I live in Norway and i hawe bougt an imported Volvo xc 70.
The owner in USA was Volvo Finance North America in Montvale.The car was sold by Nemith Motor Corp. in October 2001.
In my country it is very important to retain documentation of all service and warranty repairs on our cars.In the warranty and service information book that follows my car ther is no such information.That is my problem.The seller told me that i could get the servicehistory from an database in USA.I hope someone can help me with some information about how to get the servicehistori of my car.

I have a 2000 (2001 look) V70 T5 and a new problem.

The electric mirror adjusting is not working. No idication light comes on when I press the L or R switch and the mirrors are not moving at all when I use the little joystick in the middle. I was trying to locate the fuse for the electric mirrors but there is none mentioned in the manual.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I'm looking at a class II "Hidden Hitch" for my 2004 v70. Installed cost w/ wiring about $250. Has anyone had experiences (good, bad, indifferent) with Hidden Hitch or Drawtite on a v70?

I'm a new V70 owner from Hungary!
I have a question. I want to buy an original volvo subwoofer, but i don't find any. At Volvo Hungary iI can buy it, but it cost 660$. Maybe have anyone an used subwoofer?
I have an other idea. I copy the original set, and i make it myself. The original cables are too thin. I will use more thicker, but i haven't got any draw or photo of the subwoofer. Can anyone make me a photo about it? Or have have here anyone an original volvo subwoofer?
And my last question: where can I find circuit diagrams about the audio adapters? There is an audio adapter for the subwoofer in my trunk. I need a diagram about it, to use that.

I am new to this site but it seems to be full of helpful info and friendly users. I am hoping that someone can help me out here.

I recently bought a slightly used 2004 V70 and so far am very happy.
However, I have found that it is hard to tell for sure that I have locked the doors behind me because the parking lights do not flash when I lock the doors with the remote. I have to look for the locks to be down visually or hear the sound (Unfortunately, I have poor hearing so usually I have no choice but to look to make sure the locks are down.)

Does anyone know if there is a way that I can program the lights to flash without paying the dealership to do so?

In the last 2 weeks my Volvo, 2001 V70-non turbo with 83,000 miles, has developed a "whine" coming from the engine. Very annoying. It sounds like a vacuum leak. It's a constant whine that doesn't increase or decrease with RPM's but does stop briefly during acceleration. It's not present on a cold start but starts after the engine warms up. A local mechanic has looked at it and thinks it’s a PCV/breather box problem, that an orifice is missing. He has talked with Volvo but he said that its not a common thing that they were familiar with. Any body got any ideas?

I live in San Antonio and am seriously considering a Volvo V70 - '06. I've known since old Army days the Volvo community is passionate about the brand - with Ford ownership was just looking to see if the new models hold up to the same caliber of quality as years ago. Any input would be great, thanks. Additionally, if you have experiences with the difference in performance between the 2.4 vs the 2.5T, I'd be grateful for those insights.

Hello all,
New to the forum. I've got a 2000 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro (AWD) 5-speed. It has 96k on it. We will be having kids soon, and I'm thinking about "going back to my roots" and getting a Volvo. My family has always had Volvos. My Dad currently has a '84 240DL w/ 156k, an '86 740 w/ 215k, and an '02 V70 XC. I think I should have bought one instead of my Audi 6 years ago, but that's another story.
Anyway, test drove a '99 V70 T5 and a 2001 V70 T5 today. Here are some thoughts:

'99 V70 T5:
- 5-speed manual. Liked being able to shift for myself, but the action was slow (like the shifting mechanism was stiff). Is that normal?
- clutch friction point was almost to the floor (in the A4 it's very high). Normal?
- T5 is like a rocket. Reminds me of my motorcycle days. Didn't really notice the turbo lag, maybe I'm used to it in the Audi.
- Torque steer: didn't notice it. Lots of magazine reviews complained about it.
- Saw the typical upper engine mount problem - crack in the rubber.
- Handling: not as "connected" as my A4 but good.
- They wanted $10,995 for it. The motor mount needed to be fixed, as well as a tire rebalance (at least that's what it felt like) and the front power seat didn't work fore/aft.

2001 V70 T5:
- Automatic. Decided that I still can't live with one. It's not a bad auto but I still like manuals.
- More "subdued" or "refined" than the '99. Engine noise is less apparent, which I kind of missed. Still very fast, just quieter.
- More roomy. Liked the seating position (much like my Dad's XC, no surprise).
- Sometimes I would catch the toe of my shoe on something in the footwell when going from the brake to the gas - anyone else have this problem? (I wear size 12).
- I think the steering and handling were sharper than the '99.
- They wanted $15,400 for it. Only thing I noticed was that the dash cupholder was broken. Also, it had a vibration at 60mph - seemed like another tire balance issue. Is this common?

Anyway I am leaning towards a 2001+ V70 T5 5sp. I have time, I'm in no hurry, but I know the 5sp will be a wait. Some other questions:
- Any reason not to buy a 2001 and go to 2002?
- My Audi gives me fits sometimes with it's weirdo problems. Should I expect the same, better or worse with a Volvo? I miss the rock reliability of the 240 and 740.
- Can anyone with a 2001+ 5sp give me some comments on what they think of the clutch, stick, etc?
- Is there a FAQ somewhere that I can read up on common problems to look for when I'm shopping?
- How (un)common are these manual V70 T5s?

I have just received my new V70 from the dealer.
The car has a Hu-650 radio (no CDC)
I asked them the price for an iPod adapter: Euro 380 fully installed.
This seems quite high (=USD 460).

Does anybody have any suggestions how/where to purchase the right cable and how
to build in this cable? The dealer indicated that this was a complicated 2 hour job.

Any help or pointers are appreciated.

My OEM Pirelli Scoripon ST tires have worn down to 0/32 tread in under 30,000 miles! I am getting conflicting information on replacing them.

I wanted to buy Michelin Hydroedge tires as one tire guy recommeneded them, But when I went to the shop, I was told they were a lower rating than the original tire, and Volvo wouln't recommend putting them on the car.

I've been told that the Pirellis wore out so fast because they are performance tires. I have been told is is ok and been told it is not ok to put lower rated tires on the car.

I just use the car for everyday driving, no off-road or crazy speeds.

I don't want to spend the money for the scorpians or have them wear out so quickly again. Would prefer to put on the Michelin Hydroegde for $200 less.

Any advice?

XC V70 Owner going DEAF!

Hello all. First time user for this forum.
I am looking at purchasing a new wagon. I came across a 2002 XC70 today.
My question is what points I should look at carefully with this model and year.
New to the volvo scene I am unaware of what options came in that year so am not sure what is standard for the XC or option.
It has 116,000 km. Leather interior with wood grain dash. Power Everything,Sunroof etc

Have been thouroughly looking at this vehicle. For a 2002 it is imaculate inside and out.

One item I am wondering about is:

When you go from R through N to D there is a delay before D engages and then it engages very hard. The delay time before engaging also changes. It is a definate hard thump when it does engage.

Any Help would be appreciated.

I was behind on service and began having starting problems when I took my '02 V70XC into the dealer for service last week at just under 94,000 miles.

For the last week or two before I was getting a prolonged starting problem, both hot and cold, with plenty of spark and crank before it finally caught. For $800 they did "minor" 30K tuneup, replacing plugs, a couple of filters and oil, plus rear sway bars.

I'm still having starting problems, cranking maybe 15 -20 seconds before it catches. Any thoughts?

Two weeks earlier I took it to the same dealer, asking them to check for possible transmission problems. I was getting sporadic hesitation starting from a dead stop ("neutral control"?), with a rare clunk shifting into reverse and, even more rarely, a bit of a harsh 2-3 upshift.

They came back, said "no code," ATF was "OK" and wanted to have it longer/overnight to check for possible half-shaft problems. I then took it to American Transmission franchise for no cost evaluation, accompanying the tech on the test drive. He said hesitation was engine, not transmission, and I had no reason to doubt his expertise.

Re ECM/ETM, I'm confused and would welcome clarification (esp from Tech). How many Electronic Control Modules are there and which is the one subject to 1999-2001 exteneded warranty?

I think that's the Electronic Throttle Module, but I've also seen information here that there are separate Electronic Control Modules for the engine, for the transmission and also for the fan, which concerns me because my car seems to run very hot (under the hood, tho no indication on dashboard gauges), even after short time.

Also, do we know on which 2002 V70XCs they began to replace the troubling electronic throttle module? Volvo is said to have replaced the faulty ETM after 2001, but the class-action California lawsuit says the problems go beyond 2001 MY.

My 2001 XC70 with 58000 miles, recently serviced by Volvo Charlottesville (VA) at both 44000 and 50000 miles DIED.

Low pressure oil light came on, seemed like car was still functioning but with some strange engine noise. Volvo Bangor (ME) advised having AAA tow the car to the dealership. Darlings Volvo indicated that the turbo seal was leaking, so they fixed that and had a mechanic test drive the car and the engine failed completely.

Now Darling is recommending that the entire engine be replaced due to sludge build up. At 44000 there was some indication of buildup and Volvo service supposedly cleaned it. No indication of any problem at 50,000 miles.

The estimate for replacing engine is $7500, about half the Kelley Blue Book trade-in value. Meanwhile I'm stuck in Maine (fortunately it's nice weather) trying to get back to Virginia.

Is this an isolated case? Or, is the Volvo reign for longevity over? Stay tuned to see whether Volvo stands behind its product.

I want to install a parking sensor to my 2003 v70.
Is it OK to conect on (reverse light) lead from gearbox or is there any better sugestion.

My concern are not to screw up the system.

Hi. I'm away from home (and my volvo mechanic) on vacation and my key is sticking in my ignition and won't turn/start the car. I brought the car in to my mechanic with this problem a couple weeks ago and he said it need to be lubed, which he did, and it was fine for a while. But now I can't start the car and there's no Volvo mechanic around. I tried spraying Liquid Wrench in the keyhole but it hasn't helped.

It's a 1999 V70, by the way.

I'd appreciate any advice anyone has (though, since I'm new, I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to figure out how to find replies!)

Good day Volvo owner!

The right front door (left hand drive) can't be opened with remote from the outside or inside with door handle. Other doors work fine with remote and key.
The right front door inside lock button knob will move upward only if inside door handle is used. Because the inside door handle moves the knob, the cable must fine.
The electronics in right front door isn't working: electric window, lock remote and temperture indicator don't work
When you lock the doors with the remote and wait, after sometime you hear an extra (locking?).
Since the right door can't be openen I can't remove the door panel (can't get to the plastic expansion rivets)
Must I replace the door lock assembly?

Isn't this a safety iseu (compared to older cars with only mecanical lock): sitting in a car and the door(s) can't be opened from in- or outside?

How do you cut down on the wind noice from tubular cargo bars?

I have a set of cross bars for my 2004 XC70. I do find them noisy when mounted. Volvo recommended that I take them off my roof when they are not in use. But I find it troublesome having to remove and re-mount them. I have heard some people said put two of them close together and mount them at the very back of the roof rack, and some said spread them far apart. Does anyone know the best spot on the rail to mount these bars when they are not carrying anything, for both lowest wind noise and best fuel economy???

I just got a 2002 V70 XC AWD.
When I make an extreme right or left turn, if I'm taking a right angle turn on a city block say, the steering wheel stays in the turned position and doesn't snap back if I let go of the wheel. I have to manually straighten the wheel.
If I take a greater than 90degree turn the wheel will slowly snap back into a more straight position like it has on every other car I've ever driven.
Usually when making a turn in any car the steering wheel will make more of an effort to self straighten if let go the sharper the angle you take, right? This car does that except when taking the right angle turn I described.
Does anyone know if this is some intentional performance feature or is it a sign of some problem with the steering?
Otherwise I have to say I love the car! Big upgrade from the 2000 V40 I had last.

I just bought my wife a 1998 V70 T5 with 86k on it yesterday. Of course, like all used cars, it has its share of a few "minor" issues. After buying, I noticed the horn does not work, and that the windows are intermittent with a "clicking noise" when the switch is pressed. Also the drovers door does not stay open (it swings freely with no resistance or hinge stop). Everything else checks fine. Anyone know how to address any of these problems? Thanks for your time.

Just today I purchased a beautiful pre-owned 2004 XC70. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow, but have one question I would love answered before I make my way to the dealer with checkbook in hand.

My XC70 has the third seats in the back. When going over the car, I noticed on either side of the third seat two narrow "floorboards," or panels on the wagon bed that are not bolted down to the floor. The salesman (who happens to be filling in for my original guy who is on vacation this week) said this is normal.

is this true? Doesn't make sense that they would be loose.

Also, can anyone tell me if these boards serve any puropse, since they don't seem to be concealing anything underneath?

I am new to the forum, so my apologies if this topic
has been discussed before. I did a search which didn't
give any results. My 2001 v70 has bilstien shocks all around
and I belive HR springs. The car has dropped about an inch
and within 800 miles the rears (on insides) are almost showing
threads! I took it to a alignment shop and was told the car has
no rear camber adjustment. Does anyone have any thoughts
or know of any kits to solve this.

We've got a 2001 V-70 and we are getting the deaded Bulb Failure-Position Light message. In my search across the forum I see that seems to be a pretty common occurance. I've replace all the bulbs in the rear-end of the car and still I get the message. I have noticed that the "perimeter lights" under each side mirror aren't working anymore. Could this be my "position light" problem? And if so, how does one go about changing those blubs? Thanks in advance.

Hi, my v70 just turned 70000 miles and there is a hesitation in the car. I have no warning lights or messages on but on slow acceleration and at constant speeds there is a repeating hesitation. The hesitaion goes away after a couple of minutes when the cruise control is engaged. It feel like a speed regulator is clicking on and off but I know that isn't the case. Any help would be appreciated.

Brake pedal went hard after an oil change now all my weight needed to stop the car on my 2001 V70. Any advice? Is it an easy part to replace? Should i blead brake lines? Please help my wife can't drive the car now and she is making me feel it.

I am about to p/ex my LPG S60 SE for a much newer LPG V70S, (one of the last, sob, sob) Is there any concern in the UK that members can recommend who can substitute Walnut for battleship grey? My S60 had an american sourced stick on dash kit which added limited "style" to the usual black facia, but I am wanting to change the whole shebang if possible.

I was wondering if it was possible to swap a v70R engine into a 1995 960 wagon?

Towbar fitting and bumper removal on 2002 v70. I was told that there were 2 screws at the point of the bumper. well; after spending about an hour trying to get at them I discovered that they'v got nothing to do with getting the bumper off. IT'S DEAD EASY! Take battery cover off and take battery out. (there is one bolt you can't quite get at with it in). Look at the foam strip there are 2 perforated areas hidding the centre bolts; for the 2 end ones you can just peal back the strip. ( it sticks back when your finished). Undo the 4 bolts with a 1/2" socket. then go undrneath the car and drill out one rivet either side on the underside of the bumper right at the end by the rear wheel. ( In hind sight it would be easier if the back of the car was on ramps). It loks like there should be one screw either side at the point of the bumoper just behind the rear wheels but these wern't there on mine. If they are , remove them. The next bit is easier with 2 people though I did manage on my own. Go to the front end of the bumper by the rear wheel and apply upward pressure, at the same time gently pull the point of the bumper away from the body and slide the whole lot backwards. Do the same on the other side and it's off. Replacement is a bit fiddly getting the point back into place but I reckon I could now get it off and on in about 30 minutes. Inside the tailgate there are 2 redundant plugs. The offside one has all the wiring for a standard towbar electrics.. You need to put fuses in no 9 and 15 in the tailgate fuse box to enable the live feeds; blue ignition live, red permanent live. It wouldn't surprise me if the other socket was for parking sensors. so it's worth checking. Hope that helps. Have fun Best regards Steve.
