Hello everyone. I am new to the forum and looking for advice on installing an after-market bluetooth hands-free phone system in my 2007 S80 V8. I've heard bad things about having the dealer do it, and not sure I want to risk $600-700 for a potential lemon. I am looking at the Parrot CK3200 system, which looks pretty nice. I was wondering if anyone has tried installing any kind of BT system in a 2007 S80 (other than the Volvo system)? Thanks!

We own a 2007 s80 with 60k on it. While driving 95 through NC to Fl the warning light for an elictrical failure came on. I immediately exited thinking the alternator was going and did not want to be stranded. The vehicle completely lost power a few miles later. I called the local volvo and advised I needed an alternator. They looked at it the next morning and told me that one of the battery cells had died and it just needed a new battery. They ran 45 minutes worth or diagnostics and came up with no other codes. I left and went about a half a mile and the battery light came on. I went immediately back and they hooked it back up the the comp and advised that the alternator was shot. Am I being ripped off here on the battery part? I'd also like to know why I knew it was the alt. and I'm not even a mechanic. Can a bad battery even take out an alternator?

Recently purchased a 2007 S80 V8 AWD (yesterday 071810). During causal driving the "low oil level" message appeared. Checked the oil and it was a quart low. Added oil and car ran fine. Got home and a few hours later went to check oil (just in case) and there was this whining coming from the engine compartment. No air was blowing into the cabin and the engine was hot. Pulled the car out of the garage, once shut off the whining stopped. Opened hood and left it that way, still no whining sound. Shut the hood and the whining started again. Started car, parked in the garage, and no whining. It appears to be coming from behind the engine near the drivers side. Please help. Should I bring it back (I have five days to return car without penalty). Called dealer where I purchased, and I will be bringing it to my local Volvo dealer, they will be paying and repair costs, and for a loaner.

Hey everyone

I have had my 08 S80 now for 3 months. I have had an intermittant problem that the dealership cannot replicate and the mechanic has not seen this issue yet.

Does anyone else find that the power steering on their S80 sporadically get really tight after starting the car? To the point it feels like the power steering is gone? I am finding that, with an unknown pattern, after starting the car it just feels like it doesn't work. Then, if I just turn off and then re-start the car, it is perfectly fine.

I cannot find a pattern yet on how to replicate it with any consistency.

I am hoping that someone else has seen this and maybe has some insight on why it does it so I can work with the dealership to get it fixed. The computer doesn't show any error codes so they don't even know where to start.

My 2008 S80 started having a front suspension clunking noise at around 10,000 miles when hitting road bumps. It was more noticable on driver's side and got progressively worse.

I took it to the local Volvo dealer at 13,000 miles. They heard the noise and ackowledged a problem. The mechanic spent four hours test driving the car and using some type of stethoscope device to listen for a worn part. He said it was a loose ball joint and tightened up all moving parts.

It seemed okay after leaving dealer, but the noise returned 2000 miles later. Now at 20,000 miles it is louder than ever. Any insight on the potential problem before I go back to the dealer and insist on a closer look?

I have a 12 month old S80 bouught new here in Australia. The car is absolutely fantastic but the Management Computer Module[?] has to be replaced [under warranty] because of a known fault affecting the radio and park assist. Mine is a 3.2 AWD madel and it does not have the option of a digital speed readout in the dash which the owners handbook suggests is available on some models. Mine only gives a digital speed for the cruise control setting.

Does anyone know if the system on my car can be tweeked when the module is replaced to give me that facility? Particularly here in Vitoria where our politicians and highway patrol are obsessed with speeding it would be a great help.

ALso, does anyone here in Aus have any recommendations for a replacement for the Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's? Great tyre but zero sidewall protection and wear rates are quite high. Don't really need a ZR rated tyre in Vic either with a 110 max speed limit. Most driving is on country coarse chip bitumen. Any suggestions welcome.

hey everyone. Im stuck between either the 3.0L duratec or the SI6 T6. I was wondering how long is the motor? also how much horsepower can this motor hold before needed forged internals. Im looking to do a motor swap on a ford ranger and was wondering about this. I would love a I6 but not many I6 motors will fit without serious modification. im hoping to run around 400-450whp. not sure if that is reasonable with these motors. Thanks for any help you can provide.

have a 2000 model s80 TDI

the dasg has completely packed up no lights no clock nothing
and at the same time it has taken out all the heater controls almost as though the power has been cut from the dashboard down but all the radio tv and sat nav work (presumably on a different circuit) it briefly came back on again as did all the heater controls
however it is now totally dead

with winter closing n fast in the UK I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what might be wrong with the dash
volvo have quoted £1000 for a new dash and fitting and a local guy thinks he can fix it for about £350

however the dash I can live without all I really want to do is set the heaters to hot and on the windscreen so I can clear it lol

but if I can fix the lot it would be good

Just thought I would post this update on here. Many Blackberry 8900 users have been commenting that whilst they can link their phones to the Volvo bluetooth car kit to make and receive calls, the cars radio display would only ever show callers phone numbers and not stored address book names. I have just received the latest Blackberry / Vodafone device update and one of the fixes has been the names now show up on the radio display from my phones address book.

Been an ongoing problem that would appear to be fixed by RIM.

Just bought a 2007 S80 with under 15K miles. The car is in excellent shape and everything is great except one thing: the last few times I've driven the car, the blower for the climate control will not come on. It shows that the blower is being increased/decreased on the display, but no air is being forced from the vents. Initially I thought it could be something simple like a fuse, but the fan will start to work after driving for a few miles or hitting a hard bump such as railroad tracks. When the car is shut off and restarted, the fan will not work just like before and must be coaxed into working again.

The air is ice cold and obviously working, just no fan.

Any idea what this could be?

It is still under factory warranty, but the dealer is 40 miles away and I would love to fix it myself if at all possible (simple).

FYI,I am planning to make a down payment of $20,000 and financing the rest.

My questions are:

#1: Is it good deal with offered pricing, $23,563? (KBB/NADA: $25,000)
#2: Should I ask for more?
(I only asked for a better price ONCE, and it is the price the sales guy gave me. Approx. $500 less than listing price. I didn't ask more.)
#3: Do you recommend this model?
(As mid-30 years old guy, I never imagined myself buying Volvo, but now changed after giving it an overnight test drive)

I am a first time volvo owner, a 2008 s80. It's my wife's car but I get to ride in it on special occasions, and of course also take care of the maintenance issues. I had the oil changed at a local quick change, and have no idea how to reset the service reminder that comes on every time the car is started. A call to the dealer (over an hour drive away), told me the dealer has to make the reset for a charge of $20, on top of the drive. Does anyone know if I can purchase software and interface cable and make the reset myself? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

I have the sport option with bi-zenon HLs and am not able to figure out how to use the switch to have the HLs off during the day. the settings on the left and right seem to not turn off the HLs when it is daylight. the setting in the center leaves only running lights and does not turn off when the car is shut down. the instructions in the manual are not clear . can anyone help?

Ce problème de connexion ne se résoud pas, les appels restent sur le PDA et ne passe que rarement sur les haut-parleurs de la voiture. Si vous faites un reset du HTC et arrêter la voiture et recommencer toute la procédure, le Carkit fonctionne quelque temps et puis les problèmes recommencent. Seul la synchronisation des contacts fonctionnent. Les versions Bluetooth de volvo et HTC ne sont pas 100% compatibles et pourtant ces deux marques sont des "MUST".
Je ne comprends pas que des tests ne soient pas réalisés par les constructeurs!!!

I just bought a new 2009 S80 with the Convenience Package - upgraded sound system. I've had the car for 3 days now: love it. Yesterday, I turned the radio on and it was extremely distorted. Not random noise, but directly related to the music or speaking voice on the radio. It was so bad that it was almost impossible to understand the announcer. Same distortion when I selected the CD, or AM/FM radio. I turned the stereo off and back on a few times with no change, switched FM/AM/CD with no change. When I got home after about 30 minutes, it was still doing this. After turning off the engine and restarting the car, it was back to normal. Anybody else seen this? I asked at the dealership, but they deny having heard about it. Not much to do unless it does it again and I can get to the dealership while it is still happening.

BTW, allow me to introduce myself: I owned a '66 P1800 for many years and totally rebuilt the engine with a bunch of IPD upgrades, gearbox, suspensions. My wife is on her 3rd Volvo. She had an old 240 before I knew her, and she bought a new 245 in 1989, and sold it and bought a new S80 in 2004 that she still has.

I had a 1999 Mercedes E430 for about 6 years prior to totaling it in a wreck last week. I'm stoked about the new S80. It has the BLIS option, Climate Pkg and Convenience Pkg.

I recently bought the new volvo s80 D5 fully accessoried and, to my surprise, the OEM bluetooth phone did not pair with my nokia n80. I tried with the old 6600 and still have a lot of problems. It seems that my bluetooth only works with a couple of models of very old nokia and motorola. I was promised a software update in a month or so but no news yet.
Anybody can help????

I have had my S80 v8 for a two years, and have had several problems with the car, and one by one the dealership is sorting them out. But there is one thing that the dealership still cannot solve.

5 months ago I noticed that when accelerating the steering whell tends to turn right about 15degrees and consequently car is going off the road. After a coupel weeks this problem started to appear even when driving at normal highway speeds. So now for the last several months I have to hold the wheel tight and have to adjust the wheel to the left every time I push the accelerator a bit harder.

Three months ago the dealership replaced linkages on both sides. But the problem is still there. Morevoer, I can feel that some part in the steering system is seriously wearing out as lately I can feel noises and cracking sound and play on the steering wheel.

The annoying thing is that my warranty is now running out and they still cannot find the problem. They say still waiting recommendations from the Volvo factory as this problem is found in severla S80 2g models across all types of engines.

Does anyone find that sort of problem on their S80?

Just purchased an 09 S80 3.2, pick it up wednesday- son will get the 99 S80 w/201K.
sales manager offered extended warranty 6 yr/100K for $2244. did not ask what deductable was, but will.

I know the discussion about is it worth it, but my real question is "are their dealers who offer it at a slight markup rather than full price. Not interested in an "insurance" company warranty- if I get one it'll be w/Volvo

Bought a Ford warranty sometime back- paid $1100 to a ford dealer rather than the advertised $1900.

Most of my neighbors are telling me to get the bmw 3-series. I also have friends that suggested porsche 911. Im curious to see what you Porsche lovers would say to this. Give me some opinions! Hi everyone! I am looking for some parts for my Volvo s80 2007. I've checked the prices in the dealerships, and I hope to find some of them cheaper - used (second hand) or aftermarket. I need:
1. Airbags - drivers and passangers
2. All seatbelts
3. Radiator
4. Condenser A/C
5. Front bumper
6. Fog lights
7. Frame (crossmember)

Curious if the issue is unique to my 2007 S80 - although I have noticed it on the same model that I used as a loaner car. Two things about the seat belt warnings:

Driver: The warning comes on (audible and lighted instrument panel indicator) for approx. 6 seconds and that is all - even if never buckle or you unbuckle the belt while underway (e.g. getting toll booth change from your pocket) the warning is not ever activated again.

Passenger: The warning in the overhead panel above the rearview mirror does not come on at all with an unbuckled passenger in the seat and the ignition on or the car underway - either to warn to buckle from he outset or if the belt is unbuckled while underway.

No other Volvo I have ever driven (or any other car, for that matter) has such an abbreviated/non-functioning seat-belt warning set-up. My Volvo retailer, who has been aware of the problem for about 4 months now, tells me that Volvo has no plans to address the problem?

Does anyone else have the same situation in their 2007 S80?

A real puzzler for a car from the company that invented the 3-point seat belt system!

Hey all:Hope you are doing well. I need some help. My 2002 S80 T6 tires are all worn out and need replaced (63K miles on them, they are looking a mite bit bald). I was looking at tirerack.com and their recommended tire is the Michelin HX/MXM4 225 50 VR17. A cool tire except that its $200 per tire.

So does anyone have a good tire to recommend? One that is still good in the performance category, but maybe a few dollars cheaper? Even $175 to $180 could be palatable...

I don't know if anyone else has come across this, but when I turn on the Rear Window Heater in my 2008 S80, the radio reception on FM goes way down. This has only happened recently - it was working fine. When I turn off the heater, the reception improves again.

It's covered under the warranty, but the dealer has to get a repair kit in to fix it - either that or replace the back window. Has anyone else had this happen? I'd rather not have any patch up job done, but I'm not so keen on replacing the back window either.

If anyone has details on what cause this or how they repair it, I'd be interested to know

Have new S80 with approx 3500 miles always garaged when not in use. Have noticed drivers seat leather is cracking and chipping on seat bolster and back bolster outer side. This is very disapointing to me to have this happen so soon in a new car. I just sold my 2000 Lexus and the leather didnt look this bad and the car had 125,000 miles on it. Has anyone else noticed this premature cracking in the leather? I havent been back to the dealer yet but would like some feedback from other owners who have had this issue. Thanks

I am having a major problem with Starting and Stopping the car. The worst part is that it's intermittent. When I push the Start/Stop Button the car will not shut off and the key won't eject. Volvo first told me they needed to file down the Shift cable because it wasn't going into Park all the way. After that didn't work they said that it had to be the Sirius Radio that I had installed. We disconnected that and it is still doing the same thing. Any help would be appreciated. Also there were a few times when the engine did shut off the key ejected and the accessories stayed on and killed the battery! Thanks Ken

I came in today to have the Sirius Radio Package installed. 3 hours later I received a call fromthe Service Department, saying that since the car was not "factory" pre-wired for satellite radio, they could not install the radio. Since I only listen to satellite," you can imagine my frustration, when I was told there was absolutely nothing that they could do about it. Since the car comes with a satellite antenna, and a radio that is satellite ready, you would think that wiring it would make sense. Especially considering that the lack of a $10 (their cost) wire, prevents them from selling a $400 option. Volvo North America said that almost every S 80 is ordered with that option, unfortunately mine wasn't. In hindsight I'd wish I had been aware of the problem, as I may have chosen a car that was equipped with the wire. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this done, other than getting an aftermarket radio installed. Thanks in advance for your help. Ken

As an owner of a 2007 S80 3.2 for almost 4 months now, I have a few questions that I thought I would post in case other owners have answers. My Volvo retailer and my web research in this forum and other sources have been unproductive with respect to the following.

1. Some of the messages for the drivers information display seem to be undocumented in my owners manual - and as far as I can tell in the 2008 owners manual too. A “Fill Washer Fluid” message recently happened. Nice reminder, but not mentioned in my manual. (Nor the snowflake icon that shows up when the outside temperature is in the mid-30s or lower. What is the significance beyond another indication the outside temperature is brisk?) In any case I’m curious if anyone has a list of the other messages and their meanings that are undocumented that may crop up depending on conditions with the car. (I mean messages somewhat more precise than the “See Manual” one that doesn’t quite give you much to go on with a 250+ page manual.)

2. There is a gas pedal engine or transmission feedback a few seconds after starting the car in D. It is a couple quick mechanical sensations felt in the gas pedal. What is that? Curious about how that happens in a “fly-by-wire” system. It happens to my S80 as well as couple S80 loaners I used.

3. What is the purpose of the round button hook? on the driver’s side of the passenger seat headrest?

4. Any advice on knowing when the car has reached “normal operating temperature”. Since a couple places in the Owner’s Manual suggest not doing things like revving the engine until that condition is reached what is the “best practice” to follow in a car with no coolant temperature gauge? Drive for 5 minutes at 2000 RPM max?
