My indicators and the hazard light are not blinking and I need to replace the turn indicator/hazard relay. Where is it located and how do I get to it?

I am planning to install a car kit into my S40, possibly hooking it up to the SC 805 stereo. Can anyone advise the most suitable way to power the car kit? Also does anyone know of a connector I can use to interface directly with the stereo?

My father is out in my driveway right now trying to install rear brakes into my 2001 volvo s40. I read the topic about the caliper thingy (can you tell I'm new at this? ) and he can't seem to get the brakes off.

Do you have any advice?

need help please,, i just fitted a new head gasket because i had oil water mixin,, i just strated it up today and it's chucking oil out of the dip stick is there anything i could have put on wrong or anything i could have missed that would do this ,,any help would be great cheers

Is there meant to be an electronic fuel display beneath the manual fuel and temperature dials on the 2000 s40 1.6? There looks like there is one but I see nothing on it, unlike the displays beneath the rev count and the speedo. (clock and mileage).

To those of you who've installed an aftermarket alarm system on your 2000-2004 S40 (and also have NOT had the factory alarm physically removed from the car):

1) do you have any problems getting the alarm to work correctly with your car?

2) do all the features such as automatic relocking of driver side door after 2 minutes, auto locking of the gas door, and the interior lights FADING in or out as you unlock/lock the car also work correctly after installing an aftermarket alarm?

3) Also, what alarm do you have (be specific) and where did you purchase it?

I'm asking all of this because I've talked to everyone from the dealer to Circuit City to mom-and-pop installation shops and I'm getting conflicting answers as to whether or not everything will work right with an aftermarket alarm and my 2004 S40.

Can anyone tell me how the auxillary fan on the 00-04 model is mounted on the condenser? The aux fan only has 4 holes and there are no mounting provisions on the condenser....can someone take a pic so I can see how it is mounted?

im having strange noises coming from rear of my s40, a mechanic that has done work on the suspension before now says it needs 2 new coil springs. im not sure what to do. i have had a look at the top mounts hidden behind the rear seats, the drivers side is very secure whereas the passenger one is slightly loose, i mean there is give in it when i try to move it left to right. is this normal ? does this show wear in the springs or is it something else ? i was just worried that the mechanic hadnt put the suspension assembly back together properly when he worked on it last. help is very very welcomed...regards from ireland .......

i currently own a s40 2001. im wondering whether i am able to fit on the latest volvo s40 grille(black square box design) on my 2001 s40 volvo. if i purchase the 2005 s40 grille do i need to mod it? or is it a perfect fit (juz screw and unscrew)

Hi - curious problem developed yesterday with our 2001 S40 2 litre UK bought Volvo that's currently running around in 35'C + heat in Spain.

When the air-con is switched on the engine idle speed rockets from the usual 700 - 1000 rpm up to between 2,500 - 3, 000 rpm. Turn the air-con off and the idle speed drops again! Bit frightening if you're driving with the air-con on, take your foot off the accelerator and the car doesn't slow.

Our nearest main dealer is 3 hour round trip away and they can't get the car in until 9.40am on 24 July. In the meantime they've suggested driving the car with air-con off and windows open!!!

Any ideas???

any 1 no where i can down load wiring diagrams from for 95 s40

Turning indicators don't work unless you lightly press the hazard switch. It is not the flasher unit as it has been changed twice. Does anyone have a suggestion???

Hi, I have an 1999 1.8xs (s40) and i have a problem. When i go into second gear my reverse lights come on. ( they also come on in reverse as well)

Now i have just had the sensor changed and that did not fix it.

Anyone have any ideas about what could be causeing this or had this before ? any help whould be great.

im having over heating problems, did a pressue test for leaks everything fine, did a head gasket test, heads ok. them mechanic bleeded pipes and there was an air lock this was a few weeks ago today it over heated again,

i checked for air lock by bleeding it and no air and the screw for bleeding snapped off, so i probably need new component that the screw for bledding is in wont i? or could i take it to mechanic to take it out so i could just buy a screw only?

anyway away from that i would like to know if it could be the thermo stat r wot? cos it doesnt have any air in?

I have removed the plastic cover and I can see the rack hiding the injectors, but I cannot see where the plugs are?

Hi to you all, i am a mechanic in Romania and one of my clients came with a broken engine. I need specifications on the variable transmission for a s40 from 2000 1.6 engine. I need valve distances setup, oiling, transmission and this kind of stuff. Anyone can help me ? I need professional advice!

My back bumper has droped about half an inch of the brackets, how do i get at the brackets to re-attach it. Do i have to remove the the plastic trim to get at it?

Please help cause everytime i go over a bump it squeaks and its drivin me nuts.

really need some help im gettin lots of oil in my 98 s40 t4 header tank can it be anything else other than the head gasket or should i just rip the head off and get crackin?? any help would be great thanks

Is it a common fault with the 1999 2.0T? Or does mine just like going through turbo oil feed pipes to P*** me off?

This is the 3rd one to go on me, and they always leak from the same place, there's a banjo bolt on the end of the oil feed pipe where it fits onto the top of the turbo, this is either sweated onto the pipe itself or soldered. It's leaking from here, so it's not a washer, there's a hairline crack on the pipe itself just before the soldered / sweated joint.
+ Other probs too, such as loads of creaking / rattling coming from the front end, it's not bushes / suspension / steering parts / loose panels or fittings /brakes or engine mounts.

Well and truly stumped.

I just bought my Volvo S40 three days ago. On my way to get the oil changed yesterday, the check engine light came on and now will not start. I called the salesman, who picked up the car and told me he will call me on Monday after his guy "checks it out". Any ideas on what the problem could be? The car did not come with an owners manual, so I could not look it up. I waited a ling time ti finally get a Volvo, and hope I did not get a dud. Any suggestions?

I bought a Ctools fault Code reader on E_ay.My check engine light came on again,so I hooked it up and it gave me a code that read: 01,02,03.So I looked it up under 123 code,is this the way you put the numbers together?,or im I doing it wrong?anyways I looked up the fault code 123,and gave me: Throttle Position Sensor A Circuit High Input.Those anyone know what this means and what it does?any good ideas would help,thanx.................edgar

Ran into a minor, but costly accident on the highway.

S40 2001
-Lost rear bumper mold ? (The unit with the mouldings and lights, don't know the name)
-Engine compartments all shifted and bumped.

I must have hit something in the ditch, because my front spoiler was bent upwards and my right light pops out eradically, plus the hood doesn't close. Body work is estimated $6000, engine work needs to be done (needs to be serviced ? who knows, the light is on).

So since the volvo people know best, while i'm getting it fixed, I'm going to ask u experts whether its worth it or not for the following conversions / modifications:

-After market bumper unit vs Stock market Bumper unit
-Dual Exhaust System, more or less 2 tail gate exhaust with exhaust pipes
-Dual Turbo
-K&N Air Filter with Cold Air intake
-Add 2 more spark heads / cylinder
-Conversion to Manual
-Edit 1: Could it be possible to switch the engine to a new one (say, T4 engine or even the S60?) in case the current engine's really screwed ?
-Edit 1: Rear Sway bar to make the handling more neutral instead of being tight

Sounds extensive I know. And plus i'm just a university student. But i figured hey, this is the car i'm going to drive to its death, i might as well fix everything while i'm in it.

Can anyone tell me what the recommended power steering fluid is for a '97 S40, as its leaking a bit and I don't have an owners handbook for it yet.

Hi there I just noticed that the dipped beam on my s40 is not working on the passenger side of my s40.


I am wondering how can I check what the prolem is. I have looked at the fuse and it appears to be ok.

I have not taken out the bulb as I think that it is one of thoes very expensive ones and I might damage it.

THere is no light on the dashboard telling me if a buld is blown.

Hi guys. I have been driving my 2001 S40 now for a few months and i must say i am pretty happy with the ride and handling of it. Anyway, i am annoyed by the minor peevs. Like my hob logo. It's fallen off and i can't find a replacement . Can anyone help me with these? And where the heck is the pause button. It's bad for my cd's if i was to shut down playback while the play. hello i have a 2003 volvo s40 non turbo and a realy strange noise started to sound from my engine like a siren but when i remove the oil cap or dipstick the sound stops also a lot of sucking of air is produced from dipstick or oil cap i recently added a turbo to my car what have cause dthis problem or how can i fix it.

first i cheched the PVC with my volvo mecanic and it is fine then they checked the engine compression and they are fine no one know the problem please help me out

hi these is another inquery that i want to make my car is a 2003 s40 non turbo manual trans. and i am interested in swaping my engine to the USA version 1.9 turbo engine does any one know if this is possible and if so what would i need, i was thinking the ecu and stuff please let me know if some one knows if it can be done

Hi, I have a 2002 V40 and after installing my fog lamps I can't get them to turn on. I'm told I need VADIS and the connectors/cable.

I see the connector costs a small fortune if bought from VOLVO.

Is there any way to make my own assembly for attachment to my laptop or is there a place to buy one economically?

This is my first post on this very active forum.
I have a 1998 S40T Auto with about 145000kms on the clock.
It starts instantly when cold but when I restart with the motor warm it fires and then idles down to about 400rpm and stops. Sometimes it idles down and then speeds up to normal idle speed.
I've had a new fuel pump and pressure sensor.
If I press the throttle when it fires and keep up the revs for a while it stays running, usually but not always.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, just installed a racing cat to a 2004 S40 2.0T, after using it for a week engine check light came on. Any ways to doing a universal reset, have tried taking out positive batt terminal out for half an hour but was unsuccessful. Anyone with answers, awaiting for your favorable reply.

I have looked at the stickies and they are very useful, but is there anything specific to this model to look out for?

I went to look at one yesterday which was nice but very basic. Can the 'toys' be easily added afterwards from a scrappy or is it too complicated?

I am looking at one soon with 140,000 on the clock. Is it foolish to even consider this?

finally got my car back with the plan to fix her myself. but i noticed she has a vibration i can't pick up. it's as if the engines running rough, but she sounds fine. and it wasn't like this when she went to volvo. she hadn't run in nearly a month, but it's wierd. the chassis fine. only damage to the headlight mount on the outrigger. so it's not an alignment problem. and the steerings fine so it can't be from the driveshaft pushing the engine to one side. dispite the lower wishbone being bent a bit she drives fine. can't understand it. when i rev over 1500 it gooes away. could it be the throttle sticking? or the fact the battery went dead? help please. i don't want another huge bill!

We're having problems in getting the bonnet on my 1997 S40 (2.0 SLi Auto) open. We think that either the bonnet cable is snapped at the bonnet release lock or the lock itself is seized. Has anyone else come across this problem? Any ideas on how to get the bonnet open?

Hi, I have a '97 S40. The left near side headlight is faulty......mmm It developed an intermitent wipe and now just parks in an odd position facing up. I have undone the nut and re positioned it in the parked position but would like any views on why it started playing up and how it might be fixed. Many thanks

having gone through the utter nightmare of sorting the s40 from her nasty little run in with the pug, i now feel myself drifting into the realm of 'what next?'. the cost of repairing her at volvo's not too far below what i'll get of the insurance, and i know the suspension's damaged, but it's not in the quote. i can repair it all myself, having done this type of work before, but if any more gremlins turn up i won't be able to afford to pay. i'm on the borderline for being able to fix her economically. i also know the one car i would sell her for is now in my price range and insurance group.
another annoyance is that i'm due to come into some extra finance in the next year or so, that will allow me to own both. i know i'd regret scrapping the volvo, especially if i can afford both. i'm tempted to fix her, and damn the expence, but i doubt my bank will agree! i can afford to get her fixed to new if i borrow of my sister, but i hate being in debt, especially to family members. i'm getting her transported back next week since i have the week off. i can spend some time checking her over and maybe starting work. i don't really see the point in paying £1225 in labour to volvo to do something i can do myself, even if it affects the resale value. maybe i'll wait and see. i can do it in one weekend so it's not too much of a rush. if anyone has parts out there i'll be interested. i just want it over and done with.
