I had my 2008 c30 broken into last night. they smashed out the passenger side door window. the alarm never went off. The alarm was still set when I discovered it broken into this morning.

Im wondering is there a way i can get into my playlists via the c30's computer using the ipod on usb mode? ive got so many songs.

Or better yet how can i organize my songs on my ipod so they play in the order i want in my car? do they have to be in a certain play list?

I dont want to stumble across a dozen death metal tunes to get to my love songs when my ladys in the other seat.

I'm new to this forum. I purchased a 2008 C30 2.4i last month. I just love it.
I noticed one night that when I removed the key from the ignition, then locked the doors, the headlights were still on, BUT, no audible warning.

There's no mention of this in the manual. I'm wondering if anyone else experienced this.
Do I have a fault. How does your C30 respond to this situation?

What kind of alarm do you have? What brand-name alarm do you have? What are the capabilities of it? Does it only chirp or do extra other things (like a perimetric protection of your vehicle, pre-warning chirps for potential thefts, turbo timer, start of engine etc.).

Volvo C30 Polestar - Autocar test and review

I'm thinking of getting a C30 as my next car. I originally was looking at the VW GTI, but the Volvo looks a little more refined to me and not so much like an econo-box shape as the GTI. I also like the looks of the interior as well. One thing I was wondering about was the width of the hatch. How wide is it? It looks fairly narrow, and I was wondering that would tend to be a problem if I wanted to haul larger boxes from the store. Anyone know the width offhand? I currently drive a Miata right now and can haul next to nothing (unless I can drive with the top down), so anything will be an improvement, but the GTI seems to have a wider hatch and that might be desirable as well. Also, how reliable are these cars? I'm probably looking at new or low mileage 2009 models.

405 horsepower !!

It's probably the most talked about Volvo in a decade (if not longer) and the Swedish automaker has just released a new video highlighting the many awesome aspects of the Polestar Performance C30 Concept. In case you missed our first post on this car, the extra spicy hatch is in many ways like the Ford Focus RS500 – with a turbocharged 5-cylinder engine making 405-hp and 376 ft-lbs of torque. It also gets AWD with font and rear limited slip differentials, Brembo brakes and an Ohlins suspension setup.

As for the look of the car, it's based on the Polestar Racing STCC (Swedish Touring Car Championship) C30 race car. Polstar also offers a line of aftermarket parts for Volvo cars.

But why read when you can watch? The video takes us through many of the car's impressive details, with interviews with Derek Crabb, Volvo's vice president of powertrain engineering and the executive director of motorsports engineering, as well as Polestar managing director Christian Dahl.

Volvo C30s has been very successful. Interest for Volvo’s smallest model has further increased, which is reflected, not least, in rising sales figures.

“We have decided to continue. We have plans for additional exciting campaigns in future,” says Bengt Junemo.

Up to now, Sweden and Finland are the markets that have offered their customers the opportunity to order patterned Volvo C30s. Now, other Volvo markets would like to follow suit. Japan, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, Rumania, England, Denmark, France and Switzerland have also shown interest.

Volvo Car Corporation and Polestar will begin this year's Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) season on 24 April at Jyllandsringen in Denmark. The ambition is to defend both the driver and team championship titles. At centre stage in this ambition is the new race car.

"This is the fastest Volvo I've ever driven," says Volvo Polestar driver Robert Dahlgren.

At first sight, the most striking thing about the new car is its new front end. Just like the production version, the new race car has a front end which is longer, lower, wider... and meaner-looking. And more important still, the new design delivers a higher ground pressure at the front, and an improved airflow right around the car.

"We've worked very hard to take full advantage of the new C30 facelift, spending countless hours in the wind tunnel at Volvo Cars in the process," says Jan Andersson, Technical Director of the Volvo Polestar team.

Even more track testing to help secure new victories
In 2009, Volvo and Polestar were the fastest team in all the qualifying sessions, and won half of all the race heats. The key to that success was an extensive pre-season testing programme. In the run-up to the 2010 season, their testing programme has been even more intensive. The team has already clocked up 3,000 kilometres of track testing with the new race car. Compare that with the 150 kilometres or so that each driver covers in the course of a normal STCC race weekend!

"We've gone over every single aspect of the new car - front and rear suspension, engine and aerodynamics. We want to be absolutely sure of all the improvements, and also to confirm the reliability of all the new and revised components," says Christian Dahl, Team Manager for the Volvo Polestar team.

In the STCC to win
Volvo Cars recently extended its agreement with Polestar right through to the end of the 2012 season. This was confirmation of the car-maker's confidence in Polestar to develop and race its official entries in the STCC. What comes next are 18 gruelling events - a battle for those 450 possible points.

Derek Crabb, Director of Motorsport at Volvo Car Corporation, sounds extremely confident of success. "In 2007 we proved together that a race car can win using a greener fuel, when we pioneered bioethanol in racing instead of petrol. The following year we proved that the fastest car does not arrive in a box from Germany or the UK. And last year we proved that our green DRIVe technology, as found in our production models, could also outperform everything on the race track. All of our staff and all of the Volvo Polestar fans can now see for themselves exactly what we are prepared to venture and just what we can do. That is worth far more than just points in a competition."

Pre-facelift C30.

In late 2006, the C30 was launched in Europe. Engines choices range from a 1.6L inline-4 (petrol or diesel) to a 2.5L inline-5 turbo (2.4L diesel). 2009 added the choices of a 6-speed PowerShift dual-clutch automatic with the 2.0 L petrol and diesel engines, a 1.8L E85 flex-fuel engine, and 1.6L "DRIVe" diesel engines with improved efficiency and optional start/stop capability. Trim lines include SE and SE Lux in the UK, and Kinetic, Momentum, and Summum (from fewest to most features) in most other European nations.

Hello to all,

I am about to order my first Volvo c30 R-design. I am looking at getting almost every option except the back-up assist. I would like to know your take on this. Also are there any options that are must gets or should not gets?

I like the idea of the eye glass case, but it seems over priced. Does anyone know if I could get one any cheaper?

I bought my Volvo C30 2.4I in Canada and picked it up at the Volvo Factory in Gothenburg Sweden last summer. Great experience and a great car.
I have one problem: Occasionally the car wont start. Display shows "Car immobilized see manual". Have had it to the dealer twice. Still no luck car will not start about once a week. What to do? Dealer says that no one has ever had this problem. Is he right?

Volvo will present a battery-powered electric C30 at the Detroit Auto Show in January, with plans to build a test fleet of 50 vehicles for real-world testing in 2011.

The model being shown in Detroit will be further along the development process than the prototype previously presented in September at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

“The first prototype helped us identify the main technological challenges, such as battery packaging and safety issues. We have addressed these challenges without compromising the C30’s cool and fun-to-drive personality. I am very happy with the result. The electric C30 in Detroit is a much more complete product,” says Lennart Stegland, Director of Volvo Cars Special Vehicles.

Volvo will begin building the test fleet in 2010 before handing the keys over to selected users for a two-year trial.

Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the electric C30 can reach a top speed of /81 mph and a range of 94 miles. Volvo says the electric C30 can go from 0 to 60 in 11 seconds.

The battery can be charged through a regular household power outlet with eight hours needed for a full charge.

I am driving since a short time a C30 with geartronic and I am quite curious and I would like to know if you can, without harming any technical part of the car, switch the geartronic from automatic into manual mode during the drive ???

Let me explain, when I drive a bit faster and I am entering a curve while driving in automatic mode it takes too long for the geartronic to give me power to overcome the curve in a proper way. When I am already out of the curve then only the engine comes up to change the gear and gives the proper power.

But if I could switch before the curve to manual mode, get my power and then afterwards back to automatic without of course breaking the geartronic that would be great. Until now I didn't tried it as I do not know if it's safe for the gear and engine to do that ???

LOL ... hope I explained my question good enough.

The Volvo C30 will get a much needed facelift for 2010, debuting at the Frankfurt Auto Show next week alongside the modernized C70.

"Since its introduction in 2006, the Volvo C30 has become highly appreciated for its unique appearance. This applies in particular to the rear. With the new front, it feels as though everything has fallen neatly into place and that the car's entire personality has been boosted to an entirely new level," says Daniel Backman, Product Manager for the new Volvo C30.

We're not sure we agree with the comments about the car's back-end, but the new front certainly adds a bit more style to the C30, helping it appeal to its intended young-buyer audience. Much of the design cues have been taken from Volvo's progressive new XC60 crossover.

The new front end features not only a new bumper and grille, but also new headlights. A new rear end is also a part of the redesign, using colored panels, as opposed to black plastic ones, while on T5 models large 90mm exhaust tips will be included. A new Orange Flame Metallic paint job (pictured above) will also be offered, as will white wheels.

Volvo has also decided to offer a long list of interior trim options to customers, with items like an Espresso/Blonde two-tone interior, as well as Cranberry leather.

In addition a sport chassis will be offered with stiffer bushings, a tighter steering ratio (by 10 percent) and springs that are 30 percent stiffer as well.

We'll be sure to bring you more on this new model live from the Frankfurt Auto Show starting September 15th.

I recently purchased the C-30 R-Design package with dual xenon Active Bending Headlamps (ABL). The headlamps work exceptionally well at night in the glare of on-coming traffic. But the ABL feature does not appear to work. I realize the feature is disabled during the day. Is the ABL option speed sensitive? What else might inhibit the ABL?

Volvo will show an all electric version of its entry-level C30 hatchback at the Frankfurt Auto Show this September. News of the expected unveiling comes from the U.S.’s AutoCar, saying that the model will be displayed and driven at the Innovation for Life event, which will take place shortly after the auto show.

Interestingly, Volvo has no plans to put the car into production, similar to how it (apparently) never had any plans to bring the C30-based Recharge Concept (shown above) to market. That model was a plug-in electric hybrid (PHEV), whereas this model will be a pure electric vehicle along the lines of the upcoming Nissan LEAF.

The car is part of a larger initiative by Volvo to explore the possibility of bringing pure electric vehicles to market. Currently Volvo has made clear that it will bring a plug-in diesel hybrid version of the V70 wagon to market by 2012.

I didn't see this posted elsewhere, so I figured I'd share.

I went looking for a K+N replacement air filter a couple weeks ago, and the local advance auto didn't have anything listed for the c30, other than a basic purolator filter.
There are no K+N part numbers at all for any c30 according to their computers, but they do have one for the 07 s40 t5. I took a chance and had one ordered (no volvo parts in stock, i guess).

I can confirm that the 07 s40 t5 filter fits the c30 just fine. I assume it will fit any s/v40/v50/c30 (06+) with the t5.
Acceleration is noticeably smoother and you can tell the engine is breathing better. I havn't measured gas mileage improvements, but if i had to guess maybe an extra mpg or so.
Either way, i'm not worried, i like the new feel much better.

Hello. I'm new to this forum, so here goes. I have a 2008 C30 with Geartronic trans. I love it so far. I live in California USA. I was considering changing out the stock exhaust with a performance "cat-back" exhaust from "EVOLVE" http://www.evolvecars.com I would get it installed at a pro muffler shop too. If I were to do this, would I void any of my 4 year Volvo warranty if any future engine problems should come up? Same question with a cold air intake system such as "K & N". Thanks...

I've had my 2008 C30 T5 for 2 weeks now, went driving in the rain the other day and... the sunroof leaks!!!!

It's a fairly constant dripping from the back 2 corners of the sunroof into the space between the outside roof and car ceiling. The sunroof was closed a couple of days ago using the automatic full closing function so not a user problem. Luckily I spotted the leak in time and put paper tissue into soak it up!

I've noted on a number of other blog sites that leaking is a know problem for the C30 (albeit around the doors appears more common):

I've just became a new owner of C30. I have just bought it a month ago. After my two visits of the gas station I am just really curious what is the actual volume of the fuel tank?? I've been filling the tank when the indicator of the fuel was lit and the arrow showed that the tank is almost empty. But both times I could not put even 11 gallons of the gas. In the users guide I found that the fuel tank volume is 15.9 gallons which sounds a bit strange to me since I could only fill it with 11 gallons. Then rambling in the internet I found some C30 specifications with following info: 15.9 gallon main premium unleaded fuel tank 13.2. So 13.2 gallons sound more reliable to me but still what does 15.9 gallons mean? Does anybody know what is the actual fuel tank capacity?

I just got a new C30 about a week and a half ago. It has been parked outside in the GA heat and just last week I noticed little bubbles all over the paint. When we scraped at it with a fingernail, we could actually scratch the finish! Volvo is trying to say it is something that was sprayed on the car after we drove off, but it seems more likely to be a paint quality issue. Help!

Hi,

I am hoping to get a C30 car starter installed (it's really cold where I live!). The dealer says they don't offer them anymore as there's an issue with the wiring since the key is plastic. However, I have heard of a car audio place that can install them (although they have not done this on a C30 yet).

Has anyone had a car starter installed on a C30? Was it successful or did you have any issues?

I am looking into buying a new C30 1.6 (I don't think they sell those in the US), and I was wondering on any input in the reliability of Volvo, the C30 is too new for consumer reports to show any thing, MSN reviews look good. Test drove it my self and I love it, most solid car I have ever driven, the safety features in it are also a nice plus.
From the few posts I have seen people do have problems, but which brand does not have some problems, if no personal experience with a C30, just Volvo overall would be nice.
