Hi Everyone, I just bought a S40 T5 last week and would like to upgrade to HID. i installed the HID but getting a low beam failure. I found a fix for it but having a hard time locating the CEM (Central Electronic Module). I already check under the dash of the driver and passenger side and no luck.. Is CEM and ECM the same?

driving around in a '06 S40 1.8 Sport. has anyone heard of or is using piggyback ecu's to increase fuel economy and engine performance? would like to get as much info as possible, especially those with experiences.

Hi everybody,

my wife currently has a medical condition that excempts her from wearing her seatbelt, can anyone advise how to disconnect the seatbelt reminder/chime, it drives her (and ME) crazy. Car is a brand new UK Spec V40 s (diesel)



Is it a simple fuse removal or does it require somthing more technical.

Please don't flame me but I really need to find out if the S40 existed in 1998. I've googled it and checked AllDataPro but can't find it or anything mentioning it.

I work for a company that rebuilds ABS Brake modules and had someone send in a Bosch 5.3 which is out of the AUDI and PASSAT vehicles, he is claiming that it is from a VOLVO S40 1998 but I can't verify it so figured I'd come here and find help.

Did the VOLVO S40 come out in 1998?

I'm looking for a good air filter. eVolve don't have this so I search on the global leader: K&N.

Fortunately, they have 2 options:

Air Filter part 33-2873 (this replace the stock)

Typhoon Kit (SR) 69-9000TP

This last one come with instructions and they indicates you can receive an improvement of 14.61 HP @ 3900 RPM (i don't believe that).

I already request a quotation and will keep this post updated as soon as I receive information from K&N.

I'm planning to add good breakes to the S40 (The HEICO disks and break pads are amazing) but I will try to search for some Brembo pads and disks.

The eVolve exhaust appears to provide better power but the HEICO are beautifull.

recomendation, tips and hints will be really appreciated.

I have a new S40 1.8 (1500 km) and and I order and put the genuine plastic cover under the engine to protect the engine from the dirty water and keep it clean.
Have I an overheating problems now ? In the summer time must I take it off ?

Hey everyone! I installed a Sirius S50 in my 06 S40. The positioning was going to be either where it is, or in front of the light control panel on the driver's side. I opted for this side because 1) I'm small and don't touch it at all and 2) someone in the passenger seat can see it. I think I'd have wanted it to be a touch higher, though. The base swivels so I have no problems getting behind the console.

Its using the FM modulator - didn't want to touch the sound system. This thing is great, it records broadcasts - though its menu navigation could really be improved. It also doubles as an MP3 player, and I have put my favorite crack on it.

I am SO happy to have Sirius back. Two months without the Chill channel was way too long.

Hi guys... I contact volvo boston in USA and they have the subwoofer for s40 (original) in about 500 usd. Additional items needs to be purchased like the power supply and optical cables.

Mexico dealer will install for 60 usd and I need to import the merchandise in mexico (this will be 110 usd for import, 100 usd for customs). Everything will need about 1000 usd !!! wow!

this will be the most expensive subwoofer ever!

i'm waiting now from volvo boston a confirmation to check if the equipment will fit in my car without any issue. They request me the YV serial number we can find in the computer or stickers.

With this data, in the database they can find if my car is ready for subwoofer and how many items i will need.

i will keep updated.

Hi... just want to give you all a heads up on this. I lowered my car with Eibach Pro-Kit springs about 6 months ago. After a couple of months I started feeling some vibration when accelerating at low speeds... after a while I felt it also when I accelerated at high speeds. I went to Volvo and even without checking it they told me it was probably the axles and that since I lowered the car the warranty would not cover it. They claim that when we lower the car we change the angle in the driveline and that can cause damage in the axles - cv joints. I called Eibach and they said it is not true. So I went to a second opinion at TK Performance and they told me it is not usual but it is possible, mostly if the parts are too weak for the power of the car. I don't have the time to fight Volvo or Eibach (I rather be driving :-) so I have already changed the CV joints (NOT AT VOLVO) and the car is fine now. Cost me about $800.

My car is front wheel drive but I am not an aggressive driver. I have lowered all my previous cars, Audis and BMWs, and never experienced this. All I can think is that the design and/or quality of the parts on the S40's driveline are not up to standard with the power it generates. I have the BSR PPC installed but the problem started way before I did that.

Just wanted to give you a heads up my friends.

Last Thursday on the way to work, I was unintentionally involved in a physics experiment... can a S40 and a 8 point buck occupy the same space at the same time

In case you are wondering, the answer is no. Buck and car do not fare well.

Ins has looked at it (but didn't remove anything or try to start it), so their estimate is not complete. It is at the body shop at my 'local' volvo dealer. They still have not been able to push it into the garage to break it down and finish finding everything that is broken.
From just looking at it, you can see the doors are tweaked. They had a guy that buys totaled volvos out to look at it today and he thinks the unibody is likely bent causing the tweak of the doors. The body shop hopes to get it in the garage tomorrow to look at it.

But what does a bent unibody mean?
The estimate the ins guy has is at $6500 already and the garage says they expect it to go up, but not enough to reach 75% of the value for a value based total. Ins estimate is mostly cosmetic, but doesn't do anything about the fact my car does not start now. The AC compressor clutch has been replaced 2x already (once because it died and the second time because the first dealer screwed up the install) - the deer took it out a third time
The bright side is that it didn't lose too much of the value since I bought it... a good chunk of it is mileage (82,000+ miles in 2 years) - though at the moment it is worth about $73.00

I have the sales team searching for a '06 or '07 S40 T5 AWD for me just in case it ends up totaled. I figure if I have to replace it, I'll upgrade to the T5 and go with the AWD

The wife and I are considering trading up to a new S40. We have had some problems on our 2002 since purchasing it in May (transmission, suspension, electrical and other items) and the dealership has been better than perfect with taking care of us. Anyone know what we can expect - maintenance, quality etc? I prefer to do my own oil changes but I've read where it can be a bear to do. Any input would be great!

Hey guys. Just thought I would register and ask you all a question about a S40 I have. We just picked it up the other day with the Premium Package, and Audio Package. Its flint gray with black leather. Its actually pretty nice. Well anyways, when I hold the unlock key down on the key fob, the windows wont roll down. We tried a 2004.5 S40 and the windows rolled down on that one but not on the 2005. Is there something I am doing wrong or what?

I just arrived home and pressed the button on my key to lock the doors on my 06 S40. As soon as I pressed the button the alarm started going off and would not stop.

I pressed every button on that key! I even put the key in the ignition and started the car. The alarm still wouldn't stop.

It would cycle by going off for about 20-30 seconds then quit for about 10 seconds before going off again for 20-30 seconds.

After 10 minutes it finally quit completely.

What's going on?

Of course my favorite part is hearing kids from the surrounding neighborhood yelling, "SHUT-UP!"

It seems the memory feature on my mirors on my 2006 S40 T5 with premium package does not work. I took the car in today to have them checked and was told the car does not have memory mirrors. I found this strange since it was supposed to be part of the premium package. Even the manual dscribes how they work. Any of you folks have the memory mirrors working. Have I been cheated out of a feature or is the dealer wrong and they need to be fixed?

Hi... just purchased the PPC and it is not installing. I followed procedure but I get a please wait message and no progress. I synchronized the PPC with the BSR server and I get the message of "unable to determine ECU type". Has anyone had this happen? Bo Engstrom is looking into it but I thought maybe someon had already gone through this.

just wondering if anyone knew if the gps antenna fin on top of car is hardwire to the dash somewhere or anywhere else, i would like to hook my GPS to that antenna instead of having in suction cup to my winshield, i would assume it would get better reception from the top antenna

WHERE IS THE CABIN AIR FILTER ON 2004+ S40 T5? HOW DO I REPLACE IT?

What's the best method that people have used to install satellite radio in their 2005 Volvo S40? Since there is no aux input jack and no antenna wire, I'm kind of limited. Any ideas? I see Sirius has the FM Extender Antenna (FEA) that brings the Sirius radio output closer to the vehicle antenna but that seems to be the best I can find.

Hello there. I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I have a 2005 S40 2.4i. My check engine light keeps coming on. Everytime I have the dealer check it, they tell me that it is because of my gas cap. I always make sure that it is on tight, but the light still comes on. I just wanted to see if anyone else has had the same experience (and is there anything that can be done).

I know the question has been partially raised but I’m about to take my care for service and I’m not sure what kind of oil Volvo is using when you request synthetic and they charge you for it, blah blah blah…
So this time I’d like to buy it before end.
Could someone tell me how much do I need to buy to change the oil on my S40 T5 and which is good quality fully synthetic oil?

i was wondering if anyone knows where the amplifier is located. i called and asked volvo and they told me its located in the trunk on the left hand side, and i tore everything apart and it wasnt there. i looked on the right side and found some wiring (what wiring is this? i think its for the stock sub volvo offers), but still no amp.. do you know where its located.? i want to add an RCA adapter through the speaker wire, and need to find the amp to do so....

My T5 came with the integrated phone and the premium audio system. Last week I decided to add the Volvo subwoofer for this system(Volvo also has to eload the software for the Audio system when u add things like subwoofer on). All I can say is wow . U open the boot and nobody knows any different. The unit replaces part of the packing round the spare wheel and is contained under the boot floor matt. It has its own power supply and amplifier (Active Subwoofer) and all I can say is that Volvo have definitely done their homework when it comes to audio reproduction in these new S40's. Now only if we could get a bloody propper iPod link for these cars.

I just crawled under my 2006 S40 2.4i to see what is involved in changing the oil.

The oil filter cannister is underneath the hood and requires a 36mm 6pt socket which I have purchased.

Apparently to get to the oil drain plug underneath you have to remove a large plastic cover which is hiding the drain plug.

This plastic cover is fastened with at least 6 screws. These screws have what appears to be 6 pt. slots as well. Anyone know what size will remove the screws?

Anyone know what's difference for the AWD system on the 07's S40 and the S60 or S80 except it's missing the instant traction function.

I have a 2006 S40 2.4i with 3,000 miles on the odometer. Last week I started hearing a higher pitched squealing noise upon cold start-ups. This noise increased in volume and speed as I drove the car and increased the engine speed.

I started it today with the hood open and engine compartment exposed. It appears to be coming from the belt or pulley that is on the passenger side. Perhaps it is the alternator belt?

If you are looking down at the engine it is to your left and towards the front.

The problem goes away after you drive the car for a while and is not heard again until the next cold start-up.

It seems like when you first start the car a funny sound comes from the dash. It sounds like a dog bark. It seems to come from the A/C and the climate control system. Has anyone else noticed this sound. Also, I have the upgraded sound and the speakers seem to rattel sometimes. Anyone have this issue or any solutions.

My 2006 S40's glove box got stuck. I read the info on this for other cars, but I think the s40 is different. I tried prying it open which failed and because I unlocked it, there is no lock bar at the front. Does anybody know the schematics of the S40 glove box or how I can get it open? Also is there a way to take out the s40 glove box?

I have a 2004.5 S40 T5 and have had a problem with the audio on my radio today. The radio seems to be picking up transmissions, however the volume controls are inactive and no sound is coming through the speakers. When I switch to a CD, the display reads "Paused," however I am not sure how to unpause it. There is nothing in the manual about it. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be? Thanks.

New to the forum and purchasing a volvo. Any advise on whether a S40 SE/Sport Diesel or a S60 S 2.4 Diesel? Have heard that the S60 is more comfortable, but the S40 is small. Also, can not connect IPOD in S40. Any views or advise?

I have a 2007 s40 2.4i and i also read in the manual about the global windows feature from the remote. I called my service manager to have it reprogrammed in but they keep telling me they cant do it. even after i gave them a product update number that says they can. did anyone else with an 06-07 have this done, or do you think i can bring it to a dealer that i did not purchase my car from and expect it to be free, seeing as how it says it in the manual?

When the car is off, there is a low level hum sound coming from the dash. Anyone know what that may be? Will it eventually drain the battery? The noise is emanating from behind the radio dispaly. If you touch the dash behind the a/c control panel you can feel the vibration from whatever is causing the hum or whir souund.

I read in the manual that holding the unlock button on the remote or holding the unlock button on the door will cause the side windows to lower. Mine does not work. Is there some setting i need to change for it to work?
