Hi

Does anybody know of any Salvage or Junk yards that specialize in late model imports or a Volvo specialist place where l can pick up some parts?

My Volvo dealership's price's are just crazy expensive.

I have a 1998 XC70. I took the car to the dealership for a recall (headlamp switch was faulty). Ever since we picked up the car, the door popped when opening and closing. We called the dealership a week later and made an appointment to come back. They looked at it and said (per my wife) that the door stopper broke off and would need to be welded. It was only a coincidence that this happened when we took it for service. They would charge $200 to fix it, or we could get it welded on our own. A mechanic did not look at it, but the person at the counter that takes the appointments told my wife that.

I've tried spraying grease in the area, but no help. The door clicks twice when opening (at each stop on the stopper) and twice when closing.


Any ideas?

The car is GREAT but this noise is driving me CRAZY!!

This is my first posting.

I have a 2001 V70 T5 and have taken a wicked rock that cracked a headlight cover. My local dealer in Toronto has informed me that Volvo only sells complete headlight assemblies, which are quite expensive. He has suggested that I search the internet for headlight covers. Does anybody know where I can find them in Canada or the United States? I know that they exist for 2000 and earlier, but 2001 is what I need. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I saw a set of mats for my Volvo and the picture really didn't show the proper color, because the tan and taupe look the same in a digital pic. I was given the Volvo part #'s

On the passenger side door it appears that the strip of rubber molding that runs up and down on the back of the door jam was torn.

Is this a costly item and is this a dealer thing?

On the back of the key fob remote there is the following

A 7 digit Number

Which one is the pin #

On Ebay there is a remote with the same 7 digit number as on the first line above with the smiley.

Also how much does it cost to replace a key from the dealer?

I am about to buy a 2002 Volvo V70 D5 but have heard reports of a know diesel injector problem with this engine. I understand it develops as a cold start problem, leading to a failure of the engine to start at all. Volvo's remedy is to replace all 5 injectors at a cost of around £1500 including labour charge.

Can anyone tell me whether :

a. this problem is common, how many cars our of 100 would be affected for example.

b. are the replacement injectors clear of the same fault.

c. I assume not all injectors fail at the same time, so can not just the failing injector be replaced - how do you diagnose which is at fault.

c. can I tell whether the injectors on this car have already been replaced (are they different in any way from the factory originals).

d. can the injectors be changed by a competent DIY owner (do the injectors have to be calibrated against the management control unit - I believe this is the case on some common rail engine such as BMW 3.0TD))

e. can the injectors be purchased cheaper elsewhere (who makes them - e.g. Bosch)

Sorry for so many questions, but I would hate to buy this car knowing that it has a potential serious and expensive fault and I'm sure the answers would be of interest to other owners.

I just found out that my buddy just picked up a 2002 V70T for me and it has the third seat.

Being that l will never use the third seat and that it doesn't come with the cargo cover, can l install one if l never use the 3rd seat.

Also it has a 10 CD changer but my buddy cannot find it. Where do they hide it?

My wife and I have two small children and decided on a Volvo for their incredible safety record. We bought a 2004 XC70 with the touring package. It has 31,000 miles on it and looks as though it was garage kept since originally purchased. No scratches, no dings, smells new and runs great. This was from a dealer and is Volvo certified.

I am amazed at how well it drives. It shifts so smoothly and handles like a dream. I have a 2000 VW Golf that I really enjoyed, but what a difference! My back never hurts when driving the XC70, even after hours of driving. Seems like a really nice car. Extended warrant is for 6 years or 100,000 miles. That's pretty good!

I hope I don't have the problems others have posted. After reading them, I am worried. But then again, I have a friend who had many problems with his Honda and they are suppose to be very reliable. I guess you just never know until you own one.

My brand new 2005 XC70 with 1,100 miles on it died this morning and needs a new transmission. I am stunned! I have purchased new Volvo's in the past and have needed to repair stupid little things in the first month or so of its life but never something as major as the transmission. Has anyone else experienced this in the 2005 model year? If yes, where there any other issues that came out due to the changed transmission? Any other thoughts?

It's between a 2003 V70Turbo really loaded in mint condition with 40,000 miles or

a 2004 V70 with the normal options Premium package and winter package with approx 15,000 miles. Average dings

I am really surprised to see my friends Volvo xc70 today. well at this time i am quite impressed i want to get your sugestion about its engine performance wear and tear. If any body have some bad experience please let me know about it.

Just joined the Forum a few weeks ago. Proud owner of a 2005 V70R AWD, an amazing car in every sense, acceleration, handling, braking, comfort, etc.
After putting 150,000 miles on a 1998 V70 -it was just broken in -it was time for something different.
If there are any V70R owners out there I would be interested in what kind of mileage you are getting under average driving conditions.

Please, anyone have a similar experience with their 2001 V70XC? At 97,500 miles last week, this car developed a chug/resistance lurch instead of smoothly accelerating. The next day, it got more severe after taking it out with my Volvo dealer service mechanic. After initial surgery, it was determined the tranny needed to be replaced at the cost of $5400. Followed a diligent maintenance schedule since Day One. Most recent scheduled maintenance was done just two weeks prior to this occurrence and there was never a warning light. Anyone have a similar experience?

My V70 D5 is now approaching 22 months old and 58,000 miles.
Starting from cold was becoming harder, thought I would flag this up at the 60K service.
Next thing it would'nt start at all from cold. Was advised by main dealer to use easy start, this worked and got me home.
Car taken to dealers and had to have new diesel injectors, luckily car just still under warranty as it would have cost the best part of £2000 to repair!!!!!
So if anyone's D5 is just a bit reluctant to start get the bloody thing in pronto before the warranty runs out.
The service manager let on that this is a known problem.
I wonder who would have paid at 70,000 miles?

I am considering buying XC70 of year 2000. It has full electric package and no manual. On driver's side sun protection shield there are three buttons labeled with 1, 2 and 3. Does anyone knows what these buttons are for?

What are the differences between the reg V70 in 01 then the 02 and then the 03 and finally the 04.

I know the body is the same as well as the 2.4 engine. I am not interested in the the 2.4T or 2.5t or the R model.

Also the auto went from a 4spd to a 5 spd, but besides that is there really a difference?

What makes me crazy is that there are no reviews on the reg non turbo engine, and they sold more of them then any other engine that they make.

As I visited my dealer / shop, they informed me of a new initiative from Volvo, they have found that the cooler fans on at least the 2001 2.4T models may be faulty and is called all the vehicles affected in for fan replacement. He could not tell me details on what the problems were. This will be done for free of course! I do not know which other V70 mmodels may be affected. Check with your dealer if you do not hear anything or is not registered in their system as the owner.
Anyone else has similar or more information?

I would like to buy a really good estate car. I have read that the v70 is the king of estates, and practically indestructible. I'd appreciate any comments on this. My family and I often go on holidays with our caravan, so I'd also like to see the v70 rated for towing.

With Volvo's Certified cars it makes it hard to buy from any other place even wholesale for a late model.

They give you new tires, cheap financing 1.9% for 24 months and a 100,000/6yr new car warranty.

If l am unable to buy a V70 this week on auction from Volvo Leasing at a great price with low miles and in excellent condition, l will be going retail.

Between everything they give you, you get a similar savings with a better warranty and the time to really check the car out.

What are your thoughts??

If l see a V70 2.4turbo then it will be a no brainer, but it must be in minto condition.

Can I install my own or do I have to take it to the dealer? 2nd time in as many months that it needs a new one and hate to take the time for the dealer if I don't have to.

While checking out a 2002 V70 which was real sweet except not having the turbo engine my wife mentioned to me on the way home from our dealer that her seat (passenger) was manual and not power.

The question is l know that it was an option but what package was it in and if it was in a package what did it contain? Or was it a single option or went with memory seats.

The V70 had only 28,000 miles and is Volvo certified with new tire and was real clean.

Is it common for V70 lug nuts to rust and whaat about the rotor's? It seems every now and then when l'm looking at a V70 l notice this and of course they say that it's normal.

I really don't believe it and feel that it was kept outside all the time or was parked in a snow bank forever.

Please advise.

We're about to get a V70 2002 from the dealer. He says since 2001, the players are designed to only take factory recordings--no home mixes. This is after I had a little problem with a prospective purchase. Any truth to this?

My 'new to me' second hand volvo V70 came with one set of keys.

The dealer quoted GBP 80 for a new key, GBP 37 to 'chip' it. Now GBP 120 seems a lot for a new set of keys, until I discovered the central lock keyfob is an extra GBP 40 plus another GBP37 to program it.

The guys at the parts counter reckoned a complete set of keys would be about GBP 250, so I guess there's VAT on top!

I own a 2001 V70XC and I've been thinking about swapping my current head unit (HU-803) with an aftermarket Kenwood or Alpine head unit with an LCD screen.

Only problem is I don't know if the integrated phone is a part of the head unit or not.

Does anyone know whether the phone is a seperate unit as I want to keep the phone?

For some reason l cannot find them anywhere.

I have a 2001 V70 T5 which is running perfect with 75,000. I am thinking it is about time to change shocks. I am considering Bilsteins, and there is an Eibach Spring package which lowers the vehicle roughly an inch. I had an older Volvo which I lowered and it made it pretty hard on rough surfaces. My mechanic suggested changing the springs when I do the shock and strut. I was wondering if it would be fine to leave the existing stock springs on there at this point in it's life and just change the shocks. I like the ride as is, and I know pretty much what the lowered spring package feels like, especially on choppy roads,etc. Anyone who has experience in this, I would greatly value your opinion on this.

98 XC70 has 99,000 and has annoying vibration at 62 mph. It doesn't seem like a wheel balance issue as the vibration is consistent as opposed to the fluctuations that are experienced with a wheel balance issue. The same vibration can be felt when braking betwwen 75 and 60 mph. Additionally, when accelerating from a stand still the engine seems to run a little rough and can be felt through the pedals and steering wheel. I was told this could be engine bushings.. Is this true?

Last May I bought a 2001 V70 2.4T, automatic transmission, registered already in 2000 in Belgium. Imported to Norway in 2003.

Mileage is around 50.000 km.

Since i purchased the car a number of problems has been expereinced:

The front stabilizer bar connecting rods was worn already!

Later noises from the front suspension was solved by installing rubber insulators in the springs.

Two door locks have failed; RH front and rear hatch.

Heat shield for the turbo came loose and was rebonded.

The knob for the mirror adjustment broke, and was fixed by bonding.

LH main headlamp show condensation in both main and park light area.

Park brake does not return completely when releasing the handle in cold weather. Release completely when engaging gear or movement in the car. Probably lubrication probem?

Several "squeeking" sounds in the leather / plastic interior parts. Familiar? Tricks to make the interior stop making it own noises?

Part of the upper L/H door panel has come loose from the part with the door handle. (can be pushed outwards) Removal procedure?

Feel the suspension could be improved, may be worn shocks but at this mileage?

My local Volvo dealer state there is nothing perticluar wron with the car, It behaves the way that model should. Are they protecting their brand?
Any one else with the same problems?

Othervise very happy, the car has the BRS PPC tuning kit giving increased Hp and torque from low RPMS, max 252 HP and 410Nm Tq.

Great trailer puller, and when overtaking, use around 1.1 litre pr 10km on mixed driving winter time.

Any thing I should watch out for?

Are any workshop manuals available for this model?

I own a 2001 V70 XC with approximately 50,000 miles. Recently the "Check Engine" light has come on and the message panel reads "Emissions System Service Required". My mechanic checked out the car and said it was probably caused by the gas cap not being tight and therefore caused a depressurization. He cleared the message board and sent me on my way. Two days later the same messages have reappeared. I called my mechanic and he's doing some research. Whatever that is. Any Advice?

I just purchased a 2000 V70XC from my son. I loved the car the day that he purchased it. I've owned several Volvo Penta marine engines that I spend a lot of time cussing. So I figured that owning a third Volvo machine would cover my entire vocabulary! My feeling is that these cars are made in a north so they must be designed to work well in the cold.

The roads in my area tend to have lots of pot holes and are covered by lots of head lamp and windshield breaking gravel. Does anyone sell a cover for these head lamps that does not interfere with the wipers?

Hi all, I am attempting to connect a Volvo 10 disc changer to a V70 T5 2001MY. The car is not pre-wired but I have located the details reference the 8 pin DIN connection unfortunately I have not been able to find details relating to the 'power' connection. I assume this requires an interconnecting lead to join the green connector near the fuse box (only 3 wires, blue +12v, Black ground, yellow appears open) to the 5 pin blue connector on the cd changer. There is a spare fuse location marked cd changer but there is no contact in the housing and apparently this power lead is not available separately. Does anyone have the connection detail or a picture of this lead please!!!

Any ideas? Have checked the fuses in the drivers side fuse box and all is in order.....i have a stereo system that isnt working,no lights,noise,nothing!! The only thing that has happened was that it let me eject my CDs. the stereo was intermittent then just died.The car is a 2002 model and just been serviced.Has anybody else had the same problem?

Volov states, " Volvo engines are designed for optimum performance on unleaded premium gas w/an octane rating of AKI 91, or above." Gas is getting very expensive. I drive a nice, EXPENSIVE XC-70 but am watching my pennies. (I'm retired.) Can I get away w/burning mid-grade fuel in my buggy? Other than compromising performance with the light pressure turbo, would it cause lasting damage to burn a lower octane? Please enlighten me what the different octanes would do to affect performance.
