I have a 2000 S80 2.9 non-turbo. THe check Engine light came on so I read the code as P1330. I erased the code and it came back the next time I drove the car. I repalced the spark plugs, cleared the code and the cod ereturned. I erased the code again and it seems to have gone for the moment. My question is, If anyone knowes of anything else I could try or check???

Where is the DVD reader on a 2003 S80? Only had the car one day!

Hopefully my first and last silly question, but I have no idea where the DVD reader is hiding on my S80 2.0T SE. There is no sign off it in the boot, nor under the glovebox, nor under the seats. Anyone know?? No mention of it in the User Guide. Cant find my way home until I find the DVD drive!

Just wondering if there would be a problem with repainting the insides of the S80 headlights. From what I understand they are a reflective surface, however this shouldn't really make a big difference to the output from the actual bulbs, would it?

2000 s80 2.9, everything below the stereo doesn't work ( a/c, seat heater, the orange light for the gear select, the light for the "W" switch, the buttin that drops the rear headrests, the button that unlocks the trunk, the dome lights that are button operated and the moon roof) i checked all the fuses and non of them are blow is there anybody on here that could help me out?

Hi all, new member here, the name is dylan... anyways I dont understand, after looking through some photos in the 'garage' section and why do some 99 s80s not have the headlight wipers (i.e. the white s80 of username 99s80) but mine does and many ive seen do have wipers on their headlights (which are so useless, right?? correct me if im wrong...) below is the picture..

i have an 02' S80 75th anniversary edition that suddenly does not allow the power sunshade to go up. i have checked the fuse and it is fine. any other suggestions? much appreciation in advance

I bought an 99 s80 2 years ago and everything seemed okay for two years or so I thought. Recently the check engine light came on and I ignored it as the performance has not changed but when I took to get it smogged they would not because they said I needed to get this fixed first. So to an authorized Volvo repair facility I went, with a good attituded hoping I could learn something new about my stylish vehicle. Well my heart was broken when he told he he would have to replace the o2 sensors 4 at $280 a piece and the cadilidiac converters 2 at 1500 a piece. And that this would not guarantee that the problem would be solved. So I can spend 4k plus to get this car smogged and registered, but then I wanted to find value on this vehicle and it is only about $5-6k. So spending 4k with no promises sounds foolish to me. So I have a dilemma. What should I do with this car that still looks and runs good but can not pass smog? It does not spuu out smoke or have any other signs of poor performance besides the check engine and emmision service require message.

Should I just take it to the junk yard?

Should I sell it in another state where smog is not required?

Does anybody else have any suggestions?

I am the original owner of a '99 S80. As you may have guessed, I am a glutton for punishment to have owned it all these years. It has been a service nightmare! I anticipate selling it (if I can) in the next month or 2.

My current problem is that my sunroof is stuck in the open position. When I attempt to shut it, the motor doesn't seem to engage at all. This has happen twice before. In both prior situations, after a couple of days (not hours), it magically worked again. Obviously there is something in the electrical system that requires it to reset after much time.

We are heading into some rainy days and I am not near my normal mechanic. Does anyone have any idea how I might be able to get this fixed? The last person I paid to fix this problem last could not fix it.

I should tell you that for the last few months I have been ignoring the "Alarm System Service Required" message that I get every time I start the car. I could care less if the alarm works.

i bought a 99 s80 2.9 from a salvage auction and had an independant mechanic fix it all for me, except for the blown front airbags....The car was hit on the front drivers side and had damage front the front drivers corner to halfway down the drivers door....The front bumper, hood, drivers fender and drivers door were all replaced....Now I would like to replace the blown dash and two front airbags but am not sure what other components I will need besides the airbags, stuff like sensors, computers...etc....I will have a mechanic do this for me but I want to find used parts myself to save $$ cause this car is costing me too much already.... can the computer be reset or do i have to purchase another, and can i use used components or do i have to buy new? (I have very little knowledge on airbags).

Can someone please give me a list of parts I will need to replace the front airbags? Also what work will the mechanic need to do, just so I know that I'm not getting scammed by the mechanic?

Well I was so looking forward to the purchase of a 1998 S80 T6 which I drove last week. After reading through the threads on the forum however I have started to pull back my desire to buy this car. From what it sounds like, the S80's have no end of problems with this and that going wrong.

I knew that might be a problem when it dawned on me that to replace the rear-view mirror is going to cost me at least $1200 + the software $150 + the labour. So let's just $1500 to spend on a newly acquired used car. This is not a good way to start. This was supposed to be saving me money.

The dealer doesn't do warranties, and the network we have in Australia would only do it through authorised dealers (which the place I am dealing with doesn't).

Have I read things wrong, or is it simply just a don't go there, don't buy the car and see it later. Look for something a little more reliable?

Any comments are welcome.

well tonight i close my rear door, and hear a loud breaking sound like glass broke. didnt think much of it till my window slid down while i was driving. so i had to rig it up with some cardboard to make it stay up. i hit the switch later when i have more time to check it out, and i hear the motor working, along with a weird clicking sound, but the window only pulses....not moving up or down. so later, i go roll the passenger rear window down, and it makes the same clicking noise. it takes a few seconds for the motor to catch the window, then it looks like it falls off track. i go to roll it up and i get the same delayed catch and then it stop as if its stuck. BOTH in the SAME NIGHT! back to back. what the hell did i do to deserve that? so, my question to you all is.....what can i do to fix it without breaking the bank (if possible) im still in school. anyone have a diagnosis for the windows or what could potentially be wrong?

I know early model S80s are known for having many issues, but I also know some work just fine. I came across a 2000 S80 2.9L with around 140,000 miles for only $5,400. The car looks very clean in the pictures, but I still don't know...Does anyone with a 2000 S80 recommend getting it? Is it worth the repairs if they come across in the future? It's hard not to consider a car with so many features at such a low price - for $5,400 you usually come across crappy hondas or old cars with clothe interiors and only 1 airbag...

i have a 1999 s80 2.9 with the following issues:

- rough idle / choking / loss of power
- black smoke
- rotten egg smell
- engine requires urgent service and emission service required codes coming up
- cylinder #5 not working (tested by swapping coils)
- strong gas smell from under hood, looks like maybe leaking gas, i guess due to cylinder #5 not working

If the car hasn't ran for a while then it runs good for a bit and all of a sudden it starts running rough and I get all of the above symptoms. I tried putting in new spark plugs and it's still the same and it does not appear to be a bad coil pack as I did the coil swap test.

I had to rewire the headlights on this car and I may have done a bad job, is it possible that it could be a bad ground?

Is it possible that a throttle body software update or a ECM software update could resolve these issues? Could it be that the computer is bad and sending wrong signals?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I am planning to replace the keyless entry fobs on my '01 S80 - one is literally coming apart, while the other already came apart and lost it's rubber button piece. Fortunately, I do not need to replace the circuit boards so I can get away with a couple ten dollar replacements from eBay. No reprogramming necessary.

Before I make the purchase, I'd like to know if there's any method of using an '03 or later fob (the switchblade style, where the key and fob are one) on my car. I favor this design.

Does anyone know the feasibility of doing this; are there any technical reasons it would be impossible?

I have a 2000 S80 T6, yesterday when I got the oil change for the car in the dealer, the mechanic found the following problems:
Turbo return line seals ( told It's leaking )
Steering rack ( told it's leaking )
Alignment
Before I went to the dealer, I know the car has ABS fault, but it seems like getting worse, the above repairs cost me over $2,000, it is way too much, do I have to solve all the problems, or just keep driving as usual? If I have to get all the repairs, is there any other way to lower the cost rather than the dealer?

I have an 06 S80 with RTI and want to add the 10 Disc changer myself. The dealer is saying that if you have RTI you can't have the changer, it is one or the other. I think they are wrong, any help with this?

Secondly, if I can put the changer in, where do I get power from? I don't see a power cord in the trunk??

Lastly, when I take my foot off the gas while driving the car hesitates almost every time? I am not traveling fast but just normal speed, 35-45??? Any info would be greatly appreciated?

What exactly must be removed to get to the spark plugs on a S80 T6..
It appears w/o the Twin Charger Turbo, removal of the black cover plate is about all, although w/the Turbo, how much of the tubes, etc., must be removed..Is there a standard procedure and/or special tools needed..?? Many Thanks

I have a 1999 Volvo S80 T6 Auto here in Dubai, that a firend of mine is interested in converting into a track car (as she (yes... she!) is a professional driving instructor). She already has access to some ond BTCC S80 parts I believe and has much more knowledge about these things than me however I would like to help if I can. So could you advise on the following:

1. Is it possible to convert the car to manual?
2. If so what parts would she need?
3. Anyone know the gearbox codes and other models that use this manual gearbox?
4. Anyone got one and willing to part with it for sensible dosh?

Apologies if some of these questions seem basic but I am no expert myself. Furthermore, this is a genuine project under consideration and your expertise would be greatly appreciated.

so number 1:
Whats the difference between a turbo control valve, a wastegate, and a dumpgate. If there is a difference between anyone of these, could someone explain. I've seen some posts that the turbo control valve causes some problems similar to my own, and i just want to be clear before i replace it. I also want to know what a wastegate/dumpgate is because i heard that if you replace this part, it makes your car sound different when it shifts gears, i guess like a blowoff valve. I really want to change this part cause i like the sound that it makes haha. sound like such a kid....maybe its cause im only 23??

My car has recently needed coolant every 3-4 weeks. no water collecting under the floor mats, just needs some coolant every once in a while. Possible leak? Burning out/evaporation? should i let my engine cool at idle for a longer period of time?

number 3:
what does a typical maintenence on my cars turbo's include? how much would it cost? is it hard? Also, if i wanted to clean my own throttle body is it hard to do?? i know its expensive to get done, but i dont want to have to reset any codes or anything like that after. i know when i owned my mustang it was as simple as 2 hoseclamps and a can of throttle body cleaner. i KNOW it cant be that easy. haha.

I have S80 diesel and manufacture warranty is coming to an end i.e. 2004 registration. Volvo UK are asking for £600 for extending the warranty for all components encept for wear & tear ones.

Whereas Warranty Direct are asking for £350.

The question is:

- given the age of the car, is it worth taking extended warranty?
- is it worth taking Volvo one or a 3rd party given an old addage of "you pay for what get.."

For some reason the RTI screen on my 03 S80 is failing to pop-up. The system is active because if I press the "enter" button on the wheel I get the standard "no destination is set" message from the speakers. Nothing has been changed to removed...

Could this be a simple fuse or relay? I'd like to see if it's, erm, user fixable, before donating my salary to Volvo!

I've done a search and can't find anything simmilary so appologies if that has been covered before.

Montclair NJ Volvo stealership is not able to fix our 2000 S80 Volvo with 73k miles. We brought it in for scheduled service 1 .5 weeks ago. The display said there was something wrong with oil pressure. We brought the car back for service. The stealership said the engine was clogged with oil. They are still not able to fix it and are saying we need a new engine at 73k miles???

Is this for real? How can a newer car need a new engine at 73k miles. What should we do?

Any help is much appreciated. We have been maintaining this car religiously as per manufacturers spec. We bought it as a certified preowned from this stealership 4 years ago with 31,000 miles. This sounds bizarre.

S80 2K; Check Engine light is staying on but there are no messages as to what the problem could be, is there a way to clear?

I either burned a valve or broke the #3 cylinder-either way, Stealer is telling me the #3 hole is dead. Stealer wants $2700 to fix it. To my dismay, I'm so upside down on the car that they won't even take it as a trade-in. My local boneyard has a 2001 engine off a T6 they're offering me for a really good deal, but they don't know for sure whether it's the same. Per VADIS, it's the same number for the engine (B6284T). Can someone tell me for sure whether it will work on my 99? Thanks.

I just found a working Auto Dim mirror to replace my bad one on my S80. All the numbers off the mirror match up perfectly. My question is, are they able to be swaped out without having to download software or does every mirror have start up software making it impossible to change out rear views with used ones?

My stacker has died . it wont give me my cds back and makes noises and reads cd error. checked with stealership who asked if i used burnt cds. i saisd there were 2 in the unit. was told volvo wont cover warramty as burnt cds are slighter thicker than retail ones?? anyone know if this is true as i have used them in plenty of otrher players. is there any documentation on how to get to the unit? how do you remove the centre dash area where radio is?
also if i use a second hand unit , will it still work with the volvo software.?

I want to put a radio from a 2001 or later S80 into my 99, mainly for the IPOD hookup. Does anyone know if that will work. Please let me know.

I have a non-iPod MP3 player. Has anyone managed to attach a stereo miniplug? I would like to have a direct attachment, rather than an FM transmitter (lo-fi and staticky) or a cassette adapter (noisy).

Ever since having a new transmission installed (OUCH!!) a few weeks ago, I have intermittently been having my low beam headlights go out. It sometimes happens, sometimes not. It occurs when I start the car not after the car is already started. My mechanic did diagnostics but no error codes came up for problems with the headlights. He installed a new relay hoping that would help, but tonight I started the car and no lights again. I drove home with high beams on and after about three miles, my low beams miraculously came on by themselves. My mechanic is telling me the only other thing it could be is the module ($$$$!!). I find it hard to believe this problem coincidentally started immediately after having the new transmission installed. Anyone experience this or have any low-cost solutions?

I've just got into the s80 life and see that there are a lot of issues. heres hoping i dont suffer the fate of many of you. My question is how do you test to see if the autodim mirror works and what is it supposed to do? when i drive and car headlights shine nothing seems to happen? the mirror looks ok. it has an oval section in the middle. is there a fuse for this. nay info would be great.

Hi - just joined the Volvo fraternity with a 2004 S80..works great, except my center dash vents are "off track" and don't move side to side with the center tab. I can see how to fix, but I can't get the vent assembly off the dash - any help???

So I have a strange issue with the transmission. It seems to have problems shifting on hills. When I'm going slow, around 30mph on a hill, it wont shift up ... it just seems stuck in the second to last gear (high revs, whine).

Today driving to the mall, again up an incline, I was accelerating very quickly when the same issue occured, only at around 70mph-ish. Has anyone seen this before? Am I going crazy? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

I had the timing belt and tensioner replaced and I had the dealer check for minor oil leak and power steering noise. Recomendation is: Power steering pump $625, oil trap seal $600 and twin turbo seal $475. The car has 105k miles, Should I shop around for non dealer repair shop with possible less cost?

This is the second month I've owned my 2002 S80 T6. I purchased it with 67 K+ miles on it. warranted until 100K or 12 more months which ever is first. I've driven 3,600 miles+/-. Great clean car!

This is what I've had worked on in 2 months:

Rear Bumper, Passenger mirror repaird and new key, front running light bulb and registration tag light bulb replaced under "we owe" agreement with dealer.

Rear left passenger seat belt receiver replaced under warranty.

Oil change at dealership at 70,000K miles. Oil was very dirty looking. I was told the 67.5K maintenance was completed prior to purchase. (Got in writing) After I got home, thirty miles from dealership, noticed a drip of oil from underbody shield. I thought perhaps they spilled a little oil on the shield. Waited several days. Oil looked too fresh on carport. Lifted car and removed shield and found two of several bolts missing from shield and oil plug was hand tight only! Miffed about this.

I purchased coin holder for center console - seems to accept euros - does volvo make a US version? Bought IPD license (registration) plate handle and removed the plastic frame advertsing the dealership. Great addition don't have to touch the car paint or trunk top to close. Any suggestion for removing the dealership vinyl advertisment they stuck to my trunk lid?

Here's my real problem...Last night went for extended mountainous drive from NC into VA and ran into foul weather. Remnants of extreme thunderstorm and several inchs of hail on the ground which I fortunately missed. Leaves all over the road and steam rising from the melting ice. Had to use the fog lights front and rear to see at a crawl. The south bound lanes of 220 in VA were at a stand still due to accidents. After about ten minutes I got the bulb failure message. I can't figure out which bulb is the problem. Two strikes against or for me - using lights I've not used before and moisture. Can anyone provide some suggestions to diagnose the culprit bulb? Moisture seems to be a problem from other posts of the dreaded bulb failure... Should I systematically check each bulb and socket reinserting with bulb grease? That would take forever. Need some suggestions.

Any other things I should look for to cover under warranty while I can take advantage of it?
