Today has been a horrible day. I'm in a real pickle now without realizing what was going on. I have a volvo C30, T5, manual, 2012.

Last night, after about two hours of highway driving, I noticed a sound coming from the hood area. Wasn't sure what it was. No warning signals were lit. No information displayed by the computer. Then a few minutes later, as I was a about 5 minutes from home, it turned into a very bad "clacking" kind of sound. Not good. But still, there were no lights, etc. I drove home, opened the hood, and heard that the noise was coming from the engine.

This morning, I *stupidly* drove the car to my volvo dealer (Uptown Volvo - Montreal - where I have leased the car from), which is about 10 minutes drive from my home, to figure out what was going on. I got a call in the afternoon from the Service advisor (kid). He asks if I had a collision. I said none that I am aware of - why? He says teh car has a cracked oil pan and it'll be $2k to repair it and I'd better call my insurance company. Worse, he tells me that I may have killed my engine, that they can't know for sure until they fix the oil pan, and that a new engine would be (get this!) $20k! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I said to him that's crazy because the oil pressure light never came on! He knows this is true because when I brought it there and started it up with him listening for the noise, he saw that the oil pressure light still wasn't on! I asked him about, he says he doesn't understand why it didn't come on. Had I thought it was an oil problem, I would have had it towed immediately. I'm so PO'd that I might have killed my engine because of a oil pressure switch that for some reason did not go on!

The sound: When in neutral, there was no clacking sound. When in reverse, also no sound. But as soon as the RPMs reached a certain level, while pressing the accelerator, the clacking would start. In 2 or 3rd gear, when not pushing giving it gas, there was no sound.

So...what the heck do I do? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Because after searching around a bit, I think the insurance company will cover the oil pan - but not any damage to the engine. The adjuster is supposed to call me on Monday.

Is my engine really toast? If so, with a leased car, what can I do about it? Can I try to get a discount or something from Volvo or take legal action against them for the oil pressure light not going on?

Does the on board computer record any oil pressure drops, i.e. can I get a printout or something else that would prove the oil pressure light never went on (just in case I end up in court)?

Good morning all,

I am looking for a little advice and guidance if possible.

We have a 2009 C30 Drive which seems to have recently developed a little problem (or a rather big one).

The car seems to run fine, then all of a sudden it will prevent the driver from accelerating (won't get over 3000rpm) and then cuts out. The most recent time this occurred the "oil pressure light" appeared on the right of the dashboard. Now every time my husband or I try to take the car out the engine cuts out very quickly, the oil pressure light comes on and the car won't go any further. So it's now a very attractive drive ornament...not much good as I'm 37 weeks pregnant and really could do with not being house-bound.

Alas, the car had it's last service around 2 months ago (a minor service, no oil change, but did have an oil charge?) and has around 60,000 miles on the clock (high, I know).

Anyone have a similar experience with a C30 or any other volvo for that matter and could give me some guidance?

Hello everyone.

My C30 has done 11,000 miles and today I started to hear a click whenever I press the clutch pedal in.

It sounds like it's coming from underneath the gear lever / arm rest. It only happens when I'm shifting up. It doesn't happen when shifting down or when the car is in neutral.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

I live in Denver and decided to make a notion of the market where can I get a new 2013 Volvo C30 T5.
How much does it cost? What is the average price for it?
The thing is that I started thinking of buying a new 2013 Volvo C30 T5 Hatchback.
Believe that black-colored one will be the best bet.

So, I bought a 2006 C30 T5 about four months ago. It’s a really lovely car but I missed the comfortable seats from my previous car (Volvo S60R). The seats that came in my C30 were cloth interior and heated but manual controls. So I came across two S60 (2004) front seats from a breakers yard. They were leather, heated and the driver’s seat was a power seat.

So first I had to change the runners on the S60 seats to the C30 ones because the S60 runners were wider. This was easy enough and I then fitted the seats into the C30. The heated seat function works perfectly on both seats, however I’m having problems getting the power functions on the driver’s seat to work.

I took the C30 to a car electrics place and they confirmed that the C30 was wired for power seats so that doesn’t seem to be the problem. There are fuses in the internal fuse box (under glove box) for Power seat modules for the drivers and passenger sides. When I plug the driver’s seat into the car the power functions work for about 30 – 60 seconds then go dead.
I was using a power seat module (PSM) from the C30 on the S60 seat and thought this might be the problem so I got an S60 PSM and tried it, but same thing happened, the power functions work for about 60secs then go dead.
There is an airbag light on in the dash but I thought this was because I had started the car while the seat was disconnected.

Ive had a good look at the connector that connects the seat to the car and the only difference I can see is that the brown connector (I think this has something to do with airbags) has two wires coming out of it in the C30 seat whereas the S60 one has two wires coming out of it. Ive attached several photos. From what I can figure out:
Green-seatbelt sensor
Brown ?Airbag sensor
Black (square one) - power input
Im not sure what the orange, grey or black (rectangular) ones do

Does anyone know how to get the power function to work on the driver’s seat? Ive tried everything I can think of… Please help!!!

It is so hard to find any wheels that look good, to fit my 2008 Volvo C30. Does anyone know of any places to find Matte Bronze wheels that will fit the 5x108 lug measurements?

does any one tested the top speed of the 2008 r-design c30 t5,the maximum i went on my speedmeter was 250 km/h but wiil like to know the true speed,@ these speed i was able to beat the 2008 mecedes c280

Anyone had this happen? I have a 2011 c30 went to start it up and no power, then the lights were dimmly puksing, but no power means NOTHING can be done! I am freaking out! Of course, shop is closed on sunday, but how will they even tow it when it can not even move inot neutral? And yes, tried to charge battery, nothing at all happened. I read volvo batteries are not good? Just had my 37,500 work up done about three weeks ago....anyone had this?

When should I do the oil change on the C30? I got the car when it had driven 2500km and now I'm on 8000km. I remember they had a volvo estimator somewhere that said that I should do it at 12,000km but I can't find it any longer.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I wondered if any one has any recommendations for a bike carrier for a C70 covertible? There seems to be loads of options however not mention advertise for a 'convertible' and the obvious rear 'boot/trunk' fitting.

The tires on my 2011 C30 are at 3/32 tread so I need to replace them. I am considering replacing them with the same as what's on the car now, the Michelin Pilot, but with less than 40k miles on them and they need to be replaced already, I am strongly considering others. Do you have any recommendations? I am in the southeast US so snow isn't much of an issue, but ice is. We get temperatures in the 100's in summer and 20's in winter. I drive quite a bit on the highway and would like a quiet tire.

As of the 22 Dec car got side swiped by a foreign lorry driver so car at 8 weeks old is going in to the repair shop on Wednesday 28 for left-hand side body repairs to door rear quarter panel and wheel-arch.

my c30 has just set off its alarm and when i opened the car it was turned off but as soon as i went to lock it it goes off again is there and idea what would case this

I have a C30 with Bluetooth phone connection. A friend's i-phone works fine, the wife's HTC Desire works fine, but my HTC Desire doesn't. It pairs OK, but shows the pairing on the phone as Headset rather than Phone. Phonebook won't download into the car, and when calls are made by entering the number they droip almost immediately, but always before connection.

The Volvo C30 is a small car produced by Volvo Cars, a subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company. The C30 is a three-door, four-seat hatchback powered by straight-4 and straight-5 engines. The car is a hatchback version of the S40/V50/C70 range, and uses the same Ford C1 (or Volvo P1) platform.

I had my 2008 c30 broken into last night. they smashed out the passenger side door window. the alarm never went off. The alarm was still set when I discovered it broken into this morning.

Would imagine, drain, flush with water and then fill 50/50 mix ..

Any valve to release air ?

I have a 2008 C30, and recently I started to notice a rattle in the engine. It happens 2 times that I have noticed. It will happen when I first start up the car and it also happens in lower gears when RPMS hit over 3000. It does not happen when I push the engine in 3rd gear or higher. It just sounds like there is something lose and vibrating as the engine works a little harder. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas what may be causing the noise?

This may sound like an odd topic, but ever since I changed car a few months ago and bought a new C30 (terrific vehicle), I've had problems with both GPS and mobile phone signals.

The GPS problem has improved recently, since I replaced my old Garmin c510 with a Nuvi. However, I still have to mount the GPS right up close to the windscreen in order to get consistent reception.

The same problem afflicts my mobile. My Samsung from T-Mobile could only get a very weak signal inside the car, but since I upgraded to an HTC Smartphone with Three, the problem is even worse.The Bluetooth display on the dash only ever gets to show one bar of signal strength and very often shows no bars at all.

This was never a problem in my previous car, Ford S-Max, where both GPS and mobiles worked just fine.

So I'm wondering if the Volvo has such a lot more steel reinforcement around the bodywork that it effectively screens radio signals.

If this is so, then maybe others have experienced this and have found ways to overcome the problem. Checking around the web, there seem to be two solutions on offer: Fairly expensive (and illegal) signal boosters which re-transmit inside the car from an outside aerial; or cheap passive gadgets which don't actually work.

Any ideas?

If you are interested to meet the Volvo C30 firsthand, you can rush to the Paris Motor Show which would be happening this December. After all, everybody would not be able to see just what kind of power and what kind of design this car has. And being able to see it upfront and in the flesh would be something worth the long wait.According to Volvo, they are targeting a production of 65,000 units of the Volvo C30 in a year. They are also expecting a huge amount of buyers of this vehicle to hail from the continent of Europe. Those who have already set sight on the Volvo C30 concept vehicle which was shown off at the Detroit Motor Show early this year would find not a lot of changes to the production version of the Volvo C30.

Greetings all,
I am looking into buying a new C30 1.6 (I don't think they sell those in the US), and I was wondering on any input in the reliability of Volvo, the C30 is too new for consumer reports to show any thing, MSN reviews look good. Test drove it my self and I love it, most solid car I have ever driven, the safety features in it are also a nice plus.
From the few posts I have seen people do have problems, but which brand does not have some problems, if no personal experience with a C30, just Volvo overall would be nice.

SOLVED: Does anyone know if the GPS antenna which is housed in the sharksfin on the rear roof is installed by default, even if the built-in GPS option is not fitted?

If it is, can anyone tell me where the cable from it terminates? I want to use my portable Garmin satnav in the car, but find that the received signal is weak for some reason, so want to use the roof-mounted antenna to solve the problem.

Installation is finished and tuned , no distortion at max volume , 8" sub under passenger seat is working well good bass response , Ipod interface is good but the only down fall is you have to control the volume with the Ipod itself.

As a European automaker, its more than just a little strange that Volvo has never offered a small 5-door hatchback, considering cars like the VW Golf, Audi A3 and 5-door BMW 1 Series sell in such huge numbers overseas. True, Volvo has had the V50 for many years now, but it's always been a bit too big for that smaller segment, and a bit too small to compete with wagon versions of the Passat, BMW 3 Series and Audi A3.

In the past Volvo had released a design sketch of a C30 5-door and now Stefan Jacoby, the company's new CEO, has confirmed it will head into production, hitting the market in 2012.

The car is expected differentiate itself from the current C30 with a new front-fascia, and according to Jacoby it should "express what Scandinavia stands for – high values for human beings, strong social security and welfare." We'll assume he means the health, happiness and prosperity type of welfare, not the hand-out from the government, food stamp, live in an urban ghetto, where's my baby daddy type of welfare.

Looking at buying a 2011 c30 in Australia. Have heard some reports that the servicing costs are quite high, and once the warranty is done, any repairs also quite costly. Lastly, I have also heard the resale value is not very good, this is important to me, because I will be leasing the vehicle for 3yrs. I know this forum is for people who have and love their c30s and I do like the car very much, however am trying to get some more information before I buy. The other car we are looking at is a mazda3 sp25. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

I've had the worse week ever. my 2000 C70 is toast and I feel like someone died. I put the posts about it in the performance forum, so I don't want to write it again here (I'll start crying again.)

Greetings to you all its a first post and as you can see its just arrived. This is my first Volvo hope its as good as my last car
Its a C30 D4 with a few extras

When starting my Volvo C30 without pressing the accelerator the car will start but does not pick up it,s revs when the accelerator
is pushed down - it splutters quite a bit until it picks up and runs normally.
If I press the accelerator when starting everything is fine.
Otherwise the car drives like a dream but I must say I have had it in the garage 5 times and they adjust this and adjust that and the problem
is still there.
Any help would be much appreciated --- I must also add that when the car is put on the computer to see if there are any faults it registers that
everything is O.K.
I do not think that it is anything serious but it is very annoying !

While the average person might think of Volvo as a safe, but boring brand, the truth is, Volvo has been involved in racing for a long time.

In recent years, K-PAX Racing has successfully entered an S60 in the GT Class of the World Challenge Touring Car championship, winning both the driver's and teams championship in 2010.

For 2011, they want to repeat their achievement and will be running two Volvo C30 hatchbacks in the Touring Car class. No driver's have been announced yet, but K-PAX team owner Jim Haughey is excited about his new race cars. He said, "The C30 is a front-wheel drive, two-door hatchback with a 5-cylinder turbocharged engine. It's relatively aerodynamic and makes for a great platform to race in the Touring Car class."

The vice-president of public affairs at Volvo, Geno Effler is similarly enthused and said, "K-PAX Racing's Volvo S60 surprised a lot of people by winning the GT championship last year, and I think winning a Touring Car title in 2011 with a C30 is a legitimate goal." They are hoping to win both class titles this year with the S60 and the C30.

Im wondering is there a way i can get into my playlists via the c30's computer using the ipod on usb mode? ive got so many songs.

Or better yet how can i organize my songs on my ipod so they play in the order i want in my car? do they have to be in a certain play list?

I dont want to stumble across a dozen death metal tunes to get to my love songs when my ladys in the other seat.

I'm new to this forum. I purchased a 2008 C30 2.4i last month. I just love it.
I noticed one night that when I removed the key from the ignition, then locked the doors, the headlights were still on, BUT, no audible warning.

There's no mention of this in the manual. I'm wondering if anyone else experienced this.
Do I have a fault. How does your C30 respond to this situation?

What kind of alarm do you have? What brand-name alarm do you have? What are the capabilities of it? Does it only chirp or do extra other things (like a perimetric protection of your vehicle, pre-warning chirps for potential thefts, turbo timer, start of engine etc.).

I'm thinking of getting a C30 as my next car. I originally was looking at the VW GTI, but the Volvo looks a little more refined to me and not so much like an econo-box shape as the GTI. I also like the looks of the interior as well. One thing I was wondering about was the width of the hatch. How wide is it? It looks fairly narrow, and I was wondering that would tend to be a problem if I wanted to haul larger boxes from the store. Anyone know the width offhand? I currently drive a Miata right now and can haul next to nothing (unless I can drive with the top down), so anything will be an improvement, but the GTI seems to have a wider hatch and that might be desirable as well. Also, how reliable are these cars? I'm probably looking at new or low mileage 2009 models.
