Can anyone suggest a suitable make and modelof child seat (Group 0+ 1) that properly fits in a rearwards facing position, the new shape V70? I have just tried a BebeConfort Iseos TT and it refuses to fit safely when rearwards facing mode, for really young babies. I'd be pleased to hear from any parents in the UK also and hear what they chose. It's a real minefield!

I've had my V70 for 5 years, an excellent car. Unfortunately, recently it has become very lumpy when I turn it on, this is especially worse in very cold weather. For example, the other day it felt like it had a spark plug off!! There is also a noticable lack of general power at the lower speed -any ideas??

I'm kinda new in here but if anyone with the suggestion would be great. I have my 1998 Volvo V70 GLT timing belt and tensioner changed at 66000 miles but i did not have my mechanic replace the water pump since it's not showing any sign of leaking, this is what i was told by my mechanic. He told me, my second timing belt change than i should change all three part ( belt, water pump and tensioner). So is this a good mechanic or not i don't know ... they only specialize in Volvo..so i figure i take their word for it. Any comment or suggestion ... Thanks

After inserting a cd, in the 3 cd cassette, into my CD player, it didn't play and when I tried to eject, after much whirring of gears and movement of the cassette I got an error message 'Error 2 CD 3'. Anyone got any idea what this means..and how easy or espensive it might be to fix.

The CD player is the Volvo CD / Radio / Tape combo unit.

I am currently running a V70 D5 SE. I have owned volvo estates since 1979 with the later models having the luxury of heated front seats. When compared with friends and relative's cars with heated seats I never feel that mine get as hot, for example I have never found the need to have the switch set to its first setting only, always the higher.
I am conviced that I have read somewhere that the temperature setting of the thermostat may be adjusted (by your dealer of course) but I am at a loss to know how.

Also I am not conviced that the heated lumbar panel always comes on at all.

The question therefore is does anyone out there know how?

I just bought a V70 SE 2.5L 1998, which i'm really happy with. Apart from the loud screech I hear for a second or two every time I accelerate in first gear.
This noise doesn't happen at low revs, but only when I want to accelerate with higher revs, i.e up a hill.

Has anyone experienced this noise before, or have ideas of the cause?

I am located in Thailand and just bought a second hand V70 year 2000 (the "squarish one"). Volvo assembles its cars locally for the Asian market and this one comes with a 2.3 liter (2319 cc) 5 cylinders low pressure turbo engine.

My questions:

1) Is the 2.3 liter turbo engine standard in Europe/America? I only read about 2 liter, 2.4 liter and 2.5 liter engines in this forum.

2) I am 182 cm (5' 12'') tall and I cannot move the driver's seat far enough to the rear. Do you also face this problem with the cars assembled in Europe/America? Is it possible to move the fixation points of the seat around 5 or 10 cm to the rear?

3) The ETS light turns on from time to time. The Volvo service guy told me that this is because of an ABS sensor that needs to be changed (cost around THB 2500 or USD 50). Can anybody confirm? Is this a usual problem with this model? How serious is it?

4) The car is quite low for local road conditions. Is it possible to higher it by around 5 cm e.g., by changing the suspension springs? Other way?

I would appreciate your answers/comments even about one single question.

Since over two month I read messages in this forum, espacially the ones about ETS. Many members ask about the reason why the ETS light shows from time to time and answers are always about gas sensors, cleaning or changing them, with cost of around USD 1,000.-

I got the "ETS symptom" - and this is why I started to look messages in this forum. I also posted a question about it but did not get feedback. Nevertheless, my experience may be of interess for others.

ETS light can also turn on because of ABS sensors! That was the dignosis of the local VOLVO shop and it was correct. I changed one ABS sensor (around USD 50.-) and everytging is ok yet.

To Tech:
1) Please mention this to future members who ask about the ETS light.
2) Can you explain how ABS is related to the Electronic Throttle System?

I am in the market for a used s70 (98-00) I have found a lot of vehicles in the price range i plan to spend 7500.00 max. I have read a lot of reviews and know what i am to look for but have one question that may seem silly.

On a high end for milage with the S70 or volvo's for that matter, how many miles do these things get in a lifetime if maintained well?

I ask because obviosly I am not going to be getting a warranty and i have seen several with low milage for the price i want to spend, but i do not want to rule out something with 80+ if the life expectancy if maintained well ( I stress maintained well) is higher than normal.

I have asked a few people and for the most part they tell me volvo is a good solid relaible safe car and will last a long long time if you maintain the vehicle.

I would appreciate any advice that you may have to offer.

RE: 99 S70, At times I must be right in front of the car for the remote to work. I have changed the battery with no results, any ideas.

Our 1999 v70 (based in damp and not very cold Devon UK) has been a poor cold starter all along. Not every time - but enough to be worrying. I have mentioned this to the dealers but they say everthing is fine.

I wonder if anyone else has a similar experience and has found our what the problem is ? I'd be grateful for any suggestions

Over the last few months I've noticed it takes a lot of pedal travel to engage the brakes on my V70GLT. Could this be a due to a vacuum leak, a defective ABS module, or something more serious? I've had the brakes bled and it didn't improve the problem. When you pump the brakes once or twice in close intervals there is less pedal travel required. Any help would be great!

My S70 has been making wierd noises when I've been turning. Like a loud rusty noise, sometimes like a vibrating whack sound. I checked the power steering and thats not even close to needing to be refilled. Any gueses?

hi to everyone this is my first visit and i wonder if any one has had this problem;the drivers door lock locks with all the other locks using the remote fob and then unlocks itself again,i can lock it manually.any ideas??., the car is a facelift model year2000.

I have a 98 s70 with 96k miles on it. I was just informed by the dealer the engine is blown because the belt tensioner failed and the top end of the engine needs to be replaced for an estimated $4K. The car had the t-belt changed at 70K miles. The delaer never mentioned the tensioner before. Help I do not know if i SHOULD PUT $4K INTO A 98 WITH 96k MILES.

I would like to know:

a) Bolt pattern for the V70
Max wheel width
c) Max tire width
d) Max diameter/circ. of the tire
e) Wheel Offset

Any information on this would be most helpful.

I just purchased a V70, this will be my first Volvo. The reason for the purchase is that we are expecting our first child, and as a car with a great track record for safety I thought that this will be a safer car to satrt with.

I am new to this site and would appreciate your thoughts. I have recently been informed that a leak in the cooling system is from a crack in the engine. In order to find the leak, it is necesary to remove the manifold (a $600 job). Originally the dealership thought it was a leaky head gasket. If only!! The temportry solution is cleaning the area and filling the crack with a heat resistant epoxy. Best guess is a 50% chance of long tern success. A couple of questions. Does anyone know if cracks in 1998 S-70 engine bloc could be a manufacturing defect? Have there been repair bulletins regarding this problem? Any thoughts on where to get a new engine w/o breaking the bank?

Right now l have a a 2002 V40 wagon and really enjoy it because of the gas mileage, room and being agile. Even though it has only 160 hp it eally moves compared with a full size V70. The cargo area in the V40 is almost as big as the V70.

The problem is that my hobby and my dog compels me to pick up a used V70 for the extra back seat room and being a little larger in the rear cargo area as far as depth with the back seats down.

This will be a third car.

What l need to know is after what l have read is that the 2000 is a better choice but does it come with a lot of cons.

My V40 has several bugs but l have learned to live with them.

Which is the better engine forgetting gas mileage. I have a corvette so speed is really not the issue and also have a Jaguar X so l do not need AWD which only weighs the car down.

My V70 wagon is running rough at idle and the engine check light is on. The engine dosn't sound like it is running on 4 cylinders just uneven. As soon as it is driven on the road over 2000 rpm it feels fine. I have been advised by the Dealer here in Scotland and by the Volvo Owners Club UK that it could be the Mass Air Flow Meter. Has anyone had the same problem?

I'm looking to replace the rotors and pads on my '00 S70 GLT-SE and I'm skeptical about the pricing my Volvo specialist is giving me. He tells me that Volvo's are sensitive to non-OEM parts. This is fine because I don't like to use cheap-aftermarket parts on my cars. I went online to VLV-world and priced new rotors and pads for front and rear. They sell Brembo or Norbbitt (sp?) rotors and Roulunds pads. All parts for front and rear will cost me a little under $300 USD. The Volvo specialist is quoting me $400 for front rotors, pads (OEM) and labor alone. Is this average or is he trying to give me the shaft? Question #2 is, will the parts from online work just as well on my car or will I have noise/vibration and duration problems? I don't mind spending the money to have peace of mind but if I can get the same performace with the non-OEM parts and save myself a few hundred bucks, I'm game for that too!

I went to get my car emissioned a couple of weeks ago and odb2 sent not ready message on all the non-continuous monitors (catalyst, secondary air system, etc) They told me the shop that this was because I had just replaced the battery and I had to drive the car 100 miles for them to re-scan. 2000 miles later and still the same thing. The wort part is that they will not emission the car until they read ready. Any ideas? Thank you.

This V70 I have is with me for like almost 6 to 7 yrs or so.. but has bin troubling me a lot. Now m taking it to the workshop 4 repairs n awl every second week….  my warranty package wud expire in 4 months now n den it wud be hard to keep such an expensive vehicle… :S. I was thinking to get rid of it but my colleagues say I shud wait until my warranty package expirRes see iF it shows some improvements or not and den go fer a new one.

Hi, can anyone help? have a 99 model v70 t5 which runs with a very slight misfire (well i think it does) - it also lacks the serious pulling power and just lately keeps cutting out. have just had it serviced by volvo dealer who says its running ok but needs new "spark plug leads" ( i told thrm that if they can find them they can fit them). the engine mang light came on 2 days ago - have had it checked today by tuning specialist who plugged into car a got a error code P1618 - which apparently does not exist - he thought engine ecu may be faulty - don't know what to do or where to go - any suggestions????

I found two cars that seems OK in terms of maintenace, wear, price and extras. one of them is from 3-1999 and is about 4000 euros cheaper than the other 10-2000. Is there any improvement in the 2000 model to pay such difference of money??
