Hi Gents,
I checked the archives but may have missed a topic about removing an ignition switch. Mine goes to the first position then stop's dead, any more pressure to get to the start position and I know I'll break the key. Tried a little lube but that didn't help at all. I'm sure it's a mechanical type problem. Is there any special trick to getting the switch out?

Hey hows it goin just bought a 99 volvo xc70 awd. Lookin for a little advice. It's got auto leveling rear suspension according to the codes on the fender and the shocks in back need to be replaced but I don't want to spend $500 on each new strut. I heard That i can switch it from auto leveling any advice and what parts codes do I need thanks.

Can some body tell me if a propeller shaft is the same as a rear shaft?
I need a propeller shaft can someone help me find this part besides the dealership?

My husband and I just purchased a 1998 S70 GLS looks great ran great the first 2 days while it was cold. Then on Tuesday on my way to work it overheated. My husband was with me and when we pulled in there was a trail of Yellow looking latex paint following us. So he cleaned everything up and let the engine cool down. He decided to try to drive it to work and take it to the dealer and have them tell us what was wrong with it. Well he got up the road maybe 2 miles and it overheated again. So he pulled into a Auto Parts store and they gave him regular coolant. So we were happy with this. He put this in and let it sit for about 10 minutes and then went on to work. This worked until this morning. On our way to work it overheated again 3 times. We put the rest of the coolant in and it was ok as long as we didn't make any stops for long periods until he dropped me off at work. As he was driving on his way to work it did it again and he had to pull off 3 more times. When he pulled into work 3 hours later and it is only 10 miles away. There was no coolant. But this morning there was a thinner version of the Yellow Latex paint looking coolant we got out yesterday. Please help. I have to drive 47 miles one way to work every day. And I need something that will last me for at least tax season.

I have a 1999 V70XC AWD. The tracs/abs module is dead. It is abs/tracs/awd. Can it be replaced with abs/stc/awd? I.e., can 9472100 be replaced with 9472971? If not, I'll send mine to Mr. Rocha. Otherwise, I can get the module for free.

Hi everyone.

Have a V70 1998, 1984cc petrol, which has taken to dying when I take my foot off the throttle. It also has a noisy power steering pump that I am about to replace, ABS just started playing up and thermostat seems stuck open, all within a month or so but can't see that these are related). Have looked around various literature, and can only see idle air control valve for tickover speed control. Any thoughts anyone please?

I need to replace my radiator and found instructions on the net that pertain to the 850 but wonder how similar the process are.

Here is what it says about the 850...

(1) remove top and bottom hoses (done)
(2) remove the oil cooler and transmission cooler lines (4) (done)
(3) remove the (2) 10mm and (2) 8mm bolts that hold the plastic assembly which the intercooler hose connects to. (mine are (2) torx 25 and (2) 8mm?) (stopped here because I'm not sure it corresponds with what they're talking about ?)
(4) remove the (4) radiator mounting bolts
(5) remove radiator from the bottom of the car


Is this how it's done?

Is the only descrepency the T25 torx instead of 10mm?

I'm looking to buy a service manual for my 99 S70 AWD Turbo and am undecided on which type to get. I'm interesting in finding out other users preference, I'm considering Haynes, Chilton and the electronic type for sale on e-bay. Thanks!

My battery just died this morning in my 2000 S70. Since it was the original battery, that wasn't bad. Anyway, now I need the security code for the stereo. Can I get it without having to go all the way to the dealer to get it?

For the record, I am mechanically inclined, but automotively inept.

I had one of my 98 V70(XC) in the shop to change out the CV axle. The wife had complained about the smell and noise. Upon inspection, the boot was torn and that black heavy grease was everywhere.

I made an attempt to pop the axle off, but had trouble dropping the outer ball joint off. So I took it to the shop. During my attempt, I did notice that the brake caliper did not like to pop off easily like it normally would.

When I arrived at the shop, I noticed the car pulling hard left and the rotor extremely hot. At a first trouble shoot, we decided to replace one of the brake lines and flush the system. 48 hours later, the car is doing the same thing. The shop immediately says I need new calipers.

I am having a hard time believing this. Before I sink a bunch of money in hopes they know what they are talking about, is there any way I can test it myself?

Hi to you all , I have a problem with the electrics , if I leave the lights off I get no heater fan or power to sunroof , when lights are switched on (sidelights or main) then the heater fan works & the sunroof , & I noticed today if I turn the grub screw to leave sidelights on constantly I get full beam not just sidelights , could this be a faulty light switch ? & why would the light switch affect the heater fan & sunroof ?

This is my tale of woe.

Doing my bit for the world climate, or was it a saving of 25p per litre, I went for the bio-fuelling option and filled-up 100 miles ago with Walkers finest 'chip' fat. The smell is pleasant and to be honest I do believe the power is up a little as well as the green bit.

All was well untill Sundays trip out when the car started missing and losing power. Sunday! Got to the point of nearly calling the rescue services whilst being overtaken by a bicycle going up hill. Belching smoke out and hoping we could get back to the level where we could get to 50mph. Fuel consumption went as low as 28mpg and the engine light came on.

It has to be the filter blocked I thought. I've had the car 2 months, don't know the fuel filter history, it has to be the filter! The bio-diesel has cleaned up the system - it has to be the filter!!

All the shops in the world open on a Sunday in Shropshire!!!!!! I don't think so. Fortunately I did find a filter, limped home and when I changed it, all was well again.

If you change to Bio-diesel change your filter soon after or carry a spare!

That's my tale, just two questions

1. Why did the light come on?
2. How do I get rid of it?

Hi everyone. I just joined this forum and its my first posting so bear with me.

I just got a 1999 V70 XC Turbo and the car is awesome!! It comes loaded with so many features and the ride is just outstanding. Its used from a dealer "as-is" with one previous owner with 100,000 miles.

I had it only had for one week and figured to give a real test drive... I drove 250 miles to Florida over the weekend and everything was great until the last 20 miles before reaching home that I started hearing clunking noises from the front right. It started sounding like a vibration then it became louder and more frequent. The noise became consistent and I worry that it will be the start of a series of expensive turnings.

This morning I drove it to a local mechanic and neither I nor the mechanic heard the clunking noise again. I'm not sure what the problem might be and I hope someone here may know. BTW, I am moving to the west coast in a couple of months in the Volvo. If anyone can help it will be MUCH appreciated!!

I noticed this noise just this morning when the car is in motion, the noise is not constant it comes and goes but its pretty loud, also the car vibrates when around 40 -50 mph . with the windows rolled up I noticed the noise comes from the area where the catalitic converter is. It was not loike this a week ago. Any input is appreciated

I have a 2000 S70 GLT that has an idle problem. When in park the idle fluctuates from around 500 RPM to 1000 constantly. It oscillates between 500 and 1000 PRM around every 2 seconds or so in an almost rhythmic manner. When driving the idle is around 800 and fairly constant although sometimes will oscillate between 750 and 850. Also sometimes when I come to a stop the idle will get real low and feel like it might stall although it hasn't yet. I cleaned the throttle body and have done general maintenance. Any thoughts or solutions? Thanks

I have owned this vehicle for one year, and i have some issues.
1. It smells like coolant or something like it inside cabin.
2. Check engine light comes on and off.
3. When I brake at low speed and come to a stop i hear and feel a click by the brake pedal.
I really enjoy this vehicle but is it worth to keep??? Any comments or help is appreciated.

Installed new brake rear brake rotor and it does not turn freely and makes a rubbing (swish) sound for every rotation...continues to rub when the entire wheel is reinstalled. Took the new rotor off, put the old rotor back on, and now that one has the same problem! (The old rotor did not rub at all before I removed it). Is the E-brake shoe now rubbing on the rotors? I tried adjusting the cable tension in the center consul, didnt help. I dont know if it is the dust guard, hub, e-brake or what. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

SRS Light on Ive tryed everything all the codes on the net but its still there does anyone know if disconnecting the battery overnight will work I tried it for 10 minutes but all that did was make radoi ask for my code,,,,WHICH I dont have

I noticed my passenger rear tail light seems to be dull than the other rear lights ?? Anyone ever see this, The bulbs are pretty new

I have changed serpentine belts before, but this was in an Olsdmobile. Is there any reason why I can't do it this myself? How do I do this?

I Have been starting to have problems with my S70/SE when it downshifts into the lower gears. The shifting is rather ruff and abrupt at times. Seems it only does this when it is warm. Can anyone advise me what this may mean.

My turn signals have quit working on my 99 C70 (I know this is the S/V70 forum, but I figured this part is the same on all of them, and there's more traffic here ).

The bulbs are all good, and I can make the signals work by manually working the stalk, but they won't flash automatically, and the emergency flasher doesn't work either.

I've searched, and it sounds like the flasher module is in the emergency flasher assembly, but I can't figure out how to get into it to see what needs to be replaced.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

My radiator was leaking so I purchased a new one and swapped it out last week. Everything went very well, although the transmision cooler lines going into the radiator had some really crazy clamps that were a little fun to get get off, but I R&R'd everything in about 3 hours. I did a drive test and checked for leaks and, WOOHOO, everything was sealed up and good to go!

A few days later I noticed a small oil drip under the car so I did some looking around and it looks like one of the cooler lines going into the radiator is leaking. Its pretty well soaked with oil so I cant tell if its coming from the top line or the bottom. The clamps are on just as tight as they were on the old radiator but I must have missed something somewhere.

Does anyone out there have any tips on what I should do to take care of this? I have had the car for 2 years and it has 180,000 miles and this is the very first fluid leak, other than the radiator of course, so I am not too happy having my pretty engine covered in dirt and oil

The V70R I'm look at buying is a 2000 model. It has a surging at low RPM's under gentel acceleration. The dealer is willing to discount it $1500 but says it is an "as is" car, so they won't do any repairs. Is this a reasonable deal? I really love the car otherwise. Another thing, if I need to take it to an actual Volvo shop, I would have to travel 60 miles each way. What's the feelings out there. Please hurry as my window to deal is short.

i loose my key and keyless remote control of my v70 98 i wish to know if i can buy that ones on ebay because them say that i have to reprogramig the remote and i don't know how? please help me to save money because these are very expensive

I have a volvo S70 with 175,000 miles. After driving an odor blows out the AC vents. When I turn the AC on the odor cannot be detected. Once I am out of the vehicle thare is a strong odor of burnt oil or fuel. The air filter has the same odor that is blowing into the cabin. I am at a loss as to the source of the problem. Filter has been replaced-- same results. Car is not burning oil; plugs replaced; no check engine light. I would welcome input. blm82

I've had my S70 AWD for about a month now, I like it overall but the ride seems VERY harsh for a sedan. I love the way it corners, neutral as a GO CART. but it is harsh and transfers a lot of road noise and roughness thru the suspension.
The car has 124,000 miles. I have no idea on the age of the struts but the don't feel mushy at all.
I haven't had it up in the air yet, My plan is to check averything for play,

Is a harsh ride typical with these cars?

So I have my 99 V70 drivers power seat working once in a while. The forward/back works fine and the elevation is also OK. It' the reclining part that works once in a while

I wanted to know if that's something normal for these cars to happen after so much use and
is there something I can check for to make it work consistently or is it something more than I can handle?

One of my windows won't go up, the rear passenger-side one is stuck down. What can I do myself to try and fix this? I know it's not a fuse because the other windows work fine.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I was looking around this weekend in the wagon and noticed some connections under the passenger seat. Most are white connections, 4 and maybe 8 pin connections - were there any options where they would have a location under the seat? I was wondering if this is where a CD Changer may have been located? there is also an additional connection (not and OBDII - this is in the center console armrest) under the ashtray/change pullout that is directly in front of the shifter knob. Does volvo make any type of a music keg that couples to the SC-813 deck?

I had to take the AT loose from my 98 2.4 L5 turbo engine. The procedure shows, when mating them back together, to replace the torque convertor bolts.

Does anyone know how critical it is to replace the original TC bolts with new ones?

Any experienced incite on this and advice on it is appreciated.

hi i am darren i have a v70 se 2.5 i love it the best car i have had but i have a warning ligth that go's on and off it looks like a bulb

as i was driving today, i tried to roll down the drivers side window, and the button was stuck. after a few tries, it worked, but then i could not roll it back up. after researching on this site and others, i found that the mater sitch i most likely the culprit.... oh yeah, i did get a chemical smell when it finally did roll up.

the weird thing is that the moonroof would not open when the window was stuck. how could this be connected. does the master window switch also supply juice for the moonroof to work.

im planning on changing the window switch, but any ideas on the moonroof issue is much appreciated...

Does the grill pop out or does the entire door panel need to be removed to replace the speakers in the rear door?

I have the replacements, with a conversion kit from Crutchfield, and don't want to take the door panel off if I don't have to.

I've had door panel experiences before which always left me with loose panels, so I'd like to avoid that.

does anyone know what the part is called that fits under the radiator and behind the bumper. i have a 1999 v70 turbo, and cant find any info on this part. also, is this just a cover to sheil dirt and debri, or does it actually protect the radiator...

On the car I just bought, the previous owner wasn't sure when the last timing belt was changed. This makes me a bit nervous and i'd hate for the belt to break on me. it appears to be in fine condition, but i think i'd feel better knowing that the belt was new and ready for many miles to come. Are there any good resources on how to do this myself? I've replaced numerous belts on other cars, but i don't think i've ever had a car with an interference engine. Any advice would be much appreciated.
