I have contacted Volvo Australia for the issue I'm having with fuel pump leaking petrol on my S60.

My car has exact same problem, part number and serial number that matches to fuel pump has been recalled in North America.

I obtained information from S60 2002 owner in California, North America.

Volvo Australia notified me today that volvo manufacture cars for different markets so they will not recall or repair my fuel pump even my car has exactly the same fuel pump as what North America recalled and same problem of petrol leaking.

Volvo Australia could not careless.

I will 'never ever' buy volvo again and for those I strongly suggest to re-think again. You could be the one too.

Volvo claims most Safety car in the world could result in fire but they don't care. How good is that...

I have just bought a lovely well looked after 1993 940 GL and I would like to get a bit more power from it. i know simple things like a K & N filter, sports exhaust etc can help but are there other reasonably inexpensive mods I can do. I did not buy the 940 for its performance it was a good buy and I love Volvo's.

I have a 1997 S70 2.5 Sedan that has a alarm system immobiliser fault. The problem is the remote locks the doors but after the first unlock the back doors unlock but then on the second unlock the doors don't unlock. Major issue is the alarm system does not arm & the immobiliser does at times seem to stop the car from starting. Any ideas anyone? I am looking for the make of the alarm immobiliser system installed in the Australian car & also looking for wiring diagrams & anything at all that will help me fault find the problem. Also if anyone can tell me what test equipment do I need to fault find this system I am from the electrical trades so I have some knowledge of how to do this but details as small or large as they are welcome.

What's the best tyres - brand and specs for a Volvo 240 Sedan?

I sometimes do a fair bit of road trips and want a good performance tyre. I heard some people recommend the 195/65/14 .

Hi - the rubber seal for my VOLVO 240 front windscreen has hardened and a sizable 5mm gap has appeared between the body and the window frame.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement seal and is it easy to install?

My wife and I have just purchased a uk imported 2001 Volvo v70t, it's a 2.0Lt B52204T5.

It's done 131000ks and is in pretty awesome condition for its age.

I am wondering if anyone has any information for me on immediate mods or checks to complete to ensure the cars longevity. ( we just sold a patrol which needed catch cans and all sorts of other things to ensure it lasted).

We are based in Toowoomba and have access to Volvo themselves and a Volvo specialist mechanic.

I am thinking of a k & n air filter and possibly an egr block, but is this worthwhile or am I wasting my time?

I have a 2001 V40 T4, and I'm looking for a new fuel pressure regulator. Repco and Bursons don't stock them, and Vovlo want over $500 for one (not even installed). I can get one on ebay for about $215 but it has to be sent over from the USA, I guess it would still be the same, but can't seem to confirm that. I'd rather buy one locally, so anyone got any ideas where I should try? Is there anyone on these forums who can sell me a new FPR?

Hey guys, just switched over from the other volvo forum and was wondering if anyone could give me advice on something I may be missing.

The backstory (bear with me):

Bought a '69 144 for 500$ off these girls, rushed into it and quickly realized it needed a bit of work and transformed from not really even knowing what a sedan was to rebuilding blower motors and carbies, replacing tie rod ends and repairing all the lights etc. (I'm freshly 18 by the way and a huge vintage volvo fan)

Fixed the car up and got it registered, rebuilt and tuned the SU HIF-6 carb I had on it, it was running awesome (though I had always had a little bit of trouble with it bogging down and idling low in drive).

I then proceeded to drive it 1300km to byron bay at the top of NSW and back, the drive was really awesome and fun. I did however realize halfway through along the highway that I had some sort of oil leak issue, as I had ran it dry and could hear the rattle of the tappets (sorry).

During the journey there and back, I did notice I had to continually adjust the SU idle mixture a little leaner each time, and by the time I got it home the jet was really high in the throat (visible). 2 days after getting back, the car was spewing black smoke (unburnt fuel) from the exhaust, idling like *** (couldn't even drive it down the street) and that was with the carb tuned all the way lean, and you definitely couldn't run it richer than that.

Showed my dad and he said something was definitely up, after some digging we realized we had a cracked intake manifold and some previous owner had just used some araldite to weld it back together (haha *** how did I even get back).

From there after welding, replacing and getting nowhere, long story short a volvo enthusiast in town did me a huge favour and gave me a new intake gasket, intake manifold and a dellorto carburetor to match, it was one he had on a 144 once himself, but it had been sitting under a shelf for years.

I put it all on, and we had it running awesome without adjusting the tune or anything - perfect tickover, so my dad and I built a whole new custom throttle linkage and it works awesome except after finishing that we tuned it and the exact same problems came up!! I was devastated I was sure it was either the SU or the intake manifold. Though bear in mind for a little while the dellorto was giving great power and clear exhaust (and we hadn't tuned it from the way it was tuned for the last 140)

SO that brings us to now.


Symptoms:
Running rich no matter what we do, black smoke exhaust, sooty plugs, rough idle that bogs down in drive really fast and barely driveable. Have to hold it above 2500~rpms just so it doesn't choke. We tuned the carby to the exact manual specifications, did heaps of research into the carb etc.

When the SU carb was on it, the air piston wasn't getting an even ratio of lift to the throttle which made me think there was a vacuum leak screwing up the carby low pressure environment it needs

Additional info:
B20A engine
Single carburetted 144 1969
Compression on all cylinders (cylinder 2 is a little bit lower but still above 125 psi)
Timing is right on 12 advanced and there is clearance on the contact points, also getting spark to each plug
Valve clearance is right, no burnt exhaust valves
I cleaned out the crankcase and tappet cover breathers

the brake vacuum assist valve works one way only as it should HOWEVER when the engine is running an audible 'clicking' noise is coming from the brake vac. assist/master cylinder? though i've had it running with same noise

HELP needed, please all advice is appreciated

my ideas: possible vac leak that isn't obvious, or running the carby for a bit dislodged some gunk and blocked a jet or something like that.

1989 Volvo 240 GL - $1250 OBO

Registration expired since November 18th this year. It has an oil leak, which is very common in old cars and it might pass the inspection but it would be better if someone repair it or use it for parts. It has been very well maintained by its only one owner, an old lady who sold it to me on Ausgust this year. I am a single mother of two children with not much money on my bank account who cannot risk to pay the inspection without being completely sure if the car will pass it or not and doesn't have enough money to repair it (which I would love). The car has been regularly serviced and has around 380.000 km. It also has cd radio, central door lock and Siemens phone system instaled.

I am contemplating of installing a unit but just find that Volvo pricing is ridiculously high.
Going external is very much cheaper but not too confident in case they mess up the system.

1993 Auto Volvo 850 GLT - $1500 ono

This vehicle is currently unregistered due to it expiring in May 2011 and price is for an as is sale. Vehicle still runs very well and has been looked after and maintained by its female owner, non smoker. This Volvo has been regularly serviced and has around 225k on the clock yet drives like it has alot less. Owner has upgraded vehicles and is looking for a quick sale. All panels are very straight and vehicle has alot of extras for its age such as climate control (a/c), electric windows and mirrors and sunroof. Got the car for a day and the next day I got my headlight fitted with HID. I got the contact from my friend as they have their HID fitted at Max Vision and the job is clean and cheap. I end up choosing the expensive kit ($95) which is CANBUS as warning light was on when he was putting the normal slimline HID kit in it.
I have chosen 6000k which is pure white and I love it. If you guys want HID done, you can contact Gaspar from Max Vision Australia and he should be able do it for you cheaper and better than any other place.

Well as the title says I am currently looking for a 850 or v70 wagon as we have our 4th child on the way and my EF falcon sedan wont fit us all in anyway I first started looking at people movers but really kia are money pits chrysler is too unsafe and toyota just have too many kays( dont really see my self driving a van anyway).

Well after looking around I stumbled across the volvo's and liked how the 3rd row faces backwards which will give more room for prams and such plus have been told vovlo's have tie down points in the rear?

Plus the luxury insides compared to other cars in my price range which is up to $8,000, anywho I like the v70 interier more as it looks more modern but in saying that I like the 850 interier too is there any advantage to one over the other?

Also what should I look for when buying eaither? (long time ford nut)

I've currently got a 1994 940 GLE that i'm regretfully wrecking. I've got a whole heap of parts up for grabs if anyone wants them. i'm in Brisbane and the car is on the Sunshine Coast so either location works.

Pretty much all panels in good condition, with the exception of the bonnet with a small dent (white in color). Charcoal interior, some damaged fittings but mostly ok. Simply name the part you're after and a price and i'll see what condition it's in and how long it'll take me to get it off (generally a few days). Things i've got out at the moment are the head unit plus an aftermarket 6 stacker (plugs straight into head unit and operates from it). I've got genuine aftermarket rubber floor mats, seats (having a bit of trouble accessing the bolt for the drivers but i'm sure i'll sort it out soon), genuine dash mat (not faded at all), a few other random things.

Also, i was after 2 cheap rims to fit the car, i've got aftermarket mags that i want to get off to sell but haven't got anything else to put the car on in the mean time. Doesn't matter about condition or even if they have tires, somes something that bolts on and holds it up.

I'm curious to know whether or not the Volvo that was our family car when I was a child still exists. It was a navy blue 1970 Volvo 145 which my parents purchased new in Adelaide in April 1970 (when I was 4 years old). This car was one of the first of the updated versions with the rear window wiper to come to Australia. The original registration number was RTH247 (SA). That was changed to YNA685 (ACT) when we moved to Canberra in 1981. My parents sold it in April or May of 1982 with 112000 miles on the clock.

In the early 1990's I recall a friend who worked in the ACT motor registry telling me that their system showed that the car had been reregistered in Queensland.

I would be interested to know if anyone has any info on this car.

I been in contact with "East coast european, Erina", too expensive for my taste; $2000-3000 for enine swap.
I also spoke to "ASV euro auto parts, Willavood", but they only put in reconditioned engines; $4000-5000.
Neither had a suitable engine; B5234T

I managed to find a engine in VIC for $1500, a bit over priced concidering ASV charges $800-1100.
Im a bit concern over recondition mine, since it can be totally gone...

I just purchased a used XC90 T6 MY04 from a Melbourne dealer. The car is to be delivered within the next few days. Since purchase I've learnt about the transmission issues this model is known for. The car has currently 69,000 km on the clock and I am worried that the transmission will die. I compalained to the dealer and wanted to break the dealer as I was within the cooling off period and he gave me an extended warranty 4 yrs/ 120,000 km for free. Anyone else in Australia with the same model, good experiences or bad I'd love to hear from you as I am worried sick at the moment.

Hello Fellow Racers,

After a fantastic day of tyre spinning fun in the sun at Eastern Creek Raceway the results are in for the EBC Brakes EC Motorkhana.

Firstly, the Avant / Estate Class which was won by Emma in her Saab 95...never knew a Saab could move that fast! With the absence of Ice Man and Bug Racer (who is leaking so much water from the S4 that it could have wet the skid pan without using the pumps) it was a clear win for Emma.

Emma is also the second woman this year to win their class – not only that, she was quicker than almost half the field!

The Hot Hatch class was up next with long standing battle between VW an Ford back on the table. Sean and Nemesis were back on track with two very mean XR5’s with Daniel and Trent flying the Flag for VW in MKV and MKIV R32’s.

It was Daniel in the MKV R32 who eventually claimed first (even after the hefty time penalties for having 4-Motion – 2nd overall too) With Sean hot on his heals just 2.4 points behind. Trent in the MKIV R32 put the pedal to the metal to claim 3rd with Nemesis finishing in 4th.

The Sports Coupe class though was where all the action was with David’s Audi TTS, Wazza’s Audi A5 3.2 FSI and Emanuel’s E92 M3 drawing in competitors and spectators alike...to say they look fast standing still is an understatement.

Even with the time penalties applied to the Audi’s for their ‘unfair quattro advantage’ it was 1, 2 for Audi with Warwick proving too neat and clean in the A5 claiming first with David only 1.8 points behind in the TTS – something that big and heavy defies logic in being able to change direction that quickly...well done Wazza.

In third place only a couple of points behind was Murry in the mighty M Roadster...he just had too much power to put to the ground in that light little coupe to keep up with the Audi contingent – next time Murry.

The Power to weight ratio point calculation came in to play to propel Ellis and Paul to 4th and 5th respectively - it was like watching two majestic ocean liners trying to negotiate and 18ft skiff race course...and yes reverse gear was used more than once.

Honourable mention goes to Mark in the current series Subaru WRX...if you weren’t able to see the driver you would have swore the Ken Block was in the car putting on a spectacular show of sideways 4 wheel drifting action that was impossible to match...is there a drive like a WRC superstar button in that car – check out the video footage of that!

Fastest overall time over the four events was David in the Audi TTS - the EBC Brakes EC Motokhana Circuit Breaker - with a total time of 150.63 followed closely by Daniel in the MKV R32 on 151.73 and Murry in the M Roadster on 152.96...close indeed guys!

The title every wants though is the ‘STIG’ this time being awarded to Ellis in the BMW 635 C Si...just 0.537 points ahead of Paul also in a BMW 635 C Si.

No Volov's on the circuit except for the ones in the car park

Hello European Motorsport Fans and welcome to the fifth event report of the European Performance Car Challenge thanks to Go Pro Hero Digital Camera’s.

With the chill of winter heavy in the air the, morning sun slowly parted the clouds over Oran Park as competitors driving almost every European Marque began to fill the pits and the smell of racing fuel and burbling European Engines filled the air.

From a Lamborghini Countach, to the immaculate AutoPrep Lexus RS200, to a Saab 99 Turbo, to a Jaguar XJ6, this day had something for everybody - it was the biggest collection of European Cars to date!

The Hot Hatch class was were all the action was again with a strong charge by the French Manufactures - Peugeot and Renault...much to the disappointment of a number of competitors – The French had Ze Germans surrounded!

After the shockingly quick times Martin set in his RenaultSport Megane 225 Cup set at Wakefield, some competitors were worried if it was even worth entering after hearing about the French charge...however he wasn’t as quick as expected, Joey on the other hand also in a 225 Cup though was, with a 1:25:7090 good enough to claim the fastest time recorded by the hot hatches.

Hot on his heals was Ian of Team Rennenhaus with a trick new suspension set up to tame the VW R32 Beast with a best time of 1:26:1350 – close Ian, close...however the French will be flying the winners flag until next month at Wakefield.

Martin was a second and bit behind on 1:27:5810 with Nathan in his RenaltSport Clio not too far behind either on 1:29:3070 – like I said, French cars everywhere!

Paul Flood – overall ‘Stig’ last year in the VAG Motorsport series was also in the 1 min 29 second bracket with a 1:29:7790 driving the doors off his mighty VW Polo Gti to keep ahead of, yes, yet another RenaultSport Clio driven by Chris to a best time of 1:30:2800.

The Penrite SINsational Eastern Creek Sprint ‘Stig’ Nick (say that 5 times really fast), sporting a sticky set of hoops fitted to the VW Golf Gti was also surrounded by the French with a best time of 1:30:4410 keeping him ahead of Rodney’s brand new Renault Sport Clio 2 which set a best time of 1:32:0810.

Rounding off the category are Simon and Dimitrios, Simon in his VW Polo Gti with a time of 1:33:0490 a handful of seconds ahead of Dimitrios with a 1:39:1320 in his Peugeot 206 Gti

As always timing is only one part of the equation – remember the EPCC handicap system evens the playing field...so who won you ask?

Paul Flood claims the 1st place on the winner’s podium with total score of 20.8 points narrowly ahead of Joey and Ian in equal second place on 20.4 points a piece, with Nick rounding off the class on 20 points even...close indeed guys!

On to the Coupe class – where the two fastest competitors of the Go Pro Hero Oran Park GP reside – Jeff and Mark.

While Jeff hit the circuit to bed in his brakes in the first half of the day, Mark hit the circuit in full attack mode and after session one was the current ‘Circuit Breaker’ with a time in the 1 min 24 second range.

The BMW M3 Convertible of Michael put in a valiant charge for outright times also with Brendan in the dark house Saab 99 turbo not too far behind on 1:38:1940...don’t right Brendan off just yet, the handicap point system had him a heart beat behind Mark in this session.

In the second half of the day, and with the brakes up to par, Jeff made the charge to clamber back up the ladder after the first session and in the process setting the fastest time of the day 1:20:6750 with Mark less than a second behind.

Despite Jeff spanking out some seriously hot laps, Mark pushed just as hard to hang onto first place and secure his spot on the top of the podium with 11.6 points...just a fraction ahead of Jeff on 11.4.

Brendan was unable to better his best times from the morning sessions however kept the pedal to the metal to keep in front of the M3 on the points table...nice work Brendan especially in a car from 1978!

Add two more doors to the Coupe Class and what do you get – the Sedan Class where the circuit action was just as engaging with France, Brittan and Germany all vying for the title.

The fastest car of the category was obviously the Audi RS4, however, with 309kw and a PWR of less than 5.5 it was hard pressed on the points table against the VW Bora 4 Motion piloted by Marcus, the Peugeot 405 steered by Daniel and the XJ6 Jaguar wrestled to impressive times by Owen – especially considering the 1.8 plus tons of metal he had to move around.

Owen lead the charge in the first session with Marcus and Daniel only a few seconds off the beat, much to the amazement of crowd, however, as the day wore on it was Marcus who became quicker and quicker against the clock to climb his way back up the ladder and eventually to first place on 11.6 points and a best time of 1:32:7820.

Owen kept the forging ahead and for the rest of the day in an effort to kept the Daniel’s Peugeot in his revision mirrors to claim 11.2 points and a best time of 1:37:2830. Daniel didn’t take this lying down though and snuck in a 1:37:2250 to stamp his authority on the time board...next time Daniel, next time.

Now for the award, and the title most converted by anyone with octane in their veins – The Go Pro Hero Oran Park GP STIG – rewarding the best average time / PWR (also taking into account drive type, transmission, aspiration, No of cylinders, tyres, vehicle age, etc.). And the winner is...Nick in his mighty VW Golf Gti – that’s two in a row!

Nick better watch his mirrors though a Last year’s STIG, Paul flood, was only a fraction off (0.315 to be precise) and the Meguiar’s / Liqui Moly Wakefield Park Winter Sprint just around the corner – be there to see if nick can go three for three!

So what did all these people win? $100 credits on Go Pro Hero Motorsport Camera’s thanks to iautosport.com.au and Go Pro...not bad for a day’s worth of racing.

Greetings Motorsport Fans and welcome to the Penrite Oil SINsational Sprint Event Report.

It was a cold and windy morning that greeted track day fans on Saturday May 16th as queues began to form at the entry gates and at the scrutineering shed for what was set to be a great day of high speed motorsport action at Eastern Creek.

One of the events highlights was Jason Engleman’s Supercharged Alfa 147 GTA which looked every bit as fast standing still as it did on the circuit. Jason has been hampered this year with gremlins in the garage and unfortunately a radiator issue brought his day to an early close - he did get to set a warm up lap though which you can view online...he’ll be back!

The French charge established by Martin Bevz in the last round was this time led by Gew Ded in a Renault Megane 225 F1...much to the dismay of the small hot hatch contenders “165kw, light weight, LSD...those things are fast”.

Ian Cudmore (of Team Movember and Rennenhaus fame) finally able to get time off work since the Toyo Tyres Motorkhana, purred into the pits in the Team Rennenhaus VW R32 ready to stamp his authority as a leading contender in the Hot Hatch category...the question was could he keep ahead of Shacker’s and her BMW Mini Cooper S.

Shacker’s and Team Renenhaus were separted by 0.3 points at the last Toyo tyres round and with Shacker’s sporting some new light weight wheels and even stickier tyres all our eyes were on the clock...Shacker’s is not to be underestimated, as many competitors found out.

Rounding off the class was Nick Dojva in a showroom spec Goff Gti 5 Door. Don’t be too quick to skip to the next paragraph – he was all over the back of some of the Bavarian vehicles (which you can see on his footage) and captured some great footage with the chase cam.

So who won the category?

In equal 1st place are the two are the competitors which all of us were watching fight it out all day - Team Renenhaus and Shackers on 21 points!

Honourable mention goes to Najdov just 0.4 behind the leaders – the handicap system makes all these classes close. Jason Engleman scores 12 points for just being able to get to the circuit – after all the mechanical issues he has had this year he deserves it.

The Coupe class was were all the action was with pit garage after pit garage of M3’s, M coupes, M Roadsters, DTM replicas and all other things Bavarian with 2 doors...not to forget the scariest BMW Go Kart / what used to be a Z3 roadster / complete custom race machine I’ve ever seen.

So what was this race machine? It was a Z3 roadster before the roof was cut off and everything but the instrument cluster and steering wheel were removed (including the doors), then a whole host of performance parts were added (including an M3 motor) to create one truly unique track day machine – you’ll never see another one like it!

On the topic of unique – Arthur Scerri’s monster E36 328i Super Charged BMW...if Beethoven turned his skills to the aural delights of track day machines this would be his 9th symphony. The induction noise is the first thing that pulls you in as it inhales as much oxygen at a Euro Fighter jet turbine before releasing the pressure to the tune of someone knocking the head of a 9kg gas cylinder – its spine tinglingly euphoric and just screams POWER!

Leigh though had seen this all before and was quietly napping, snuggled comfortably inside his PRB Clubman cockpit, strapped in, helmet on and patiently waiting his turn to hit the circuit – and hit the circuit he did consistently placing in the outright top 5 despite having less than half the power of the other Big Boys Toys...definitely one competitor to watch.

Some other competitors to watch were (well you needed to or you would miss them with their lap times) were Nelson Da Silvia and Adam Laura who injected more than enough M3 white knuckle heat into the circuit. Adam unfortunately bowed out with gear box issues after the first heat leaving the circuit all to Nelson as he continued to set times no one else could match.

Nelson’s Brother Clinton, also won the Penrite SINsational Flag Marshal prize for volunteering on the day. If you want to really get up close to the action, being a marshal / volunteer on the day is the way to do it – and you could score yourself a prize too.

Some other cars in the Coupe Class to watch out for were Jeffrey Morton’s immaculate Autopia 135i and Mark’s Circuit spec 968. The Autopia 135i defiantly captures the eye and if you could pull yourself away from it to look at the timing board you would see it was neck snapping quick with Jeff behind the wheel. Jeffrey and Mark partnered up last year to take a clean sweep at the NSW Dutton Rally so are two competitors to always keep an eye on – they just make it look easy.

Mark’s Porsche though was the perfect balance of form and function and you could tell he dosen’t just drive to the corner shops for milk and a paper on Sunday with paint burnt off the Porsche factory callipers – never seen a Porsche driven that hard...ever! (and yes that does include the PR Tech meets)

The Peak Performance and Parramatta Prestige garages (not to mention half the car park behind them) provided a plethora of eye candy and both boasting some serious performance tuning which they more then backed up on the circuit – just like every tunning company should. Great work Guys and Girls.

So who stands atop the podium?

1st place on 49 points goes to Richard in his E36 M Coupe...without doubt bending the laws of physics to set the lap times he did.

2nd place on 45 points goes to the PRB Clubman star, Leigh Hemming’s...if it was not for the gale force headwind up the straight he would have had this round – next time Leigh.

Rounding off the class in 3rd is Jeff on 40 points in the Autopia 135i coupe with honourable mention going to Mark, just one point behind on 39 points in the Porsche 968 CS...close indeed.

To our shock the Sedan, and Avant Classes were both empty of Euro's on the day (plenty in the car park though).

There some easy prizes up for grabs people. Come on, grab the helmet, car keys, and driving shoes, then come to the circuit for what is without doubt the most accessible, most affordable and most prize packed motorsport series on the calendar this year!

to perfect his or her driving technique and still enjoy being very competitive.

Format will be groups of only 4 cars in 5 minute sessions.
Out lap one only
3 Perfect Laps
In lap

Target is minimum of 6 timed runs potentially 7 or 8 runs.
So the Winner will be the person that has timed laps closest to each other.

Car #1 example VOLVO
Lap 1 45.01 Lap 2 45.04 Lap 3 45.06 seconds

Car #2 example HOLDEN Ute
Lap 1 47.01 Lap 2 47.02 Lap 3 47.03 seconds

Of these two cars Car #2 will be deemed to have
completed the more perfect laps
as they were closest to each other.

Trophies will be awarded to the three most Perfect drivers.

I was out due to drive shaft issues and the numbers were down due the non public holiday Monday however was a really good day with a great mix of cars and drivers of all ages.

Hello European Motorsport Fans and welcome to the third event report of the European Performance Car Challenge.

With the mercury hovering just above 2 degrees at Wakefield Park in Goulburn (reaching a top of 8 all day only), it was hard work pulling yourself out of your car and off your heated leather seats to muster at the drivers briefing as the field began to assemble...will remember to pack a three layer race suit and gloves next time as my hands as still frozen.

The ‘Turbo’ crowd though was all smiles and so were the spectators faces with a line up of Euro metal set to set the track alight...even with the dark rain clouds menacing above threatening all but the quattro equipped cars.

Ian’s Spine tingling Mercedes Black was one of the first to enter the circuit with the howl of the supercharged V8 engine filling the valley and shaking the foundations of pit wall as he put pedal to the metal to stamping a 1:09.4480 despite scrambling for traction in the low temp conditions...hot lap footage available soon.

Joining Ian to roll first off the blocks was Leigh Hemmings in his silver top Clubman Birkin S3 and Nick Kalis also in a clubman were a treat to watch...they have understeer, oversteer and everything – and on almost every corner too! It takes a fine degree of skill and madness to pilot those little rockets and Leigh had plenty of both up his race suit sleeves’ cutting a 1:06.7140 ahead of Nick’s 1:08.9710 without exiting backwards from the circuit all day...footage also coming soon.

The Audi S4’s of Richard Steven’s and Ben ‘Cranky’ Hinton rolled out next with a mix of twin turbo V6 screams and Germanic V8 thunder filling the crisp air (with a hint of tyre squealing in there also). As ‘Cranky’ was the only Avant at the event he had an easy win from the get go and could have taken it easy all day...he didn’t though with wisps of brake smoke evident from the wheel wells after ever session. Steven’s S4 brakes were the same as the cold intake temps of the S4 V6 twin turbo kept him at full boost all day sling shotting between corners before diving hard on the brakes once more. ‘Cranky’ produced a 1:14.0230 best lap (behind his 1:13 PB) with Richard bringing a 1:15.5080 to the table – and at his first ever advanced driver training track day too! Keep an eye on Steven’s times s they will no doubt continue to fall in the coming months.

The Hot Hatch field was hot indeed with the Audi S3’s of well know track day attendees ‘Macca’ and ‘Timbo’ leading the charge with a 1:13.4310 and 1:14.6260 lap times respectively...just behind Massimo’s best of 1:13:3490 (also in an Audi S3) set last year at the Volkswagen Audi Group Motorsport series – the record may fall this year...stay tuned.

The French charge was left to Martin Bevz in his Renault Meganne 225 F1 Special which cut its way through the field all day...these turbo rockets really do excel in Goulburn with a 1:13.8260 best lap time to his credit – and this is his first ever event...fantastic work Martin! No really champ your less than half a second behind an all well drive (quattro) Audi S3!

The XR5 crowd must have been chained to the office desk (not that the VW guys missed them after the won all the points at the last event) leaving the circuit open for the VW R32’s of Darko with a 1:18.1540, and the father son team of Bill and Peter Szydlik, and as the heavens opened Peter Szydlik came into his own as Nissan Silvia’s, Mazda MX’s, Holden Commodore’s and basically everything else that is RWD left the circuit backwards, sideways and any other ways in front of him...nice work Pete! Bill did claim the top time between them though of 1:19.5490 due to Peter only seeing wet laps – keep any eye on Peter’s time in the future though.

Tim ‘DJ Hi Def’ Fung finally got behind the wheel of his VW Golf GTi at the end of the day to spank in a few hot laps (race footage coming soon) but didn’t secure a transponder leaving his lap times up in the air. Tim doesn’t need prizes anyway – ‘yo yo Dj HiDef races for the respect and lives his life one lap at a time’ commented one source...he looked as fast as always though. Seriously Tim nice to see you and the Circuit Club finally cut some laps instead of being behind the desk all day.

Honourable mention goes to Nick ‘low flying’ Strange who left his white lightning VW GTI in the pit garage to dust of his Toyota Celica ex production race car...(fun to watch) and Ian from Team Rennenhaus who organised to take the wrong day off work (Anzac Saturday instead of Monday)...it happens. Troy Datsan of VW R32 Team Movember fame also returned to the circuit in a Tarmac Special Mazda RX7 – everyone just seems to be buying JDM circuit specific vehicles these days.

Series Sponsor RDA has also stepped up the plate big time this year awarding $100 off the RRP on any RDA or EBC Brakes product for each of the six category winners and not only that, is giving every EPCC Wakefield Park competitor special discounted pricing on all RDA / EBC Brakes products also – how many motorsport series sponsors do that...thanks RDA!
