the system checker.

I think I'm in trouble. I just bought a 2008 XC70 that is riding on 235/50/R18 road tyres, and because I go off road and farms a lot I keep getting punctures, and I think All Terrain tyres will be best. (My other XC70 that rides on 215/60R16 Yokohama Geolandar AT-S, never gets a puncture in the same roads).

Is there a brand that makes 235/50R18 All Terrain tyres? Seems nobody does, and if I get a bigger size, will it work ? The next size up is a lot bigger at 255/60R18, and that's just too big.

Help.....what can I do ? Can I go a different sized tyre without changing the very expensive Volvo rims to maybe a 16 or 17 inch? (I can't afford this option). Or is there a brand that makes AT tyres in that size or close to it?

Hey guys I have a 2008 volvo xc70 3.2L l6 that came to me with the head off. I got the head back on the cams are locked with the volvo tool the crank is at tdc but theres no timing marks. im trying to put on the cam gears but have no experiance with this engine any help would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone had the issue of an intermittent power loss on the D5? I have a 2008 D5 estate. This has been back to volvo dealer 3 times now but it never happen with them, they have replaced the EGR valve as a fault code was pointing to it....when the fault happens there is no smoke/warning lamps or messages just no power, from a standstill it will struggle to 55mph max.....if its left for say 5-10 mins its back to normal anyone with any ideas?

i let my 2013 xc70 run for about 20 minutes or so in the morning. i have max. defrost engaged w/ the fan on high (i have even tried max. defrost on auto). the snow and windows still are on the windows and i need to brush off my car.

what is the trick?!?!?

My 2009 XC70 wagon wont started as per the heading. Slide key into dash and a " click click click" noise starts. Push start button and "turn steering try start again" appears on the dash.
Steering is not locked and click click click continues when start pressed. Key then reluctant to come out, but once removed dash reads "steering lock, try again"

on the 2013 xc70, the passenger side wiper can be pulled away from the windsheild to help clean the snow off the windshield but the driver side hits the hood and can not be held away from windshield. what is the trick??

I have a 2008 Volvo XC70 with 30,000kms. On the first start of the day it fires quickly. However, if let sit for an hour and then restarted it has an extended crank (3-5 seconds). I have had the fuel pump and fuel tank replaced and it is still happening. Has anybody else experienced this and if so any resolution. I think the dealer is stumpted?

I am a new 2010 XC70 owner, and I need to get a barrier of some kind to place behind the back seats to keep my dog in the cargo area. Does anyone have any advice on whether the Volvo accessories - either the cargo net or the cargo bars are good for this. Or can anyone recommend a third party product that has worked well.

My 08 v70 is leaking washer fluid. Most (but not all) of the fluid I pour in the reservoir runs out under the car in front of the driver's side tire. I was careful not to spill any, so I know that is not the problem. I crawled under the front of the car and can't find any damage. Has anyone else had this problem?

Unfortunately, one of the tires on my "new to me" 2006 XC70 blew out the night before Thanksgiving after hitting some debris on the roadway. Since it is time to consider winter tires I wonder if I should consider purchasing them now. We go to the mountains to ski every weekend. This is my first AWD car and all weather tires. Should I put snow tires on it or will all weather be enough? And if I do go with snow tires, do I consider studded tires. My previous car was a Saab wagon and I had studded tires for the winter on it. I could get through anything. I realize I will be putting off the problem of replacing the blown tire until spring. Then I guess the question will be whether to replace the all weather tire to complete the set or go with a summer tire and buy 4 new tires. Any help here is really appreciated. I just don't know what to do. Thanks!

The intake valves on my head are bent. I pulled the head yesterday. I went to pull a part and found a 97 850 wagon with a B5254T engine. Will the head off the B5254T engine work on the B5254S Engine? Thanks.. There is also a 99 V70 base model same as mine except my car is a 98...

Hello.. I have a 98 V70 with the 2.4 B5254s engine(Non Turbo Base)149,000 miles automatic. I was driving the other day at roughly 40mph and my serpentine belt broke. When the belt broke the car shut off immediately. I pulled over and walked to nearest parts store, bought and replacedserp belt. When I tried to start the car it will turn over but will not start, and when I say turn over it seems that the engine it half heartedly trying to start. It sounds like it has no compression. I know very little about the cars history. I pulled the timing belt cover off and the timing belt looks to be newer. The V70 did not over heat. It is getting spark,gas and air but sounds weak when you turn the key and will not start.. I have a pretty good grasp on cars but this time I am at a loss. Did it jump time? Any help would be very appreciated. We need to purchase a new (bigger) car and were seriously considering a new XC70. However I was speaking with an experienced mechanic who told me that

a] Volvo's are not terribly reliable and once out of warranty will be likely to develop problems that are expensive to fix

b] He'd only recommend a Volvo if I was planning to turn it over before the end of the warranty period. This will not be the case - we will keep whatever we buy for a long time.

c] He'd recommend a Japanese car (eg. Mazda) since they are generally more reliable and cheaper to maintain

Up until now I'd regarded Volvo's as a very solid and reliable model. Some of the postings in this forum also suggest that this is not the case....

So, I went to the local Volvo dealership today to look/ drive pre-owned vehicles. I am currently in an 850 wagon N/A, and wanted to get a V70...low milage. All they had were XC70's (2009-2011) and a V50. Drove the XC...nice, of course compared to my 850, it was a dream. BUT...fuel milage stinks! He was talking 17mpg round town...yech. I assume it's a combo of the weight, AWD. MPG is kinda important to me due to the economy and my wallet. But I do enjoy the comfort of the Volvo.
They want about $23K for these cars...some with one year left on warranty.
Questions:
-Any particular year to avoid in the XC70?
-Shall I just wait for the V70's, is there anything that's a 'must have' on the XC that I would not get on the V70...(It doesn't snow that much here on Long Island).
-I can, for $28K just get a new Outback with some bells and whistles...

Hello its my first time posting in this forum. First off excuse my bad english. So i have a volvo Xc70 2009 Manual gear changing, 6 Gears, D5 Engine @ 180~horsepower. My problem is that when im driving and i switch my gear to neutral to start breaking, my RPM meter(or whatever its called) Stars bouncing from 500 to 900 RPM. My engine shut down 2 times in the past two weeks from this. I went to my mechanic to check the onboard computer and when the mechaninc connected his computer, the cars screen showed this ECM 210 117. Is that an error message? And how can i fix this problem.

The car back i noticed this whining noise. And it was not there before hand
I have had the car back to the dealer. They say that the car has had a software
update. And that the values have change. And there is nothing to worry about.
They also said that there is no faulty recorded in the ECU. Has anyone else
has a software update and noticed the same thing. Or is there a part on its way
out. I will post a youtube link to see if anyone knows what it it. The whining
is coming from the right hand side of the engine. Sorry clip is not very good

I drive a 57 (2008 model) V70 D5 SE Sport its only done 36,000 miles and is a great car had no issues in the last 12 months until I took it for a service I used Servicingstop.co.uk (as seen on dragons den) they farm the work out to local independents at a reasonable price...

Any way I had the car in with them it had a major service they changed the oil,fuel and air filters as part of the srvice but after it came back within 2 days it came up with Engine System Service Required (error code 95) all the garage do is re set it and after a few days its back on again ..just happended again for the third time and am awaiting them coming out to the car .. :-(

Does anybody have any clues as the independent garage just appears to be treating as a service required light and re setting it ...I am wondering if they have used the correct grade oil which is making the the car threw up the error messages .

Help greatly appreciated.

Ive got this technical challenge:

I want to install my Coyoto radar-teller; which gets power over 12v or 5v USB. I've got an Brodit clip to mount it...
I have an USB connector which is in use for my iPhone4
The 12V connector in front is mounted so I can not use it (or I have to leave the cabinet open, and we do not want that:-))

So I need to install an additional 12V or USB under the dashboard!

My garage offers this service through an external company who asks as huge bulk of money to install a 12v connection...
This can not be so difficult??

Does anyone know where I can find info how I can do this myself?????

I bought new Volvo xc70 from dealer in 2011 in my country (Poland). After 2 month of usage the problem arrived. Dashboard (and central console) are source of strange noises while driving (cracks etc). Mechanics used some 'special' oil to fix that but it didnt help

. Do You have similar problem with Yours volvos, and maybe You have some ideas how to fix it?

I am considering purchasing a 2008 XC70 but have a question about the availability of 3rd row seating. I don't find it published in any optional parts list or even mentioned in any article. This is a major decision maker for me.
I personally have an aversion to driving SUV's and the like because I don't like driving higher vehicles (lower to the ground for me - as I feel I have more control).
Any help is much appreciated.

I have a 2008 XC70 (40K miles). The stereo system sounds great but it doesn't have any of the bells and whistles I would like. Not to mention my wife was given a loaner (2011 R Design XC60) while ours was in the shop and loved the satelite and blu tooth options on it. To avoid buying a whole new car I would like to know what options I have for either factory upgrades or aftermarket systems that would work with my car and provide blu tooth, satelite, and USB connection.

I have a 2007 S60 with a dealer installed iPod connector cable in the armrest. The radio has been displaying unusual characters and fails to change stations at times, which appears to be linked to the ICM unit according to other posts in the forum. However, in addition to these internal radio issues, I have now lost my second iPod in three months via its connection to the radio. Both units were fully charged, connected to the cable, and working one minute, the next, entirely dead/corrupted. Anyone else esperiencing this situation?

I am considering importing my 2006 Volvo XC70 to Sweden from the US. I am seeking clear information regarding the changes that will be required so it can pass Swedish inspection. For example, I believe that the dominant display of speed needs to be in kilometers/hour (not miles/hour - as it currently is).

One possible way to do this is to have the entire driver's side speedometer panel replaced. But this will be quite costly.

According to earlier discussions on this website, the 2010 Volvo XC70 can be changed to have the speed displayed with kilometers/hour dominant via a simple adjustment to software.

Is it possible to get speed displayed in the digital message section of the dashboard (where other information is displayed) for a 2006 XC70? i.e. By just an update to system software? If so, how expensive is this?

I've tried getting this question answered by Volvo dealers in the US and abroad but have not had much luck.

I've just bought a volvo XC70 AWD 2012 D3. The dealer told me that it was possible to tune it to D5 or 245Pk.
I had a S80 AWD D5 manual before.

I find it ok now, but wil it make a big differince to tune it to 245 (from 163Pk). It's an automatic, when I place it in sport-mode it's ok.
But just in drive, he's a little bit slow.

I want to know if it will help, because it wil cost me 800 euro's... Also he consumes at this moment 8 to 9 liters diesel / 100KM, isn't it high?.

I have an IPOD Nano. According to volvo, this should work with my 2011 XC70 in USB mode. However, when I change the mode to USB, attach the IPOD Nano, nothing happens -- just continues to display "connect device." Any help here?

Just bought 2012 xc70 - test drove and I have had Volvo cars in past- didn't realize how bouncy- mini vibrations constantly on city streets
Have bad disc condition in back- the car is really rough and already screwing up my back -
Ride- anything can be done to make it a smoother ride-

I recently purchase a XC70. On a long trip I wanted to use T1 to record total mileage,
and T2 to record per fillup milleage. I found that the odometer only went to 999.

My service centre says that this is what modern Volvo's do. Seems strange.

Is this correct? Or is my odometer faulty?

Can anyone advise? My RTI system does not seem to store locations & settings. It works fine, but when you turn off the engine all the settings you have put in (destinations kmh/mph etc) all revert back to Factory default. Any suggestions?

I have a 2011 and can't find any coilovers/springs etc. to lower the 08-11 xc70. I've looked everywhere I can think of and keep getting the same answer. "They don't make one".

Has anyone heard of ANY company, ANYWHERE that makes a set of coilovers or springs to drop the newer models a couple of inches?

...and the stereo tracks how long the "song" (section) is for the Audible book, which can be several hours long. When it hits 99 minutes, 59 seconds, it wraps around to 99 minutes 01 seconds, and repeats that process. After 99 minutes, I have no idea how far into the book I am without disconnecting the iPod and checking manually.

I'm hoping that a complaint to Volvo might get a change, and I could update from the firmware change.

I can't be alone with this issue, right?

(Side note: Had this amazing XC70 for 6 weeks, and a large tree dropped a branch on it from 50 feet up. Just got it back from 30 days in repair. Looking for a sympathy answer here.)

In our new volvo XC70 there is city safety. I now have an S80 from 2007.
But the new one has XC70 2012 has city safety.

Does anybody has this system to? Because of the following:
For example:
You're on a road with 2 lanes, and a 3th one to turn of in a little curve.
I'm on the second lane, the other car in front of me wants to turn off so he
is on the 3rh lane, because it is a little curve he is right in front of me.
In my S80 i get a warning for a collision. But because he doesnt have city safety,
he doesnt stop. Also i'm steering away from the in front of me at that moment because of the little curve.

What will my new car do? Stop abrubtly? or ignore it? There is infact no danger because me on the second lane an the other on the 3th lane.

Hope somebody understands what i'm trying to explane

I'm wondering wich formats it can play, is it only dvd or also divx etc? Does anybody know? Its nog the system with the screens in de back.
But in the screen of the navigation, i've taken te option of premium sound.

On my primary V70 mod 2008, I had to adjust my samsung I900
volume settings for being able to make confortable calls.
On that car, I got audio from all speakers.

On my brand new V70 Mod 2011, using same phone, I only get
front-left speaker active when calling and low bluetooth volume.

I gave a try with a nokia 6303 and both speakers seems working
correctly...

Any idea ?

I have a V70 mod. 2008.

I have a strange behavior listening music from USB Key:
Sample : I switch to usb, start listening 10 tracks from my usb key.
I switch to radio for a while and then back on usb, it continues playing
song where it stopped.

keeping car unused for a while or staying in my garage for the night,
switching to usb, it restart playing track 1.
I do remember it continued where it stopped some time ago.

Now, I own a brand new V70 mod 2011 and switching back to usb,
it continues playing where it stopped as expected, even over a night.

I tried with different USB keys with same results.

What's going wrong with my V70 mod 2008 radio ? Any idea ?

I'm a newbie to the forum although I've owned quite a number of Volvos in the past.
I need to know if there's a way to reset the maint reminder light once the oil change/maint has been performed.
I do these things myself and would prefer NOT to go back to the dealership.(nearest one is approx 60mi away)
The car is a 2008 XC70 with the 'insert key/pushbutton start' so the 'old' way of doing the reset that worked on my 2003 won't work on this one. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

2009 Volvo V70, real door lock had broken. Still will open with remote, but not lock back door with remote. I purchased new lock on eBay. Anybody have an experience with panel removing procedure on Volvo V70 2008-2010. I know how to remove on older model, but not quite sure on this car. Please help me with steps to remove door panel.

I have a Sept 2007 built V70 ("All New") and the heated rear screen has not worked for a while. A check made recently has shown that the electrical connection has detached from the glass making it unusable.
Is this a common problem? anyone recommend a source for a replacement that will not cost me an arm and a leg?

I have a new volvo v70 2011 model which I should have connect hands free mobile phone and other electronics.
Where can I find some drawings that show how I take the original car stereo out so I can connect any power, etc. ???

I have replaced the front stabilizer links, replaced the brake pads and now have developed a very light rattle in the front end. It doesn't matter if it's a rough or smooth road- it's always there. hey, i just bought an 08 xc70 and realized it only came with 1 dvd. it did come with the empty box that seemed like it should have 3 dvds. when i activate the nav, it shows the mapping of current location, but if i try to program in a destination, it does not recognize many of the north eastern states ( i'm from ny and it is not available). are there missing dvds that should be loaded. if so are there 3 dvds?

Also the dvd pack (empty) says "s80 2007-". Is it the wrong one for my car or is this one compatible with all volvo?
