I am new to the cars and in fact V70 is my first wagon i am driving these days. I need your suggestion on the following topics.
1). is it true that ur driving style is involved in the fuel efficiency of your vehicle.
2) How can I improve my driving style to increase the mileage/gallon?
3) What parts I need to look after very regularly in my V70 for its better performance and maintenance.

I need to remove the two panel witch is around the instruments. Are there anybody who can help my with an description?

The glove box door on my 2004 v70 rattles a bit. Is there a way to tighten the latch?

I've been scouring the internet for advice on this issue and thankfully came across this website. I bought this car with 64K miles on it a year ago this month and have dropped about $2K in service issues and am losing patience.

Within the last week the check engine light came on along with 2 error messages, "transmission service required" and "emission system service required". I'm not too worried about the second message as I just had the fuel injection cleaned and it may just be running rich. However, the transmission message worries me.

Does anyone happen to know what this may mean?

We currently own two Volvos, a 1999 XC 70 and a 1998 S-70, and have had Volvos since 1969. We generally love the cars. I especially love the seating since I am 6'3", but we have always had problems with the poor service received from dealerships. Subsequently we have gone to an independent mechanic (Peabody Auto Clinic) who is extremely honest, helpful and does diagnoses rather than simply replaces parts (as Volvo does).

In any event, my wife's XC 70 (c. 170 K) recently encountered strange warning light sequences and dash issues. After spending $700 at our local Volvo dealer without any change I thought I would ask those of you who may have had a similar problem.

On several occasions the car goes through the following sequence of events: the ABS and Brake lights go on, then the transmission arrow light starts flashing, then the odometer and speedometer stop, then the arrow stops flashing and the winter mode kicks in, then the odometer and speedometer reactivate and the winter mode turns off, finally the car just runs OK but the engine light remains on (as it was at the beginning since Volvo doesn't know what to do).

Have any of you ever encountered this problem? Our mechanic believes this is caused by a short circuit but as of this writing cannot locate it. Thoughts?

I have priced a Volvo CD changer, $1,000 . Moving on quickly (!), I want to fit an after market CD changer. First I need to pull out the radio, but how? It's a HU603. There are no obvious tabs to use, unlike the previous model. Can anyone help?

I recently noticed a burning smell (smells like rubber) coming from the front of my 2001 XC70. The smell occurs when the engine is warm. The oil is changed on a regular basis, the tires are new, the brakes are new, and the 30K mile tune-up was done less than a year ago.

The car only has 32K miles and has been nothing but a headache for us. The front left and right sway bars links were faulty and replaced, the left inner tie rod was faulty and replaced, the brake booster was faulty and replaced, and the struts were faulty and replaced. Fortunately, all were covered under waranty.

Now the "smell" has occured....

Any ideas what it may be???

Soory for my poor level of english.
I'm writing you from France.

I'm the happy owner of of XC70 2001 that is giving us a lot of pleasure... except when we are driving more or less at 100 km/h. (under 90 km/h, and after 120 km/h : no main problem)
At this speed we feel vibrations in the car (not only in the driving wheel).

Our dealer has already checked many points as :
- We have changed the 4 tires
- They have controled the direction and equilibration of all wheels many times
- They have checked that the 4 wheels are inline

But for the moment they don't have any explanations for our problem.

Does someone has any idea about that?

Do anyone notice a noisy sound whie crossing wet conditions? The shaf seams to create some friction with an other part under the car. The garage tryed to make some modification but never ended with the right solution...

I just broke the outbound fuel filter connector hose clamp on my 2000 XC70 - not familiar with the connector clamp assembly and cracked the thing right off of the hose trying to disconnect it from the filter.

Can someone please tell me how to properly disconnect this clamp ficture from the inbound side before I break that, too?

I suppose I'm going to have to trim the hose where I broke the outbound side and triple clamp it and get a replacement installed so it's in propper order, but right now I'm stuck in the garage, a good distance from anyone who can bail me out of this.

I have to say I'm happy to have found this forum. I'm not happy to say I'm in big trouble -

Changing the fuel filter on my 2000 XC70 and wasn't at all familiar with the hose connector system that connects fuel lines to the filter. So I broke the outbound connector.

Before I break the inbound filter connector, can someone tell me how to remove it properly?

Can somebody tell me how to remove the dashboard speaker cover, so I can place the carkit speaker in that place?

Hello, I am receiving an SRS error after installing after market seat heaters in 2001 V70. I tried removing all the wiring for the seat heaters and it still dose not clear. I have checked all the wiring from the CEM to the seats with no problems.
I know when installing seat heaters I hooked a relay to the passengers side seatbelt trying to close the relay. I think this is where my mistake was. I have hooked only to the power seat wires now.
Anyone have any suggestions.

I just purchased a 2000 volvo v70 xc and i love it. The only thing i would like to do is toughen it up a little... I HATE those people who have H2s (compensating for something) but I also dont want to look like a soccer mom. Are there any brushguards or skid plates for this model volvo?

I purchased a 2004 V70 R AWD wagon from a kid (age 25) who flew over to Sweden, drove it around the country, had it shipped back here to the States, decided that he wanted more HP, ended up buying an M5 (nice one) and needed to offload the R to help pay for the M5. Lucky me, I happened to be in the right place at the right time. The local Volvo dealership contacted me because they knew I was really interested in getting one but not willing to pay the MSRP. I was a basic dealership rat - always coming over, always getting test drives from the S60 R and the V70 R. Talk about giving up on a customer - so, they told me to contact this kid...I did and 2 days after meeting him, I was handing over cash for the car. It was hard for me to justify buying this car because at the time, I owned a 2000 V70 R AWD wagon!! My wife wasn't too happy with my decision...at first. Then, she drove the '04 and decided I did the right thing. Needless to say, I had to sell the 2000 so some lucky bloke ended up with a (virtually) brand new car in the 2000 - I only had 45,000 on it with NO major problems other than rear light failures (common). I'm pretty meticulous when it comes to my cars. At any rate, I ended paying considerably less than MSRP and even less than when I bought the 2000. I couldn't pass up that deal - so, I bought it with 3,000 miles and have been smiling ever since. I don't have any pictures of my car on my PC here but included the EXACT car from swedespeed.com. Hope all can see the .jpg.

OK, so why am I here...well, in reviewing some of the various Volvo parts sites, I get a bit overwhelmed with how much info they have. I'm wondering if any of you have suggestions as to the BEST Volvo parts site there is. I'm looking to add a little flare (interior / exterior) to make my car stand out a 'little' more - not that it already does. Your help is my gain (grin).

[FONT=Optima]Is there anyone out there who had repeated problems with the electronic systems? Our xc70 with less then 40 000km and not a yr old has broken down 4 times in 4 weeks showing each time a different code of error on the dash. Last one was the setting for an horror movie for cars, with me on R and going forward. Once back on P park still on R. The garage tells me it is impossible but did 5 of our passengers dreamt it on the 31 st of dec 2004?? Don't want this car anymore: pathetic. If somebody has the number of volvo sweden, or europe please let me know!

When I am driving my 2003 XC70 while its heavily (!) raining or snowing from time to time I hear a strange noise, sounding like a circular saw (similar to the noise that's caused by a little stone, caught between the brake pads and the brake disc), which seems to come from the right front wheel housing.

The noise does not depend on engine RPM or vehicle speed. It stays steady (same sound and volume) until the car stops. As soon as the car stops it goes away - when I start driving again it is gone.

Is there anyone out there who made the same experience or - even better - knows what could cause this noise ?

My V70 has already got the space saver boot conversion done, and as I understand only need the two seats fitted, obviously with seat belts, but it seems some of the work is done. If anyone out there knows of a good dealer, a good price where I can finish this off before my 3rd child arrives in the summer, it would be appreciated. I am sure I can get it finished for less than 800 pounds

Greetings everyone from the Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong.

Our 2002 V70XC AWD needed to have its transimission replaced last week. The car has done 56000 kilometres. Problems first appeared about 5-6 months ago but I had to wait until the problem was so bad that it could be replicated on a road test with the head mechanic. We have had the car from new.

There was no question, the dealer replaced the gearbox under factory warranty. However, it has dented my faith for the future. Will another gearbox be needed in another 2 years time?

Has anyone else had trasnmission problems? By the way, it is an auto-box.

The problem was vibration at about 50-70 km/h when throtlle was applied gently. It didn't seem to want to change down and the vibration got worse and worse over time. I also have a concern about other vibration related problems that may turn up in the future e.g in the drive train bearings etc.

Every time I step on the gas there is a hesitation before it kicks in.
Is anyone having this same problem
I also find the steering to be annoying in that it feels like oversteer

Dear Members,

As we are now a family with 3 growing boys our 01 Golf 1.4 comfortline estate has had to make way for our newest arrival, a 2003 V70 demo model with 15,000 miles on the clock.
Not to critise the Golf in any way, all the models we have over the years and the 3 door TDI we still have, have been super little cars. The lack of space was probably the reason for changing to the V70, but as our 3 boys deserve the highest safety features while travelling, this estate is proving an ideal motor car.
Last week I drove the V70 on its first long journey and I am delighted with it and its performance.
Our model was supplied without roof rails, if any members know of suppliers of Volvo roof rails at a compeditive price I would be very greatful.

Could anyone say difference between V70 and V70R?

My V70 R seemed really quick when I bought it w/ only 20 miles on the odo. But now it has almost 13K and it seems a bit quicker. Is this typical of the 2.5 liter Turbo cars. Honestly, the R's are almost too powerful for most of us Stateside. The few of us that can handle it, expect 300 hp and prefer more.....

I need some advice on the integrated hands free phone in the car. When I receive calls the system automatically goes to handsfree which is great.

However when I make calls it defaults to the handset and I have to then use the steering wheel controls to handsfree. In Australia it is illegal to use a handset so how do I set it to default to handsfree all the time?

I am looking for info as to how to remove the angle drive in order to troubleshoot my car.It goes forward badly and wont back up at all. It cant even be pushed! I disconnected the driveshaft and that freed up the rear wheels,but the front is like it has a one way clutch. the front diff allows the front wheels to rotate in opposite directions,or forward,but not backwards.I dont have a service manual,but I run a VW Audi shop and have plenty of tools and equipment. A page or two from a service manual would do it.
