Hi All,

I am looking at getting a second hand 1997 V40. Its done 140,000KM and is in really good shape - full service history etc.

We have a 5 year old and a 14month old, so whilst being on the small side, the V40 should be good.

can any one let me know what I should be looking for in the way of problems?

It seems that some V40 have a heap of things go wrong with the main problems being radiators & air con.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Anyone know whether the '97 V40 requires a special tool to extinguish the Service reminder light?

I found some instructions for resetting the service reminder light using the odometer reset button but I think that's only applicable from '99 onwards.

On the assumption that a special tool is required then can anyone suggest a suitable product/supplier in the UK (preferably not too expensive) - can I also assume that the service port is buried up one side or the other of the centre console?

Hi everybody. I try to fit a parrot ck3000 kit in my 2001 v40 and I can´t find a connector compatible with the green/gray and ISO connectors of parrot kit. I also conect it directly but I need the pinouts of green/gray connectors of the HU-605 radio/CD. If somebody have an idea thanks in advance.

Hi -- Very please with the 2000 V40 I've had for about a year with two exceptions. First there seems to be a great deal of road noise or tire noise. Wondered if any of you have the same experience and if not what tires are you using? Also I cannot keep the windshield fog free in cold weather unless I have a window cracked open or the defroster on. I have to think there is some combination of settings which would allow for a fog free window with out the defroster on. Can anyone help me?

Charged the battery on my v40 the other day for the winter,problem is i can't find the card with my code on.I looked with all the car stuff,not their.So i was wondering if their was a factory reset number or if anyone knows how i can obtain a working code.

I am about to buy my first car and have decided on a Volvo...I have a brand new baby boy and want an affordable and safe car but am at a crossroads as to whether I should go for a used 2001 v40 or bite the bullet and get a new v50...I would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

I have a 2001 V40 2.0T and the brakes are real bad for the first 30 seconds/ 200 meters. I have to stand on the brakes to get the car to stop. The dealer has changed the vacuum hose and valve with no improvement. Any suggestions.

Hi Folk's Has anybody experienced with the central locking on 2001 V40?.
The car lock's as per normal with key or fob (or you think its locked) but you can open the drivers door only.If you leave it a few minutes minutes the alarm goes of is this a common fault if so then the locking is pretty useless because i just tried the door by accident and it opened (just the drivers all others stayed locked)!!.
How do you take the door panel off without breaking it?

Hi, i recently bought seconhand Volvo V40 but it did not have the Owner's Manual. Can anyone tell me where i could find one, as I'm a bit new to it and would like to know what different lights mean.

Hi forum,

does anybody know what could be the cause of my indicators not flashing. When I indicate left or right, the light comes on and stays on, but doesn flash.

Also, by coincidence (?) my battery has now run flat. Don't know whether this is related or just a coicidence.

[B] Hi there, I have a problem with the V40 ventilation/air conditioning where exhaust smoke from other vehicles enters the car I'm driving now, it's getting worst each day, I think if I don't do something aboutt it I may be dead while driving. Kindly help me ! Thanks. Other than that what is the mileage that requires the change of the timing belt and also what happens if I do not calibrate the computer system for each service ? Will it be damaging to the car ?

just go in today on your forum and noted alot of poeple browse over it.

I'd like to know if anyone had a similar problem on the radiator. yesterday my radiator pipe that leads to the coolant, cracked and broke off from the main body and a brand new radiator would cost Php 22,000.00 or US$ 400.00. i noticed that it is made of plastic and so i "expoyed" the pipe to main and is currently working. but to buy a new radiator is very expensive so i was wondering if anyone would have an alternative way of fixing it?

Hi folks, need some advice please. The air con on my 2000 V40 (1.8, only 40,000 miles) only blows hot or cold air, nothing inbetween.

Any ideas of the cause, is it expensive to fix

Greetings to everybody, I am new in this forum.
I just bought a second hand V40, and I am very pleased with this car.
But I think the pollenfilter has never be changed because there is not much air coming into the cabin of the car.
Can somebody tell me where I can find this pollenfilter and how I have to replace it.

Hello fellow Volvo drivers.

I can't say I am exactly a Volvo driver by choice, more chance than anything but my second hand V40 is growing on at a mildly disturbing rate every time I drive it. I'll spare you the superlatives and get to business - I bought my car without wheel trims so I bobbed down to the local dealer and enquired about a new set. Certainly sir, that'll be £145 the parts man cheerily responded. Needless to say I spat the dummy at the prospect of being lightened by well over a ton for 4 lumps of plastic with a Volvo logo. At that price I would sexual favours included within the price of the wheel trims.
Now I know why Volvo is the only car maker within PAG that is making any money. And I thought Swedish people were such carefree and and fun loving folk.

To cut a long story short, does anybody know a more economical way of tidying up my rims?

Need help on my V40 year 2000, the engine, winter, the forward arrow lights ( those just below the speedometre ) always on and off.

I took the car to SWEDISH MARQUE, they diagnosed that some parts need to be replaced. OK.

The parts -

1. oxygen/air intake module

2. the gear ratio module

There were no mechanical problems at all. Only on the electronic components which controls those two.

Now what I need is that, please help me on how to by pass, meaning I need not pay 4k for those 2 components. If that solution is nowhere near, how am I to get cheaper parts for the same two components ?

Hmmm everything abt this wagon is fantastic, like the engine,,,,,,,,, delivers plenty of power to have some eye popping rides

and the transmission’s smooth with easy handling n great cruise control jus get it fully loaded with all the accessories n u’d enjoy this wagon, i wish if i could find some body kits and mods for this wagon. but there is not enogh about it the net. i dont know why

I just bought a 2000 V40 and I've notice that the A/C doesn't blow as hard as it does in other cars? Has anyone compared the blow speed to other cars? My 5th speed feels like a Hondas 3spd?? Is something wrong with it?

I bought this wagon for my li’l teenage daugher two years back n ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… wot an absolutely marvelouzz wagon it iSSs!!!!........my daughter says she wants something sporty now like a 2 door convertable spyder or honda cars........ m not willing to sell it away… it’s the smoothessst car ever, plus it so comfy…..the interiors are grrreaT! N oh an efficient braking systeeeeeMM…. I just dunt feel like selling it away..!

I have got Volvo V40 and once i heard that itz seats r quite comfy but i shud say itz seats suck. I had back problem and i was advised to sit on a comfortable seats but Volvo V40 really disappointed me. But on the other hand its speedy as well as stylishso apart from its seats this car really workz good.

I recenlty purchased a 2000v40.I am looking for interior accessories for my car. the carpits are totally worn out i would like to change........ next comes the paddle covers they are missing. the gears tick cap is not there and it is hurting some time my palm. later on i will come to a sound system as it is also out of order. so please let me know any good site for these things a few i found on the net was displaying accessories for the latest models.

I guess I luv the car for the stereo only… anywayssssss…nice job…. What I love is that goin n drivin up the hills is not a problem for me when m havin this vehicle…the engine is powerful enough and makes noooo noise at all…unlike the other cars that have to fight their way uphills and the engine makes hell like irritating noises for delivering sufficient power…yeahh..

The steering of my Volvo is too stiff. It requires a lot of strength to drive and turn car on block and narrow roads. I think there is some thing wrong with it, guess what is there. i am a bit confuse about it

V40’s not that bad to have. Has got nice roomy space in the trunk. I like its stereo, this has an option of an auto button that scans through all the 20 local stations that are offered. Nice Cd player too, got the knob system not the freaky buttons that are so hard to press. Sounds great!

whOooosSshhhhh..! have got this Volvo v40 2002, I bought it finally after comparing it Acura n Volkswagon Passat. Yeah comfortable and the lovely leather seats are just my hot favorite item. I like its gas mileage too 24 MPG almost for cruising around in the town 33 on the highway… nice rate uh?

I got a 2002v40…. I’ve almost spent $1200 on its repairs, the side mirrors are too small, plus they used the worst material they could use for their seats, cheapesssssst one…cuz the seats have flattened after 3rd year of use.
