On the window sills of all 4 doors of my S90 the leather is wrinkled on on the front and rear of the sill.

Is this a design flaw or was the previous owner messing around?

Either way, can it be fixed fairly easily by taking the panel apart?

I just had the engine on my 98 V90 replaced. Now the radiator fan runs all the time, from the time I start the car till five minutes after I shut down the engine. My mechanic (general mechanic, not Volvo specialized) checked the connectors at the fan relay, and they where OK and seated good. Could have the relay been damage during the tear down and / or rebuild? How robust are these relays? How could I check to ensure that all the wires went back where they belong?

I just replaced the engine in my 1998 S90 with one from another 1998 S90. I was told that the engine had 75K miles when it was pulled from the previous S90. I see a bit of talk on the value of Mobil 1 on ensuring the longevity of engines, but it is worth starting on an engine with 75K miles? I don't know the history of this engine, so I must assume that only standard oil was used. I plan to keep this car, so ensuring that I get as many or more miles on this engine as I got on my previous engine is important. Thanks

My sunroof will open at the rear to "vent", bit will not slide back to open fully....only about 1/2 inch.
I have found posts on where to purchase the plastic guide/gates.
I've looked around a bit here and can't find what I want.....Can someone direct me to a posting on how to replace these parts?

When my S90 was first driven this morning the transmission stuck in 1st. I stopped the car and switched off, then started again and the transmission shifted OK. Any idea what could have caused this? I check the transmission fluid regularly. Thanks for any ideas.

AutoZone told me the check engine light code was for a faulty engine temperature sensor. They do not carry this item. Is this the same sensor located under the thermostat? The temperature gauge on the dash stays in the middle, it never moves. What can happen if I continue to drive the vehicle? Car has ~98,000 miles.

i bought a used 1998 s90 volvo and the car didnt come with an owners manual.

this red light keeps appearing and disappearing...it looks like a red box with a fan inside and squiggly water lines under it...i dont have time right now to take it anywhere to get fixed but i would just like to know how serious this could be.

Will a 94 960 rear wing bolt up to a 98 S90? Just picked up the S90 and I am really impressed to say the least. The turning circle is so tight on these cars. Thanks for the help.

I read some other threads with similiar problems, but not exactly like mine. I am hoping someone can clear this up for me. I have the left turn signal light in the dash staying on at all times. Same with the turn signal in the rear drivers side taillight. Neither the right or left signals flash when using the turn lever. The hazard lights will not work if the car is running, but when turned off, they will flash normally. The red light on the hazard also illuminates when the turn signal is used. The car is a 1998 S90.

Any help anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Someone cut off the Catalytic Converter from my 1997 S90. I absolutely cannot afford to pay someone to install another one. However, I bought one from a guy who was parting out his Volvo. I need to find the schematics for the Catalytic Converter & the 2 Oxygen Sensors. Are there any websites that might have diagrams of it?

First of all, I am happy to have been registered in this forum.

My 1998 S90 has now recorded 90,000 km.....

Got problem with the Aircond lately, compressor not working, sometimes when the aircond switch is turned on, then the electrical cooling fan works at the second speed (high speed) the compressor would not turn on.....

Have changed the cooling fan relay, problem still exist.

Please help

Driving home last night, put on right turn signal. The Green Signal indicator arrow on the gauge cluster stayed on, illuminated green, not blinking.

Turned off car when I got home, and restarted, Right Arrow was still Illuminated Green and not flashing.

Any idea what this means? Does this mean that one of my right blinker bulbs is burned out on the Passenger side of the car?

Neither directional signal will work right now.

Maybe it's a blinker switch located in the electrical boxes under the hood?

Please inform me where to locate the Temp Sensor and Thermostat in my 98 S90.
My check engine light came on and my fan was staying on for about 15 minutes after driving the car only a short distance--2 miles. The code said faulty Coolant Temperature Sensor. The temp guage in the car never even went up to half way.
So, do I replace both the sensor and the thermostat? Or just one to see if the problem goes away. Also, does anyone recommend where to buy these parts besides autozone? Any quick instructions on how to replace---I know, drain coolant and undo negative batter cable, but any other order of operation---thanks, just when all my warning lights were off for weeks, now this!!!!! This car does start to drain my patience and in the current economy, I have to DIY!!

i need the instruction of how to reset the radio code for S90 1997 after changing the battery.

I'm having the same problem sverigecar wrote about on 12/20/07. After replaceing the battery, the car won't start, but the alarm sounds with the four way flashers flashing. I had to disconnect the battery to shut the thing down. How do you reset the system?

Hey guys - first post here. Helping a buddy diagnose his 97 S90. Hes away at school with no tools and limited ability to work on the car.

Hes thrown a CEL P0340 - Cam Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction. Anyone have any ideas here? Hes cleared the code and it reappears almost instantly, and acts like the motor has a rev limiter about 3k rpms.

Besides replacing the CPS, any ideas? Anyone know where the CPS is located on these motors? Thanks

Greetings. I'm starting to look for a V90/960 wagon. Wikipedia says that they made this vehicle with a manual transmission. I haven't seen a manual for sale and am thinking that they might not have brought manuals to the US. I once converted a 1972 1800 from automatic to manual, but there were donor cars available that that had the pedals and cable. Any one know if a V90/960 is convertible to manual transmission?

Have a problem with my 97 V90. When engine accelerates or when climbing a hill, the A/C blower basically stops. When the engine 'stress' is over, the blower resumes as normal. Any ideas?

I have both clear plastic lenses over the reversing lights serviceable but cracked and wanted to get replacements. My local dealership where not too helpful saying that they didn't have any for that model and could not get any in for me. Apparently the V90 was only built for two years so presumably Volvo do not stock many parts for them?
The lenses seem to just clip into place and should be easy to fit.
Can any one advise me please -

Can I get individual lenses or do I have to have a complete light cluster replacement?

Where can I get them?

Is the fitting the same as for the 960 series (in which case I should be able to get parts).
Any advice welcome.

First post here...kinda long so bear with me.

I have a 98 S90 with a recurring coolant problem. The car right now has ~160k miles and I have maintained it exclusively for the past 4 years or so (wifes car and her dad took care of it before that.) It has never had any real issues until now.

The radiator cracked where the upper radiator hose connects so I replaced it about 8 months ago. Everything was fine for 1 week after that then, for those that know the S90 (or maybe other volvo's have this too, I don't know) the little plug in the top right corner of the radiator popped out while driving, shooting all of the coolant out. I checked for obstructions and found that the thermostat had broken up so I replaced that. Filled everything back up, put the plug back in and everything was good until last week (so about 7 months.) The new radiator developed a small leak. Then the plug popped out again and again I lost all coolant. I checked the thermostat again but it was fine. I replaced the radiator again since it had a crack and it has a lifetime warranty. Filled everything up, put that plug back in and all was well until yesterday when that damn plug popped out again.

It's like pressure is building up on one side and follows the path of least resistance blowing that plug out.

So, the system has been opened up twice for radiator replacements and the thermostat has been replaced once yet this stupid plug keeps popping out. Has anyone ever had this happen? What could cause pressure to build up like that? Is there any special procedure for "burping" the coolant system of air that I am missing? Could something like a failed water pump be causing a blockage?

I have not long bought my car and decided to do an ATF flush 3 week ago as the fluid looked really dark although it was shifting smooth enough. I bought 12 litres which was all i could afford at the time and anyway i thought it would be enough. By the time i had flushed the 12 litres through the fluid was pink with a slight brown tinge. This was ok as i thought mostly new ATF is better than all old, and i could do it again when i had some more money. Gears still shift smooth enough same as before but i looked at the fluid today and its gone really brown again.( It don't smell burnt) Any ideas why? In the 3 weeks since i flushed it i have only done 100 perhaps 200 miles at the most. The car has only done 64000. Any help from anyone is greatly appreciated

S90 is running well, and there is no indication that anything is wrong.

Does anyone know how to change the in-dash outside temperature display from reading Celsius to Fahrenheit? I've looked all through the owner's manual, but the only thing I can find is the page that identifies what it is, not how to work it. Any ideas?

The driver's side heated seat does not function on my Volvo V90 Estate. A local Volvo dealer diagnosed that the fault was due to a defective electrical component beneath the seat. A green rectangular box 'Valeo Made in France - Volvo 3523890-12V.

I think this might just be a sensor?

The part has been on order for three months during winter and no sign of a replacement yet! Can anyone advise me please if it is possible just to bypass this component so that the heater switch just turns on the seater heat, irrespective of the ambient temperature?

I am debating whether to buy a 960 / S90 to replace my old warhorse a 240 but I keep hearing alarming stories of blown head gaskets on the DOHC engines, is there any truth in these allegations, or am I being a bit of coward in not taking the plunge.

There are a couple small things I want to fix and I wonder if anyone has any suggestions. I own a 1998 S90 white volvo, tan leather interior, moon roof, cd player, burlwood, etc. The chrome that is around the windows isn't as shiny... Is there a good product I can use on it to shine it up and bring out the shine rather than cloudy it up?

Also, the interior light box in the middle of the car's roof has dropped, and hangs down a little bit. What can I do to get it back in place?

I don't know how to describe this, but where there is a lining around the back passenger seats near the door opening, that fabric part that connects to the roof has come loose (I think from sitting out in the heat)... What can I do to fix that?

And, lastly... The light inside my console isn't working. I could get my car guy to fix it, but if I could I'd just rather fix it myself. Anyone done this before?

So I am the proud owner of a beautiful 1998 s90.

The only problem is that it needs a new transmission according to the dealership.

They said they could replace it for 3200$ I found another place that would install a used transmission from a parts car that only had 60k miles on it. It has a 3 months parts warranty installed for 1800$

The other option is to sell the car for 1500$ to the dealership who apparently want to buy it for a project car. The hard part is I put about 2000$ into the car recently and I don't drive it. I live overseas and I am home for the holidays.

I really love the car and was hoping to slowly build it up while I'm away. It has 90k miles on it and is in excellent, although it needs a new switch or motor for the drivr's side window. Also, a piece of the sunroof track has busted off and now prevents the sunroof from sliding all the way open. Oh yeah, and the can didn't pass emissions because all the obdII sensors need to reset because the car wasn't driven for so long. I'm just afraid if I drop the 2 or 3 grand, I'm gonna have a bunch of other issues too. Meanwhile, I have no plans to return back to the states for a few years, other than some road trips and vacations.

What are people's thoughts on this situation?

I have a 1998 v90 with a trashed remote. I wonder if anyone out there can tell me if I can use any of the remotes for say a 1998,99,00 v70, s70 ? I can find lots of used and aftermarket remotes for these cars but there is rarely on listed for a v90. The only ones I have found that are the right thing are +/- $100, which is redicluos for $2.50 worth of battery, circuit board and plastic.

The A/C compressor stops running while driving when the outside temperature is warm. The signal lead to the compressor has 12 volts. The clutch is controlled by a second lead from the compressor. What sensor is controlling the clutch lead so that the compressor doesn't run when it should?

Definition: ECT (Engine Coolant Temp) Circuit

Explanation: The Engine Coolant Temperature Signal is used for various systems in the vehicle.

Probable Causes: Check Connector and Wiring. Sensor open or shorted... replace sensor.

Now, I've EBAY'ed me a service manual, and I have got absolutely NO idea where this sensor is in engine compartment. Can anyone post a picture of their compartment with a pointer pointing right at it?

I had a Harley last year, and almost always most problems were tracable to something rattling loose, so if I just gotta tighten something or clean some contacts, just point me in the right direction.

I guess this may be a dumb question, but my battery died and I bought a new one, brought it back home, installed it and now the car alarm is going off and the emergency blinkers are on and the car will NOT start. I do not know how to reset anything as this is the first time this has happened. I have a 98 S90. Please help soon. Thanks.

Hello I recently bought a 1998 S90 and had a question about my sunroof.
I've seen posts about the plastic tracks in the sunroofs of S90s breaking easily... well I was wondering if this could be my problem.

Is my sunroof just supposed to prop open, Or should it slide back as well? Mine doesn't slide back and my boyfriend doesn't think it is supposed to. But i can tell that the track is broken, it's missing lots of plastic.

Whats the deal?
