i have a 04 s40 and im wondering what are some good speed upgrades? i have a new k and n air filter, but im wondering if a cold air intake is worth it..also exhausts..any suggestions?

Got a p-reg (1997) Volvo S40 - got it 2 days ago - and the SRS light is permantly on when Im driving - I know this usually means take it to a Volvo dealer but I can't be bothered and im sure there is a way to clear the light myself !

Can anyone help ????

How can I clear the light - and / or read the fault codes and clear them...

Hi everyone,

Apologies for the long post, I need some advice on a new volvo I am about to buy.

Today I've been to Beckland Volvo (Birmingham CC dealer)

They have some Volvo S40 Classic sports, 3 in total. 1.8, 2.0 autos and a diesel auto.

The one I liked was a metallic black 1.8 automatic priced at £12,993.

After speaking to a salesman he said they were the last S40 classics as the New S40 had replaced them. (no problem with that)

He told me the car; an 04 plate was brand new, a pre-registered vehicle and I would be the very first owner as it only had 17 miles one the clock.

From the brochure the list price and extras on the vehicle came to a £18600, apart from the Auto transmission (£1100 extra) the list price of about £15700 I'm not sure how he come up with the figure of £18600.

I took the S40 classic 2.0 out for a test drive as he could not get the car I wanted out for some reason. He said all the features of the car was the same if not more on the one I was interested in.

I then took a drive over to the renault garage to look at some megane. Compared to the "new" volvo the megane was cheap taccy clothe and I much preferred the volvo.

We (my wife and I - well more me) decided on the Volvo, I called the salesman and arranged for me to go back in tomorrow to pay a deposit and in the meantime he out a sold sign on it.

I've got home tonight and had a quick look in the net (www.testdrivemag.co.uk) states the S40 classic sports price is only £13,500. and another site says £16-£17k

I logged onto the http://www.volvocars.co.uk and could only find the New S40, a link to http://www.volvoselectedusedcars.com/ web site and did a search for the S40 classic and for my car.

It suggests my car actually has 241 miles and is a used car. I tried calling the garage to confirm but it was closed.

Basically I am now wondering exactly what the OTR price is, how much I'm actually saving and I'd like to know more importantly if the car and the price £12,993 is a good price or not??

Again, apologies for the long message but I need to know as I dont want to go spending £13k of my hard earned dosh if I'm getting a back deal.

look i know your not suppose to go over 70 mph. but when you do. at about 85/95 the exhurst seems to get louder anyone know why

TRYING TO FIND AN AFFORDABLE REMOTE STARTER THAT WORKS FOR MY 04.5 S40. CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS?

As soon as I start my car there is a intermittent audible thumping/knocking sound that last for about a second. It seems to be coming from the right side of the engine. It sounds like something is stuck and is being forced open like a vent. I took it to my dealer and he ran diagnostics and could not duplicate the problem. Is it also normal to hear mechanical sounds when you turn on and of HVAC controls?

My friend has a W reg 2000 S40 1.6 S and he has recently taken the seats out and replaced the foam seat units under the covers with a pair from a 2001 s40 which had the heated elements attached to the and has put all the switches in etc. H e was very careful when removin gthem but now the air bag warning light is onn all the time??? Does he need to get a Volvo techy to reset them or something ???

Tech have you got any ideas??

I am looking at a 2001 S40 with 22,000 miles on it. I've read reviews and looked at the Consumer Reports rating, and have seen a lot of concerns about the brakes wearing out extremely fast. I would love to hear some real S40 drivers experiences in this department.

I also read quite a few complaints about the paint fading quickly. Any comments?

I really like this car and am almost ready to make an offer but want to do as much research as possible.

I verified that my turbo oil return tube is leaking where it goes into the block only. It looks like you have to take off two metal shields/guards, a one silver that bolts to a black shield that protects the half shaft as it goes into the transmission. Can someone verify that these have to come off to get to the two bolts for the return tube on the turbo itself.

Hi I just wanted to know if the oil changing on an S40 is very difficult. I was wondering because Id like to start using synthetic oil and Id like to do it myself. Anybody have any adivce or dificulties they might have had while changing the oil in their S40's?

I've just bought a S40 T4, but haven't driven yet as I'm still waiting for insurance, tax bits etc.

My current/previous car is a Subuaru Impreza, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this car compares , but from what I've heard it'll knock its socks off !!

Has anyone replace the CD/Radio Cassette before ? If you remove the installed one, do you get a great hole ? does it look unsightly ?

Also, the car is just under 3yrs and has done 85k miles !! Is there anything I should be looking out for in terms of wear at this stage ? Its just had a service and mot.

Hi peeps

My windscreen washer bottle motor has decided to pack up. Unortunatley i don't want to take of the under tray just to put a test meter on it to find there is nothing wrong with the motor itself. (last resort) But call me stupid if you must (i've been called worse) I can't seem to find the fuse for this I've checked the under bonnet fuse box and the small one under steering wheel, but none of them jump out at me and say washers or similar.

The car is a 1998 S40 SE 2.0

Just bought the S40i, love it, it feels solid, and tight, and with the gas prices pushing the $2.50 USD for premium gas , it is nice to drive using the mid grade, or in a pinch the "regular" octane gas. It has a bit of a learning curve, what with all the electronic programs available, but not so that it is confusing. Looking forward to reading from you, and what you are experiencing with Volvo, now that it is part of the Ford Family.....

I own a V70 (1997) … now I lamost have approx. 70 to 65m miles on the vehicle…wota real piece of luxury this has been. Mostly I’d look after it maslef, once in a week or every fortnight I’d work on it and do the necessary repairs….wot I plan to do now is to go fer a better warranty package its like 23m for 1200$. Jus need some opinions if I should go fer it……..orrrrr not??

Me and one of my frend did “car shopping” together. And amongst the 2 I had been the luckier one, rather luckiest one. He got a Honda Accord while I chose to go fer s40. n now I hear him grumbling about his car almost every day.. sometimes his car’s transmission wud jus refuse to work, sometimes the windows or the steering wud give him the tuffest time .. n me..?? my S40 makes me proud. I recommend this to any one.

I need a neww car buddies … I was scanning all the possible ones that I could buy, uptill now Volvo’s S40 has been on da top ov my priority lizt…coz it haz got a different feel to it, a smooth ride, economically it suits my budget too, pretty responsive car.

I’ve got this 2002 model of S40 and oh my!!!..Its so sporty, it’s so stylish, it so speedy, it’s everything up to date. It has got so comfy seats and handles well. Acceleration speed is like if I am taking off on a Concord.. yaaaey!

I've gota 97 volvoS40... my car engine’s gas distribution belt got broken... n I m afraid that the valves are damaged too. When I tried to start the engine after the belt was broken, it won't start. Can anyone tell me if this is the reason why my engine has refused to function? Even when I have replaced the belt...?

I've got a Volvo S40 (1996) and it has got a very complicated problem in its gear. In order to put the reverse gear I have to engage the first or second gear first and only then would I be able to reverse my car. My reverse gear doesn't work until and unless I put it in first or second gear.

I have got some problems with my 2000 S40, and the major one of these is regarding the rear brakes. I don't even have 18k miles on my tachometer as yet and they need a replacement. The dealers say that it's absolutely normal because the organic pads wear out at a faster rate as compared to the other pads. All of my life I have been dealing with various cars but I've never faced such kinda problem. I'd be really thankful to any one who can give me some nice solution to this problem.

I bought s40 on May 2002, Now its mileage is 10500.
1. The roof window doesn't close sometimes.
2. Cruise control doesn't work sometimes (It is terribly)
3. Cd does not work about 5 hours

My previous car was more reliable.

Does anybody have had these problems also?

I have S40 (2000, 25000 miles) Both head lamp broke. Is this a problem with S40's? I've never had to replace lamp on any car. Could I do it myself? Is it difficult? Thanks!
