my 1997 850 rear, left brake light does not work. I have replaced bulbs, even replaced with the working bulb on right side. It does work as a turn signal (dual purpose bulb?). What is the problem.....?

It happened again last weekend. In the previous times that it happened, I brushed it aside thinking that it's probably coz the car is almost 10 years old and thus, prolly some of the wiring and contacts are not so great.

My low beam lamp burned out, so I thought this would be simple to replace. On inspection, I found the connector charred, so I bought a new one in addition to the lamp. Every time I tried to strip the insulation off of the exiting wire, it was so brittle, I cut right through the wire. What's the best way to make a connection into an existing wiring harness? (I'm new at this.)

I have an 850 turbo wagon and the rear hatch is a real pain in the rear to close. We have to slam it so hard the car locks itself. I have tried adjusting both sides of the latch (the hatch side and the car side) and have not solved the problem. The latch will catch but will not go to the next position, which is sealed and secured. Any help would be appreciated.

i am about to become a private car owner after many years after numerous company cars. No matter what i look at i keep coming back to the early 850 (circa 93-95), would like newer but the bugit is tight.

Most cars advertised have between 90k and 130 k miles on the clock, but worryingly anything with say 160+ on the clock is claiming major money spent on it...

I drive a 97 850 GLT with 115K miles. Everytime I run it relatively hard, I can smell and sometimes see smoke coming from the engine compartment. It doesn't last too long, but the smell of burning oil is really strong (i think its burning oil). When it does this, I check and there are always dark stains surrounding the oil cap. Is it possible that my oil cap may not be sealing completley...

I have a 1994-850 Turbo and the lamda light lights up after a fews days, when the car comes back from service. The mechanic says it is because of the anti-knock sensor and somtimes due to the oxygen sensor. Apparently it does not affect the performance of the car, and it appears it does not.

Would any one know how to reset the lamda light? if the antiknock is not that important would...

my 96 850 is drawing power. checked the battery, alternator and everything is fine. 4 ohms is the draw is it is little, however, it still draws enough power to kill the battery. hell a couple days and there isnt no power to start the car no lights come on when in the on possition for the key.....

suspect maybe could be the key system due to the fact that it still chims when key isnt in...

When engine is cold I must turn the starter about 3-5 sec, and the engine starts.
But when the engine is hot (normal temperature) is very diferent:

I have a check engine warning. Codes suggesting camshaft sensor fault. I checket the sensor. Seemed ok. Timing belt ok. Any suggestions?
Do i need to replace the sensor? How de i reset the system?
It is a 850 estate GLE 2.5 10 valve 1994.

Hey i just bought a 94 volvo 850 turbo from my step mother.. REALLY Cheap
it has about 150,000 miles on it. I am pulling the turbo out next week to reseal it becaust its pissing oil. There has been a couple times where my step mom didnt check her oil and was down 3 quarts. The engine is quiet as can be and runs great. IT JUST PISSES OIL....

A friend went back to Switz and I managed to ask her to get me a copy of Haynes and Chilton. (They are not easily available from bookstores here, and have to fork out almost for the same price of the manuals to have it shipped via Amazon.)

Parked last night and everything is fine, rained all night and it was chilly too, get up this morning, car won't start. Engine turns fine. All electrical seems to be fine as well, I am guessing there is gasoline reaching the plugs.

I think it cannot be the fuel pump, since it is in the gas tank. Could be the filter? would that stop the car from starting?.

Any ideas would...

How hard is it to replace front strut mounts,? Can I do it without a spring compresser? Can I just jack up the car?

I've had a secondhand automatic gearbox fitted when i picked it up from the garage they told me there was a small oil leak.
Which on further investigation found it was coming from the inner cv joint.
I bought a new oil seal and a secondhand axle put it altogether and it still appears to be leaking.

I drive a 97 850 GLT and recently made a 200 mile trip in it where I was crusing at about 90-95 mph. Since then, the service engine light has come on every time I start the car, but goes away after I drive for about 5 minutes. Anybody have any ideas on what might be causing this annoying little problem? Thanks for the help.

Just purchased a 1995 850 GLT Wagon with 75k miles.
The SRS warining light is luminated.
Does this warning light come on after the recommended 10 year inspection/replacement time? Or is there something else to consider?

Can I disable the airbag system? If so, can it be selective (i.e. the front passenger seat only)

the car is great overall and carried me around the us quite comfortably....
however, there is a ticking coming from the head and a slight oil leak,,,
also i must refill the coolant about every two weeks....
also the heater doesnt stay warm once we take off, and the temp gauge drops to the line and the heater is luke...

Perhaps I'm being paranoid but, it seems a lot of people have problems with the 850 aircon evaporator which I understand is an expensive item to have replaced. Is it possible if the evaporator packs up, while I save up enough money, to have it replaced, to have the aircon system degassed and to either remove the compressor or leave it out of the system by using a shorter...

I was looking into the purchase of a 94 850 turbo wagon and was curious as to the overall reliability of these cars. It has 140k on it. What besides timing belt and transmission issues should I be looking for. What should I be looking for when it comes to the trans and timing belt? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

What is the procedure for replacing the passenger side headlight wiper motor on my 96 850 turbo. That motor is buried down under so much stuff that I can't see how to get it out. Even removing the headlight doesn't give proper access! Do you have to remove both headlights and the entire pastic front framework to get at it?

have 1995 850 t5r, and experience wind noise (low pitched drone) at 80km/hr and above. Seems to be worse when there is a side wind. Sounds like coming from around door seals or sunroof seals.
