Hi - Need to change the battery on a V40. Simple question for anyone who knows the answer. How do you remove the front plastic 'clip' that holds the battery in place. It looks like you could 'prise' the tab away from the battery. Have tried but it does not want to budge. Does it just need more force or is there a 'special' way to remove it?

The usual symptoms that come from a v40 misfire. so i followed the advice you guys have given to others in the past. Though i must admit due to being skint i havent taken it to main dealer to get fault codes yet.

I have just bought a V40 2.0T automatic estate - 1999. I was surprised to find that the gear selector did not illuminate in the dark so found gear selection tricky in the dark. Should it illuminate? If so, the bulb has blown - how do I get to it to replace it?

Hello all i'm new and wondering if anyone could give me some advise. My car wont idle and when it does its nearly at zero and barely stays going. It does'nt always do it, it goes through a stage where it runs ok, then it cuts out the minute i apply my brakes, just now it cut out as i was turning into a car park and i was in second gear. I have recently bought a 1999 V40 auto 2.0T estate. Tonight I drove it in the dark for the first time. I was surprised to find that there was no illumination on the auto gear selector (gearstick). Is this correct or is there a bulb that needs replacing?

The horn doesnt work at all, I have checked all the fuses. Is this an easy job to sort? I have only until November until the MOT.

Hi, tried to replace the rear brake pads. Couldnt get the left rear caliper piston to retract using a g-clamp. Even opened the bleeding nipple with no luck. Is there any special way of doing this or is the piston seiced?

I have a 2002 Volvo V40 1.9D and the other day the ECC fan developed a fault.

The fan is on all the time regardless of the setting. If the air con is on when I switch to 0 the air con goes off but the fan is still on.

I have a problem with the rear wiper on my V40. It is not touching the window during the middle of its wipe. The arc to the left and right of the wipe is fine but in the middle it lifts off from the glass due to the curve of the window.

I have a slight problem with my 2000 Volvo V40 1.8 xs. Everytime I turn off the ignition the clock and tripometer disappear and start at 0 the next time I turn the engine on. Any ideas why this is happening?

The Driver side door does not lock. While all other doors operate normally, they all lock with the lock knob popping up and down when locking and unlocking. But the driver side lock knob does not lift when unlocking and when locked the door is still open while the other doors are locked. Hi folks, just bought a V40 W reg 2000. First registered July 2000. V5 says it's a 1.8S but the only markings on the car is the 1.8 badge on the back.

How do I tell if it's an older version 2000 or newer 2000 model? Want to upgrade stereo to CD and some say compatible with 2000 onwards or 2000 and before. Plus I want to check the full spec and service requirements.

i am pleased with my purchase tho as i have a genuine 36000 miles 1998 dark blue v40 estate with genuine un-scuffed alloys in mint condition for only £1850!!!!

I have just installed a Parrot CK3100 bluetooth handsfree kit. Everything works fine apart from the stereo not muting when I place a call or a call is received. There are 3 mute cables and I have tried each of these without success.

I have a daily driven 1997 V40 T4 which occasionally stalls at idle (once a fortnight). About 95% of the time when the car stalls, i loose most of the vehicle electrics (radio, tacho, speedo, etc). If i wait about 2 to 5 seconds, the car will start and drive normally.

Ive got a 2003 V40 1.9d sport. Over the last few days ive noticed that when you blip the throttle you get a puff of black smoke out of the exhaust. It is so feint that it is hardly noticable but it didn't do it before. Is this normal or is it the sign of problems looming?
