hi i own a 740 and have owned a 740t both great cars. i am thibking of getting a 95' 850T and am wondering if power is better, milage, ease of maintenence, i am a mech and feel the 740 is a breeze to work on, with the turbo a little tough but all around no big deal. i just don't want to get into something that will suck...thanks for the help...dan

I recently replaced the battery in my 97 850T-5. I have the four digit radio code but do not no how to reset the engine's computer. My understanding is that I should turn the key one click and allow it to sit for approximately two hours. Then turn the radio on, see the CODE message and punch in the code. My radio only says OFF. I look forward to hearing from someone.

I am having trouble with 10year old 850 estate boiling over - I've drained it and filled it as per Haynes Instruction manual to no avail. It'll do 50 -80 miles with the guage bang on the middle then suddenly the temp will go up and start blasting steam/water out of the expansion cap. I have a 96 850 GLT wagon. The radio circuit (fuse 7) has a 1 to 2 amp current draw all the time that kills the battery is the fuse is left in. I removed the radio/tape unit and the current draw is still there. I have had several shops look at it a give up. Does this car have a separate amplifier hidden somewhere? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Can you tell me what sort of job it is to fit clutch in 850 2.5 10valve.

Had trouble starting the car unless I shook the gear selector. Changed out switch which didn't seem to fit quite the same way as the old one - seem a bit thicker. Had to snip and solder the wires too...what a pain. Now the car won't come out of park unless I depress the shift override lock button.
What went wrong??

I just bought this car and I am searching for maintenance info.

I've been reading that 3Kmiles oil changes are standard. IMO that's way too frequent for synthetic 5W30 or 10W30.

Can somebody help me?

does anyone know how to replace the heater core on 93 850, with ECC.
haynes manual talks about MCC heater core replacement only.
i've been trying to replace the heater motor n core. i successfully replaced the heater motor, but just couldn't find directions to replace the heater core.

I have a 94 850Turbo and the check engine code indicates a bad signal from the knock sensor. I know their is an upgraded knock sensor for this car and the job involves removing the intake manifold. Where can I get instructions as to how to remove the intake manifold. I am sure I can do this job with a little direction.

I am trying to get a hold of one of these wheel. I just bought a 94 850, but it won't pass inspection until I replace the cracked wheel. It seems none of my local yards has one of these and the ebay prices are a little over the top. So if anyone in the NorthEast has a spare and is willing to part please let me know.

A few days ago I noticed my driver's door wouldn't stay in it's opened position. I checked the hinges to see that the check strap (as Haynes calls it) was neatly sheared off at its base (the bit that is fixed to the car body itself).

The bad thing is that the base plate which it was fixed to is welded and not bolted to the car, so fixing that...

Hi all! Just bought a used 93 80 GLT. Love the car in all ways except one: the "shiftlock" button next to the automatic gearshift is sticking pretty bad. Most of the time I have to press it down to move the shift-lever from Park to Drive. Then when I go to shut the car off, the button sometimes stays stuck down, and I cannot remove the key.

1993 Volvo 850. Car just decided not to start any more. It was running great then all of the sudden it just won't start. Did a bunch of checking and find that the fuel pump doesn't seem to be working. Removed the fuel filter and turned the ignition, no fuel comes out of the open line. With key in the 2 position I do hear a little whirring noise in the engine compartment.

I've attached a PDF of a spreadsheet showing our fuel savings since the end of November 2005. We had LPG installed into our 1995 2.5 10v 850 Estate. It makes interesting reading. Even adjusting for the 10% loss in efficiency we have saved almost £430 already!

The spreadsheet shows the cost of LPG and how much the petrol would have cost at the same time.
