Because of repair on my S40 1996 I removed the negative battery wire. After connecting the wire again there has not been any information in the instrument cluster (speedometer, tachometer, petrol, temperatur, the displays for amount of km and the clock)?
The fuses are all ok and all other functions in the car works normal (including alarm lamps) now for 14 days.

Help! I broke my power antenna and the car wash and ordered a replacement. Step 1 says to remove the nut the is holding the mast in outside of the car. The nut turns and goes up the bolt it then gets near the top but will not come off. It just keeps turning and turning while it stays in place. Is there a trick to getting this nut to come off so I can remove the old mast?

I have a 1997 S40 T4 and when I pull my foot off the accelerator to change gears the engine revs take a few seconds before they start to decrease ie if I push the clutch in at the same time as I remove my foot from the accelerator the engine revs up instead of down. I dropped my original remote to my 2001 S40 enough times and the case cracked and broke so that it won't stay on my key ring. The remote still works fine. Is is possible to buy a replacement or find a used remote on ebay and then just take the case off that one and put it on mine? If I can do that, how do you take apart the case?

i have now driven my car for around 1500 miles since i bought it. This has included a trip to scotland from the east midlands. 820 miles in two days.

car had just had oil and filter when i got it, so was up to the max mark on the dip stick.

ok, i have snapped the lever that allows the rear seats to be folded down! so seat is locked in the up postion and i cant get it down to access the mechanism.

any one got any ideas - i'm sure its a pretty straight forward fix, with a replacement part from the breakers.

i have had this issue a couple of times since buying s40 t4 on 7th july.

car struggles to start and has even cut out. re-try and a couple of pumps on gas pedal keeps it running - will run rough for a couple of seconds then runs fine.

99.9% car starts on first turn of key. this only seems to happen if i have put redex or similar injector / fuel system...

In the last two days my engine has gotten extremely loud, it's only when I accelerate, hence I don't think it's a muffler problem. I've also noticed that it appears to be going through gas at an alarming rate (really helpful with $4 gas). Any ideas as to what this could be?

Exhaust buzzes at exactly 1700rpms only.
Stops if I press against the exhaust system from Tailpipe to the cat. Dosn't seem to be pressing against a heat shield or the underside of the body. All rubber supports seem OK and joining bolts tight.

I just got back from vacation to find the battery on my 2003 s40 dead. (the glove box was left open.) I'm trying to recharge the battery but once I get the charger turned on the alram goes off. I have just taken out my standard air filter to replace it with a K&N panel filter.

The bottom of the factory air box is covered in a thin layer of grey foam. Is this required? surely it is just a further restriction.

i have recently bought a 99 S40 T4 with 82k on the clock.

i have almost full service history print out from volvo - the 80k service was done at about 67k. would this have been a timing belt service? there is no sticker on the engine. there is no history after this.

Yesterday when I drove and tried to turn on the indicator, I found the turning signal on the instrument panel and the four light bulbs couldn't be turned on and work any more. I Have a problem with my volvo s40 -98.
The washer pump for the windows & headlights run continious as well as the
vipers for the head lights.

I suspect that a relay has got stuck (burned).
I have removed the fuse for the window wipers & the electrical liguid washer pump (same fuse) to prevent the electrical pump burning.
