we have a 2000 S40 w/about 65k mi and just after we bought it the turbo line started to leak ( which i understand is a common prob) and shortly after the o-ring was changed it started to run like crap... better when it was cold out, worse when warm .. read codes @autozone came up w/#3 misfire so i changed plugs (#3 looked like crap) fuel filter and air filter w/marginal results. took it to local...

Went to the Volvo web site yesterday and noticed all info on the S40 model was gone. It had been there a day or two before. Seems rather odd to remove all mention of the car. What's up?

As i said in the introduction area, i've recently bought a Volvo S40.

I'm thinking of putting in my car an 7" touchscreen in order to operate a carputer, that will have multiple functions (GPS, Cellphone, MP3 player, Parking camera etc etc etc...)

The problem is that the center console of the car doesn´t have a spot for the touchscreen.

Has anyone here added a DAB to thier in car entertainment on the S40? if so what did you use? does anyone know of a system that can be added without removing the Volvo system?

Maybe someone might have a sugestion my tail lights are not working at night when my main lights are on, at the moment im using my fog light at dusk and dont go for long drives at night.

I have checked the bulbs but they seem to be fine filament in place etc, and there dosnt seem to be a reason that they would all go together anyway unless it is a fuse problem right>?

Okay so I bought my first Volvo, and I'm happy with it. A 2001 S40 1.9T. So now I'm wondering about it's origin. Why does it say on the engine compartment that it's made in the Netherlands, and not Sweden. I also noticed that alot of things in it are tagged "Made in Germany" What's up with that? how do I replace the headlight on a 2002 s40? do I need to replace the whole headlight assembly? or is it just the bulb taht needs to be replaced? if it's just the bulb how do I remove it?

I've just brought a 1999 volvo s40 T4.

When I lock the car with the remote, the led on the dash remains on permanently. However if I lock it with the key it flashes as it says it should do in the manual. I've checked and when the car is locked with the remote the car is deadlocked.

Any ideas?

Hi Tech. I posted a request a few wks ago about my s40's starting probs. Ive just spoken to the dealer re: 'speed sensor sheild' and they say this relates to 1.8's and not 1.6's. Further theyve looked through there tech manual and cannot see a sheild update for a 1.6.

99 S40 T4 has a very slight oil leak. How costly is it to purchace a new one. Any ideas what sort of turbo it is and are they easy to come by? Also is it possible to bolt on a different turbo) ,Is iot hard to do or a must for an expert.

I just bought a used S40 and there are two holes in the wipers water deposit and i dont know what is missing there, any one can help me, one hole is in the bottom and the other is about 4 inches above.

I would love to get my S40 over 225 horses and need to know how bout going to get that. What gives with the gas it seems like im getting 275 miles per tank is that normal or could something be wrong?

hey guys just a small one..Changing air filters from the box to the pod on a 99 S40 T4. Do you think or for that matter does it have any ill effects on the car EG making it rin to lean.

I am wondering if anyone knows what size lug nuts I nned to but for factory rims. I am missing one nut on two tires and I would just like to replace all of them but I dont want to buy the wrong size?

I have had some probs with starting my s40 2001 1.8. It has started normally on the button the hole time I have had it. Just recently only now and then I it takes a little longer to start around 4 secs??? doesn't seem to matter whether its cold or hot?? It has a full main dealer service history so everything has been changed when it should.

Hey, driving an 04.5 black on black T5. Been doing engine work and got around to the blow off valve and boost controller and apparently the car doesn't like them. The boost controller was interfering with the ECU. The car would drive but wouldn't boost at all. Due to the location go the turbo underneath all of the engine componetry there wasn't any room. Silly Swedish people....

I find the S40 ride good on a nice road but definately a bit unsmooth on averga eroads. Does seem to like several local bumps that my |Saab 9-5 used to take readily in its stride.

My Volvo is a high mileage example 135,000 on a V plate and if a bit of a harsh ride is normal then I will stop worrying about...

I have a 2001 S40 with the 1.8i 122 BHP petrol engine and I am experiencing the following:

I am getting cabin noise which I think is a wheelbearing but Volvo mechanics say road noise. I have had the car up on the jacks and cannot find any wheelbearing noise but I am sure it is not road noise.

Also, the electronics, ie., trip counter, onboard computer and time clock zero...

I tried to put a CD in my stereo today and the little motor wouldn't suck it in. I pushed it in a little manually, and when i hit the CD button it spits back out. Seems strange as the motor must be working to spit the CD out, but it won't take it in. I openned it up and there's nothing obvious there... any ideas what could be doing it? Thanks

I'm trying to remove the front dash (97 model) so I can get to the dash mounted central locking button. I've taken the stereo out, removed the screw down the bottom but I can't workout how to unscrew the air conditioning part so I can take the entire dash face off. Can anyone enlighten me on how to do it? Thanks

I have an 1.8 s40 sport with aslight clunk sound coming from the front sometimes when I pull away and sometimes when I slowing down. Its very very slight clunk and u can just about feel it throught the steering wheel: volvo specialist who just slags volvos off dont now why his bothers. said it was drive shaft or engine mounts >>> what do u reckon tech??

Thank god i found this website. I am a not so pround owner of the new Volvo S40 2004. Have been driving the car for the past six months and guess what? Visited the authorised dealer for 5 times to sort out the squeaks and rattles.

First Defect: Front driver and passenger seats seems to be squeaking every time i make my sharp...

I have an S40 1.9D and notice of late that there is a rattle/tin sound when I put on the heater. This seems to last until the car warms up and is very irritating. Anyone got any ideas on the cause?

I have a 2000 S40 and the passenger side headlamp has a broken alignment adjuster. Can this be fixed with a replacement adjuster or does the entire headlamp need replacing? This would be very expensive ($200.00+ installation) for a small plastic part.

I've been driving a new '05 S40 2.4i for the last week or so and noticed that the engine sounds very raspy when idling after a cold start-up.

After a minute it goes away, and the engine is very quiet when warm, but I'm wondering if this a common characteristic of the Volvo I5 engine?
