Hello,

I am glad I found this forum as our 1995 vovlo 440 (petrol) has been showing various signs of fatigue.
All of a sudden (last friday), several things stopped functioning:

- rear electric windows (but front windows work fine)
- fan + air conditioning
- headlights (but sidelights, indicator and all rear lights work fine)
- both the ABS and the SRS...

Help please anyone,

I can hear the motor operate for a couple of seconds on switching for open and then for a couple of seconds on switching for closed, but sunroof will not move. I understand from other sites there are a couple of plastic pins connecting the lifting arms to the operating cable which break, and have purchased new pins from dealer, but am unable to lift sunroof to get at...

The near side indicator lights have begun to intermittently stay on when armimg or disarming the immobiliser. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I wondering if anyone knows how to remove factory stereo in 480 (turbo, 1990)?
I removed small side plastic thingies which I thought would reveal holding screws or something but it didn't. No holding screws to be seen and I am reluctant to use force to try to wedge stereo out it should be easier way I suppose.
Any advice or pointers would be greately appreciated.

dump valve what can be used and where should it be fitted

Have changed batteries, switching ignition on/off 5 times etc., and removing batteries out of remote and pressing buttons 5 times etc., but to no avail. My wife has a 1992, 440 and I have changed the carburettor, Put fuel line and jet cleaner in the petrol, new spark plugs, new HT leads, new distributor cap and rotor arm, new fuel line filter, new air filter, had carburettor tuned at garage and I still cannot get it to tick over very well.

Using the site for the first time and i wondered if any one can help. I have a 91 460 Gli and a bad earth problem. every time i put on the heated rear window, High Beam or fog lights it seems to light all the warning lights on the dashboard for those paticular items, i can put one item on or more and it will vary which warning lights come on!

The factory alarm on my 440 hasn't been working since I got the car, so i decided to give it a go & get it working. I have the dash light doing all the right things with the key-fob and the indicators flash at all the right times. Trouble is, the siren doesn't make a sound. All 3 wires for the alarm were cut (2 inside the siren which I reconnected - black/red), but the blue one...

I have a 1996 440 1.8LE and the driver's side rear light housing is taking in water. I suspect that the rubber seal needs replacing, but I can't get the housing off! I have removed all 4 nuts inside the boot, but it still won't come off. Am I missing something? I'm starting to think some idiot has glued the damn thing on....

I'm putting a car in for part exchange, my 440, and I want to take the alloys off it before I do. There's no cheap volvo wheels to be found anywhere, and there's not a single volvo in sight at my local scrappie's.

After approx. 100 miles driving at a speed of 90 miles an hour, my Volvo 440 gets too warm and cannot go faster than 50 miles an hour. The car bumps and schocks, looks like false air in the engine. After cooling down (30 minutes), the car is been able to run again. It seems that driving at 65 miles an hour, is no problem for a longer period.

Recently the timming belt went ( damaged 1or 2 valves ) on my 460 ES 2.0 i and took it to garage to rebuild the engine and ever since the idle speed is reving around 1800rpm.

Hi there volvo owners, my cousin has a 460 Si and I have bought him a superchip off of eBay with the ECU.

He has the B18U Single Point Injection engine.

Where is the ECU likely to be located in this car, the haymes manual offers no help at all.

Can someone please tell me if they have had problems installing a cd player and not getting the aerial to extend. I have bought the Sony CDX R3300, in the instructions for installation it says that if you have an automated aerial that doen not have its own relay then the stereo could damage the aerial.

Someone please help with a problem that developed today with my 1996 VOLVO 440i....
(i'm not so hot with car mechanics and would appreciate any help identifying the problem)
...... the engine revs between 1,000 and 2,000 at standstill then sticks at 2,000 revs. This happened a week ago but seemed to fix itself but now back again today.

Can anyone tell me the CORRECT thread details for a wheel bolt on a 460 1990. Ie;, thread , pitch . I had a wheel bolt break on front of car, removed hub assy complete to vertically drill the old part of bolt out. There is still a whisker of the old thread in there, so I want to buy a tap to clean out threads properly.

Have a M reg 440 GLT and the remote locking is not working. Believe that these things reset the codes regularly and they can get out of synch???

Anyone know of any easy way of getting this sorted without resorting to visiting my local Volvo dealer with chequebook at the ready....
