Ok, so it all started when i was driving down the road in a valley in the rain when my 1991 940 Turbo just suddenly died. Towed it in and went to work. I first checked the air filter because it seemed starved for air... after cleaning out the mouse nest I pulled the cable off the mass air sensor and another sensor (called? - map?) that is in line between the MAS and the exhaust driven turbo spool...

The only way i can describe the noise is like when you blow up a balloon,pull the neck apart , let some air out and it kinda squeaks. Well thats the noise i get from behind the dashboard somewhere when ever i turn the engine off.The noise aint loud,lasts about 2 seconds and fades to nothing .
Probably wont do nothing about it if i can help it ,as it would involve getting behind the dash,but...

Trying to fix a separate brake light issue, when I turn the key on, without starting car, there is a buzzing noise under the hood. It is coming from this.

Hi, most of the time when I open/close my power windows '97 960) I get an annoying squealing sound... I tried WD40 around the rubber seal (inside and outside) but I guess the sound is coming from the internal levers in the door panels that expand and contract to raise and lower the window... Hello I have a 1997 960 with 200k miles. a/c system is charged and blows 40 deg f air. My problem is when the car is started the ac clutch wont engage. I have to click the ignition foward and back four to five times (with out starting), then the ac clutch will ingage. What should I look at to fix this problem? I am a diesle mechanic so any help with this problem would be appreciated.

I am trying to figure out how to remove the Driver's Interior Door Panel
so I can get to the Relay in there which I suspect is broken.
Just a note, the relay for the automatic up/down window control is within
the door.

1) I have removed the Red Light Lens cover on the lower portion of the door.
2) I have twisted all 3 of the white screwlocks...

my 92 940 has a strange noise thats goes on and off, it sounds like its in the engine, but it goes on with a click sound and imediatly turns off the same way, some times its a minute sometimes its near 5 minutes.

its a squeling noise near or around the timing belt/ front of motor, i checked the timing belt for the fun of it, but i realize it does it when something turns on intermitidly...

Wondered if anyone has encountered this...
My A/C quit and after numerous attempts,new compressor,evap.leaks afterwards,now my A/C blows cool out of outer vents and warm on centre!!
Mechanic is a decent guy and is really stumped!
Any thoughts?Even up here in Canada it gets quite warm!!

My '97 960 has had a complete braking light failure. Have T/S as much as I possibly can w/o schematics and have yet to find anything. All wires in the trunk ohm out perfectly. turns over. has spark. can smell raw fuel but wont start. checked diagnostic codes for socket #2 and everything is functioning properly.

also note that warning lights on dash do not come on when key is turned. since all of this is related to ignition switch i replaced that. warning lights worked after replacing but then stopped after turning car over about a half dozen times.

I'm probably asking something which as been asked before, but I'd like some feedback.

A year ago, my mother who owned the 960 before started the car, moved it in a 20 second time span. Shut off, went back to start and no go. I went up to look as she said it was turning over fast, so dreading a cam belt in two, i stripped the cover back and ... oh.. cam belt on.

I need a car for my son who is home from college for the summer and I am looking at a 96 Volvo 960 at the place that I get my VW''s serviced. It has 105,000 miles and had quite a bit of work done to it recently. It is a one owner car (68 year old woman). The mechanics there say that all of their loaner Volvos have 250,000 miles so this car is just hitting its stride....

Hi, we recently bought a 940 with almost 270.000miles

The car came from a well situated home and has extensive service records.
However I think the alternator just died.

Trying to adjust timing by rotating the distributor located at the back of the engine but timing is not moving. White mark on the pointer is at 15 degrees but actual on balancer is reading 10 degrees with timing light.
Anyone might know why it won't change or am I supposed to disconnect a sensor prior to setting base timing.

Hi Thanks for all previous suggestions regarding my 940. However I am still baffelled as she still refuses to start.

I have replaced the spark plugs, fitted new plug leads and made sure there was fuel in her.

I have power at the coil and when the HT lead is put to earth I have a spark. I checked that fuel was getting to the injector rail and there is plenty and good pressure....

I just bought a 1993 940 and it ran fine for about 300 miles. All the fluids were fine and it started fine. Yesterday the engine just quit when I was going down the highway. When the check engione light comes on, the mechanic tells me it is for thr egr system? They replaced a sensor, reset the codes, but it came on the next day.
They sent it out to an electrician who found some hot grounds?. The codes were reset, but as usual, the check engine light is on again. They have reset it a few times.
Any ideas?

In the engine bay screwed onto the side by the headlight is a metal plate about 4or 5 inches long and about 2 inches wide with a wire running into it. As soon as you start the car the plate gets really hot as in too hot to touch.
