I recently brought a 1993 440 2.0i for a bargain price,
it needs a bit of work which I started over the weekend.
The first job (of many) was to renew the bulbs on the instrument display panel.
I made the mistake of turning on the ignition without the airbag attached. Now the SRS light is constantly on on the dashboard (and i doubt the airbag is working).

Has anyone ever done a clutch in one of these? My wife's is just about done and I'm trying to beat it to the punch. I've seen a thread on another site that said the engine, tranny, subframe and everything had to be pulled; I have a hard time believing Volvo would design anything that poorly. Thanks for any help

Hi I will be doing lots of work on my 440 over the next year and one of the jobs is to see if I can fit remote central locking and decent alarm. One thing I do know is that there is no central locking motor on the driver’s door.

Anyone know how to release the bonnet if the release cable has snapped?

I can just get my fingers to the release handle under the bonnet but can't seem to pull it hard enough to open the bonnet. I'm guessing it's only the secondary catch that it releases.

Any suggestions please?

Had a 1995 1.6i 440 for 50k miles and have had no significant problems, idle has never been great and when the clutch is depressed when changing down it often momentarily revs up. have always suspected the idle valve and have cleaned it on a number of occasions, could never decide wether this made any difference. idle is now so poor it stalls. anyone know if this is a common fault?

I have been driving for a while in my car and noticed that when i apply the handbrake the warning light does not come on. Obviously this is important because it also is a brake warning light.

I have a 440 Si P plate and when I bought it it already had remote door unlocking via the remote fob which is not Volvo fob. I have been given a Volvo fob which came from an L Reg 440 and I am wondering if the Volvo fob has to be programmed by Volvo to get it to work on my doors. I don't know if this is right but my Volvo 440 1.6i (N reg) always makes a strange noise on startup.

-You turn the key to the start position, the engine turns and gets running...the revs go to about 2000 rpm then slow down. During this time the engine makes a strange noise, if you put the clutch out and in again (i always start with the clutch in) the noise changes pitch.

Hi There,

Recently I have been driving and my clutch always Squeaks when I engage and disengage. It seems to be squeaking Right at the end of letting go.

I have WD-40'd as much of the connections as I can get to, it will sort out for a while but then seems to not make a difference and the squeaking continues.
