All, My S80 S 2.4 Bi-Fuel (2002) has for the last few days constantly been showing the amber coloured Engine Management Warning light.

Anyone know why this comes on ?

The car is running fines without any probs.

Is there any way I can reset this ?

My S80 T6 carphone just recently stopped working. Whenever I turn it on,

1) nothing happens, the lower left dashboard screen goes blank (where it normally shows the numbers dialled)
2) when I type in a number and press send (the green button) the words "please wait" come on and it hangs.

The shop have said it will take $4000 to fix as its out of warranty....

my 99 S80 has the 2-3 shutter when driving under heavier than normal throttle, it doesn't shudder when driving "normally" meaning just cruising. I've heard it could be the solinoid (sp?) or the torque converter. Recently, I took off the ABS mod to have Victor fix it. i own a 2000 s80 non turbo for 3 yrs now. i love this cars even though it has costed me an arm and a leg so far. i bought it in 2003 with 54,000 at 58,000 lost tranny, volvo replacement tag was 3000. since then nothing major. last month i took it for a timimg belt at 115,000 , i told them to check the car while its there , they did tune up, timing belt, oil clogging cleaning and...

I've heard over and over again that 99-02 S80 owners are having to have their trannys rebuilt more that 1X.. On Volvospeed I read about a high performance tranny (although I think they are for the t-6). Question is this... does anyone know if these types of tranny rebuilds (or the trannys themselves) can be used in the 2.9L? If not - are there ANY more permanent fixes vs. spending 5K???

Hi ya's. My mechanic of the last 10 years has had my S80 (2000) in his shop for 7 days all told, and he is as frustrated as I am. Front end is making clunking noises at fairly unpredictable times. Mechanic has replaced pretty much the whole front end. The only posts I saw that might give us hope are the transmission torque rod and the upper motor mount. I'll tell him about that tomorrow....

I've decided to tackle changing the oil seal on the PCV system this weekend. While I have the intake manifold off I am going to cleam the ETM. Any suggestions on these jobs would be helpful. I have picked up some useful tips from other postings on this site but any further suggestions would be helpful. I have the O Ring and gasket.

Thought it'd be a good idea to share the wealth here and pool our experiences, to form a checklist of things to look out for when buying a used S80.

I'll kick off with:

1. Cold start the car - if it delays it could be the starter motor or ECU
2. Check warning lights on dash (but these may well be cleared ahead of you purchasing!)

me has a biigg lambda warning problem. thinkin' it is the ECU - does anyone know whether the ECU for the S80 T6 (1998/99) was the same all over the world. Reason being - I bet they are alot cheaper in the US than the UK as per usual.

Anyone know any good breakers who might be able to supply one?

I just bought the car with 90K miles. The engine temp is fine, but when I stop, it smells like something is burning. Its not a brake smell. Any ideas?

My rear headrests win't lock into place. I can hear the mechanism clicking when I press the button on the dashb but they wont stay locked.

bad static on the AM radio. Hit the door lock button or adjust the seat and it clears up for a moment. Any ideas? Also, seems as if I'm not getting her into overdrive at highway speeds. Otherwise, shifts find. RPM's are at 2700 at 65mph. Help

My 1999 S80 T6 with 72k miles has recently developed an oil leak. No engine problems, it's running great, no noises --- nothing. Just a leak. Hard to tell where its coming from. Drain plug is fine. Maybe the oil pan O-rings? Any one know how to tell for sure where it's leaking.

I have a 2001 S80 T6 with 17,500 miles.

I've noticed this more when first driven (after being parked in cold weather) and at slower speeds, but there seems to be a significant rattle/creaking sound somewhere from the dash forward on the passenger side of the car.

I have no idea where it is coming from.

Any ideas?

Love this car!

New ETM this fall. Started having loss of power on acceleration the last few weeks.
I drive a lot for work.
Was going to bring car to Gengras Volvo, East Hartford Ct. Great Dealer!
Instead, cleaned ETM. Runs fine now. Gengras said that its under warrantee if this continues.
Little concerned that it needs cleaning...

I need some advise, At Bridgewater Volvo (NJ) I just had a new transmission put in, new shocks in the front, serpentine belt, 90,000 mile service, etc... I spent around 5500 dollars. One month after paying all that money, I now got this new problem which I supposedly fixed 10 months ago @Olsteen Volvo ,Jacksonville (Fl) where they changed o ring kit, chemical gasket, filter insert, plain gasket,...

OK, So I bought this '99 S80 2.9 Auto w/ ~70k on it. Now I am @ 153k miles and along the way have done the following:

ABS rebuild (sent out, inexpensive and effective)
New tranny (Local mechanic was kind, under 3K total for everything)
Battery
An ignition coil
V-belt
regular tune-ups
always syn oil, K&N air filter, best stuff I can get
Ignition...

drove 150 miles, on the m4, mostly at 80 and 30l of urban driving got 8.8p a mile. Drove back from Berks, at 70, after tanking in Reading Services and got 8.5p. I don't get it. Following wind, who knows.

The washer pump is fine, but am only getting a slight dribble at the nozzles. I assume there's a blocked filter somewhere, affecting all nozzles including headlamps.

Anyone know where the filter(s) can be found, how to access them, and whether it's fairly easy to clean?

Hi all. A rock cracked my glass bi-xenon headlight cover. Volvo does not sell just the glass, and wants $900.00 bucks just for the assembly...uninstalled. Seems a little steep for a cracked lens.

Previous Volvos over the years 3 V70 T5,s 2 S80 T6,s each vehicle has had them same thing happen when they reach 3 years old. The Battery dies and has to be replaced. Has anybody had the same experiance. Hear in the UK a new battery for a T6 will set you back about £90.00. All comments appreciated.

This question is really not a Volvo question, but is about my 2000 S80. I just had my windows tinted on my car Thursday and I"m not very happy with them. There is like spots in between the glass and tint, it's not water, it looks like it is just a dried up water spots. It looks like crap. Water spots all over. I called the tint shop and they told me that the spots would go away with time....

My 2001 S80 T-6 is acting a little strange. When my turbo kicks in, instead of a constant boost it pulsates. Like a heart beat. Is this normal? I've never owned a turbo. Driven them...but never owned.
