Ok guys I'm new to the whole Volvo scene and I haven't even gotten my car yet. My question is:

The front grill on the 2005 Volvo S40, can the angled bar be removed without cutting? It's the bar that houses the volvo symbol.

I am getting ready to take ownership of 2005 S40 AWD T5 with 16 inch wheels -dealer is offering 17 inch wheel and tire replacements for[B] free ]- the website suggest that tires though high on performance willbe limited wear - I am in MI (SNOW) and drive about 18 - 20 K a year on car - am leaning toward keeping the 16's

Going right now to investigate. I have read up on and drooled over the S40 T5 long enough. Now it is time to test drive!
I would like to special order one. How long does that typically take?

Test drove a bunch of cars, and then I drove the S40. Purchased one the next day after driving it. I had to make sure I wasn't acting too impulsively. My Barents Blue 6speed T5 AWD will arrive in December. No car in it's price range does so many things well. Everything I drove had some area that fell short of the Volvo. Pics will follow after delivery.

hey, i just bought my new s40 t5 awd, i love it... orginally i ordered my car in 6 speed, they built the car in automatic , and i had to wait 2 months... it was BS, because automatic is a option, 6speed is standard, and i couldnl't wait a nother 2 months so they waived the 1200 for the automatic... its beautiful.. 12 speakres, navigation, moonroof, body kit, spoiler... only complaint... the gas tank is toooo small.. here are some pics.. tell me what u think

First post, because I could not find an answer in the search function... hopefully some of you will know. I just purchased a 2005 S40 (2.4i, automatic transmission, no other options/packages).

I don't fully trust the dealer with giving me a straight answer, hence the following questions:

1. I am told by the dealer that there is no cover to the diagnostics outlet plug by the hood lever (by the driver's left knee)? However, the owner's manual clearly shows and states that there should be a cover to this outlet. How are your cars? Cover or not? Is this specific to US models?
2. The owner's manual also mentions the "rear park assist" system, and, unlike other features does not specify that it is an option - which would imply that it is not... I doubt it, and imagine it is an oversight in the manual, but can anyone confirm?

We're finally taking delivery of our new passion red s40 2.4i on Friday, 18 Feb. Sold our 1996 OPEL Astra 2.00iE this morning (very sad 'cause it was our first car...)

I am from South Africa and we ordered a PASSION red s40 2.4i in October 2004. Today I tracked the ship ("Hual Tracer") and the ETA in Durban is on 27 January 2005 -- which means we'll get our new car within the next few weeks!! SO EXCITED. We ordered a wing spoiler and specified black leather interior - will post pictures as soon as it arrives!

Oh, yeah - we're getting personalized number plates: "2REDHOT - WP"!! Cool!

The new S40 has come up with bettah security feauters with various crumple zones as well as rear and front impact protection. Another fing I lyke abt it is that de front seats can be folded too to make some space for longer stuff. N yeah it does achieve extra ordinary high speeds in minimal period of tyme

This sounds odd, but my 2004.5 is about ready to run out of washer fluid. I love the smell of the OEM fluid, anyone know what type it is? I plan to call dealer too.

I'm sure many of you will relate to what happened to me yesterday. In 1996, I purchased a dependable, utilitarian, no-frills Mazda 626 which served beautifully as the "knock-around", "get-me-from-Point-A-to-Point-B" transport. I bought this car with 4000 miles on it and was quite satisfied with its loyal service over the next 105,000 miles.

One week ago, a scraping sound started as I coasted, a clear indication on Mazdas (and many other cars, I assume) that the brake pads needed to be replaced. After a quick trip to my local brake shop, I was distressed to find that the struts and most of the bushings in the front end were on their last legs. To do the entire job would run about $2000. (This in a car with a Kelly's Blue Book of $1000).

I had planned to get a new car next year but the impending repairs on the faithful Mazda forced my hand. After all, that's money I would never get back.

A friend in Chicago just traded his Passat in for a 2005 Jetta with the 1.8 turbo. (Btw, he is quite disappointed with the car - - - very noisy, hard ride and not as quick as he had hoped). I was literally on my way to a VW dealer to look at Passats when I saw the big blue Volvo sign. I pulled into the lot knowing nothing about the newer models (after all, I was going to buy a new car next year). I fully expected there was nothing in the Volvo line which would be close to the price of a Passat.

Enter the S40. I was amazed to find the car to be so affordable, yet so beautifully crafted. I bought a Barrent Blue T5 AWD 6 speed with leather, the audio upgrade and a sunroof and can't believe the difference between this car and the Mazda I was driving.

My first car was actually a Volvo, a 1970 144S. I loved that car; what it lacked in horsepower it made up for in ruggedness, character and ride. To me (in the mere 24 hours I've had the car), the S40 has all of this plus 220 horses, gorgeous styling and amazing handling. I can't imagine a better car for less than $30K.

Tonight, I'm headed to Chicago to toast the New Year with my friend who is still grumbling about his Jetta. Imagine my grin (and his envy) as I pull in with a car which is clearly head and shoulders above anything else near this price range.

One question for those of you in the know. I am a fan of the "nose bra", especially when driving around Wisconsin during the months when roads are being graveled. My dealer didn't think that the S40 had this available from the factory as of yet. Will such a thing be offered sometime in the future? If not, are there any aftermarket products which may work to protect the front end of the car from chips and dings?

Why are all of the accessories for the new S40 NEVER in stock? I go to different dealerships because I am interested in the "Iced Aqua" for the center consol and also the doors....but they are never available to even put an order in. I also have been interested in adding the subwoofer that is advertised in the accessories catalog but the tech at the dealership said it would cost about $1,600 for installation and parts. I mean COME ON who wants an 8" bass box for $1,600. Dont they need to be a little more realistic? I dont know if anybody will even know this answer but WHEN will the accessories actually even be available??

Does anybody know of any other companies or sites that carry body kits or any other upgrades for the NEW S40. Because it is so new I have only found two sites that carry upgrades. Ipdusa.com and Heicosportiv.com I NEED MORE OF A VARIETY...somebody help!!

I am about to get a 2005 Volvo within the next month, I like better the looks of the S40 but obviously the S60 is one step above.
Can any one tell me which car is better knowing that the S40 has improvements on design and features.
What are the pros and cons of one and other?

Does anyone or has anyone been successful in removing the radio face plate on a new 2004.5 S40? I want to install a FM modulator for XM since the radio reception isn't what I would expect.

If you need help in removing any of the other panels or parts around the center console, I've been there, done that.

Gosssshhh!!! Volvo’s new S40 R is a brand new experienceeee…. I just loved the metallic silver color of it. Took it on a test drive and wwooOooHooOoo… the ride really rocked my world. The rear was so roomy and this is no doubt a very very solid piece of work. An excellent combo of style and brilliant performance.

I am from the London area. I think this question will go to anyone from the UK. ... I just bought a new S40 with the On-Call system. As i learned more and more about On-Call i became really amazed that such a thing existed and that i actually never heard of it before. And the service is free!!!! I think for two years... Maybe there is a catch somewhere and that might be the price . How much would I be paying for On-Call after the two years of free service expire?

I want to say that u guyz r doing faboulous job. I recently had this car and ma wife says that this was the first time i did sumthing to be apreciated. Me n and my wife r enjoying this car. I wud liek to say that nothing could be better then volvo's new S40.
